I love that he starts this movie saying this was cheap! Lol. This setup he shows could be almost $10k once you've added drives to the zappiti Nas! I'll stick to plex on my diy server with a lot more features.
Thanks for showing this. I recently discovered the convenience of using the digital codes for downloading some of my granddaughter's favorite movies onto an iPad for a road trip we took to see family over the holidays. I will definitely look into this product to back up my movie collection and create a media library, Per your request my physical disc collection is as follows: total discs: 845 DVD discs: 172 Blu-Rays: 513 4k Blu-Rays: 160
This is a dream come true set up! I've been ripping Blu Rays for years. This could have saved me a tone of time. I only have 130 movies that I'm thinking of getting the 4k version to all of them. So this will save me month and month if i but this. Thank you so much my friend!
Good review and I appreciate you going through it in detail. The Zappiti is a solution for those who have some money to burn, I have always found this player to be very expensive. I'm using alternatives that do the same at a fraction of the cost by using a computer. the Zappiti is a good alternative for those looking for an easier solution.
@@LifeofBliss definitely looks it. You didn't even have to press any buttons to make it start? Does the software know whether to put the data in the movies or the tv shows folder on its own?
Literally just put the disk in just like in the video lol. Now tv shows... I think there's something with TV shows that doesn't transfer properly. I need to clarify with zappiti (and will be in the final video covering more of the interface and usability) but you either have to rip it then separate the files with each episode, or you have to use a separate drive with your computer to rip it, name them correctly, then transfer to the NAS. I'll find out, but its a different process than movies
@@LifeofBliss Great review! I've had Zappiti players for a few years (with a Thecus NAS) and very happy with them and the great interface, but have always found issues with the indexing/ordering of TV shows. I generally use the Zappiti Explorer app instead of Zappiti Video for watching TV shows to guarantee the episode order will be correct that way - it's easier seeing the file names than a thumbnail. If you find a better way I'd love to hear it
The Zappiti ripping version is $5700 where I live and is way out of my price range. I could buy like 350 4K UHD blu-rays for that price. In terms of my collections it is so large that I have to pack close to 7000 optical discs away. On display in my man cave I have roughly 250 4K UHD Blu-rays, 1800 blu-rays (including 3D blu-rays) and about 4500 DVDs (including TV series)
sweet review and preciate you going thru the set up on the zappiti , WD rp4100 my cloud nas 4 10tb wd red harddrives bout 2000 movies so far n counting
Great video!!!! I own a little over 500 blu-ray movie disc’s and over a 100 4K movie disc’s . I purchased a Zappiti player a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it!!!
How many movies do you have in your collection?? Let me know! And check out Zappiti products in their store and on Amazon! 🔥bit.ly/ZappitiHome 🔥 Amazon amzn.to/34KYXMN 🔥
600 discs and 2300 digital movies on VUDU. I only buy physical discs for movies whose rewatchability and audio/video quality earned a coveted Jonesy recommendation 😅🤣😂
I am at 221 Blu-Ray. 72 of which are 4k. Add in another hundred or so of DVD. What are your thoughts of video/audio quality of the Zappiti vs the use of Vudu, etc.?
Nice! I need to get some more this next year... umm zappiti vs vudu... I personally haven't noticed too much of a difference sound wise, but I would need to go back and compare a/b. Video wise, I feel i can see a difference in streaming vs physical. Zappiti is straight bit for bit from the disk, so its the same as using the disk itself. Streaming I always feel like the blacks have some sort of weird color grading going on. Theres definitely compression happening that makes colors and picture less sharp
Very informative video. I also have created backups of all my movies. I have 3 USB connected external drives that I plug into a hub, which is then connected to the USB port on my Router. This gives me the ability to stream my videos to any device in my home. It has worked flawlessly for a couple years now. Cost for the drives 180 dollars for an 10 TB, and 120 dollars each for the two 4 TB drives. I have a cataloging program that tells me what and where the movies are located. I store all my older movies, pre-blueray, to a dedicated file server, which has a "hot-swappable" cages. I didn't spend any where near what you did, and I have a system that works very well. This is a poor man's solution to the expensive NAS systems.
This is great! This def beats the build your own NAS and use standalone Blu ray player for ripping! Although, my NAS isn't currently very accessible for ripping, so that could be a problem. Are these files stored as ISO? Also, is there remote access to the collection?
They are ISO files, so all the menus, special features, languages, etc are there. Unfortunately no remote access outside of the home network as far as I know. I can play files on my computer or other zappiti players in my home, but not on my phone or elsewhere.
As convenient as having an optical drive attached to the nas may be nothing beats setting up a download queue. Just make sure you have your original copy and a reliable source.
@Life of Bliss : Amazing matey cheers for the post. It is very hard to find a good full Zappiti review. I became a fan of yours and I just subscribed to your channel. Good luck and keep up your good work. Cheers again.
Looks like a nice product. Is it able to do video playlists so one can load custom trailers/ads/etc. prior to the feature with no on screen displays/graphics like a real commercial cinema?
