i love the way she answer to the question "can we eat" with a simple "it's ready"...as if she didn't want to
force nobody to eat. Not a yes or no....just "it's ready"

not quite like it, I think...it's more like since they are ready the only thing to do is to eat them, like she's answering a rethorical question...she even shrugs her shoulders, as to say "what are you going to do otherwise? they are ready! cmon! si mangia !!! " :D

This one is the "ALL ANCIENT" video, and ALL functions perfectly! What a pretty face she has. Love that antique scale hanging behind her. Reminded me of when we were kids we used to buy fresh chickpeas from street vendors; sold in bunches for us to pop the pods and enjoy. It was decades ago on a different continent! The chickpea liquid and the home made thick olive oil will make the dish very creamy and delicious. Growing up on chestnuts, chickpeas, olive oil and everything made right there will add healthy years to your life. Please have more videos like this. Thanks Vicky and team. :)

@@pastagrannies Thank you Vicky. Unfortunately I don't. Both my grannies have passed decades ago, and were not Italians. Although I come from a different background, very lucky to have three (plus the ones that influenced us later) very ancient cultures in us, we have lots in common with Italy and the Italians. From the ingredients, the climate, the sea, lifestyle and many traditions...things they took from us and vice versa ! That's why I enjoy your videos so much. If you haven't tried yet, you could probably inquire with the local mayors to lead you to their precious grannies :) Good luck.

@@souadghazal2533 yes, we ask the local mayor, the organisers of food festivals and so on. I was intrigued by your grandmothers because I thought they would not be Italian. I recently was sent a clip of a lovely 94 year old from Libya making a pasta dish called rishda. I had incorrectly assumed pasta was a result of the Italian occupation, but was told pasta making is a several century old tradition in North Africa. Now I want to visit! 😀 best wishes, Vicky

I need to get back to my roots and eat like this again. My youthful foundation has kept me in good health up into my 60s. So far none of the crazy diseases that seem to happen to everybody at my age. What I do eat everyday is food cooked in olive oil, spiced coffee with cinnamon and cloves, cold tea of ginger and cinnamon. My husband likes some of what I cook, he tries.

I made it again with some dried fava beans this week and it was equally good. Think you could make a version with any beans you have though the texture of the chickpeas against the soft pasta is really nice so I can see why its a traditional favourite.

Ms. Vicky, what a great recipe & Angelina is a great, beautiful pasta granny. I like the size, freshness, texture of the pasta. In our Appalchian area they also call chick peas garbanzo beans or ci ci beans. Hard to find them dry/uncooked, the best canned brand i have found are " Goya",( a tip for subs/viewers) they are very good. We also make a product called " Hummus" which is the beans ground into a paste in a blender or food processor with just a little olive oil, s&p, garlic, spread it on wheat crackers or whatever you like, it is delicious. God bless you & all the pasta grannies/subs & viewers & everyone please stay safe. btw, pray that this new covid vaccine developed here in the U.S. works, as it will be shipped worldwide.

Better if you can find good quality dried chickpeas to soak and cook and never discard the liquid! It can even be used in some desserts. Hummus : Cooked garbanzo, mashed garlic, TAHINI, lemon juice, salt. And for a smoother hummus if you have the patience, remove the outer skin when cooked. Everything else like paprika, olive oil, chili flakes is used as garnish. Many different delicious dishes you can make with garbanzo, not just hummus.

I'm so curious about this recipe because it combines unsuspecting ingredients but it still looks so appealing and I love that it's so easy to make. I will attempt it with cake flour as I'm in south Africa and have no access to the type of flour she uses

Lagane (or laine) is actually one of the most ancient types of pasta. Its origins go back to Ancient Greece (and came to Ancient Rome shortly thereafter), where it was used in wide sheets to make baked dishes. Its name is also the origin of the word "lasagna". Laine e ciceri was one of the staple dishes of my beloved grandma from the south of Italy :)

Thank you for sharing this bit of pasta history. I understand there was an Ancient Greek settlement near Novi Velia (I hope I got that right) and indeed all over southern Italy, which would account for the use of the word even if pasta as we understand it today took another few centuries. 😊🌺 best wishes, Vicky