I have had the Zappiti 4K Pro HDR for 9 months now. My biggest issue, from many, has been the inability to succeed in copying properly working ISO’s from BR movies such as La La Land, Incredibles 2, Mad Max Fury Road, Creed 2 etc. They all show digital artifacts and skipping. Also, i have to plug my Zappiti directly into my projector because the signal isn’t going through my receiver (an older Pioneer Elite SC-87 (and i have turned off the HDR on the Zappiti)). I never had issues from any other equipment. Still trying to resolve those issues with no resources available. Decided to give up and go back to using my discs with my beloved Panasonic UB9000.
Good video! I'm thinking about switching to a NAS. You asked what we use for our collections so here goes: We have 2 Sony 995 400 disc DVD changers (with the new menu and HD upconversion), and 2 Sony 400 disc Bluray changers (a 960 and a 7000) that can hold a total of 1600 discs (about 70% full). We spent 4 days sorting the contents (after it evolved into a mess) and came up with this: DVD player 1 has childrens (animated, Christmas, etc.), DVD player 2 has films and series up to year 1980 (B&W, westerns, comedies, etc.), Bluray player 3 has from 1980 on (good movies like yours), and Bluray player 4 has the latest and hottest stuff (Bond, Star Wars, etc.). Player 3 does double duty adding new, but pre-Bluray films with their newer Bluray counterparts (Die Hard, etc.). Sony has 3 sets of IR codes per style, so a total of 6 players COULD be used and still be controlled independently. I also have a Word document with a multi-column table for a list of all titles in their respective players and slots. So, I just ask my Mrs. "What genre, black & white, western, mystery, comedy, etc.?" (to focus our choices) Then, go from there.
Oh, the players let me sort alphabetically as well. So all of my "Die Hard" films etc. are grouped together. But, I must pay STRICT attention to capitalization, spelling, numbers (example: Star Trek 10 gets alphabetized before Star Trek 1, so I need to number them 01, 02, etc.) - it's crazy.
Seems like a very nice product. I have been wanting a device I can hook up to a TV and play my ripped DVD's. I am looking forward to the next review. I think to start I'd be interested in the Mini to play in an RV while traveling or even a hotel room. I prefer watching movies on a TV rather than a Laptop or iPhone. I usually bring my Apple TV to hotels. Thanks again for the video and thanks to Zappiti for getting you the gear to review.
Yea the mini with a high capacity SD card or HDD you bring would work great for traveling. Theres an offline mode that allows all of the thumbnails and music to be downloaded as well, so the experience would be the same if there was no internet connection
Appreciate it bud 🤜🤛 i honestly had no idea what you were talking about... had to go back and watch for a screwdriver in the video 😂 didn't notice it when I was editing!
I like the NAS but the drive that backs up the disks does a whole disk backup, I like to save space and just back up the movie only so when I play it only the movie launces ever time.. You save space on your NAS by not having the previews and menu saved. For those not technically inclined the whole disk back up is nice, BUT when your trying to squeeze every bit of space for your collection, and mine is big, I would rather only store the main movie on my NAS drives.
Great video Kyle! Loved the intro 😉 And those new Valencia Oslos are looking pretty comfy!! Looking forward to a review! The Zappiti looks like a really cool option for ripping movies - the convenience factor is definitely worth a lot. We've probably got around 400 physical movies in our collection so having a backup solution is awesome!
It is easier and cheaper to just connect a large hard drive loaded with your digital version of movies to your router/modem all of which has a USB port. Then using the apps of the router/modem share it to all those units connected to the modem including cellphones, tablets and Android/Smart TV. And use something like VLC to play them. Simple, no expensive NAS needed. Always reset router/modem when disconnecting the hard drive and adding or removing movies.
My brother in-law travels with his family for work in a Prevost bus home. I am thinking one of these players might be a good fit, but his internet can be spotty sometimes. After the metadata download and such would the Zappiti players need the network?
Yes, you can download the pictures and background music for all of the movies to use offline if you wanted to use the Video App with the movie wall. But, what I would probably do, is just skip that and use the explorer app. You'll just go into what looks like a folder list and pick the movie from there. No pics, but easier than downloaded everything for offline use when he's on the road
IF I am starting from he begining...only going to use for a dedicated home cinema room. What all products to you recommend? I still need to by something to rip a 4k movie? how much do I need to budget for?
There's 2 ways to go about it with the zappiti system. You can either use a separate NAS from another company (synology is compatible with zappiti as far as I know) and connect a player up to your network to run your movies off of. You need to have a computer and 4k drive, as well as the programs to rip the disks which you usually have to pay for. The 4k drive will need to have a previous firmware installed to it to be able to rip the movies to get past the copywrite protection. I've done a little research on that route, but not too extensive. Thats the basics though. Cheaper, but you'll need to do your homework on how to do it properly and set up your own NAS. The easier way would be to buy a Zappiti NAS. Costs more, but its completely plug and play. You add the hard drives, they remotely set it up in whatever raid configuration you want, then you open the tray, add the disk, and it does its thing. Super easy. You'll need a player for playback, in which I'd recommend waiting until December to buy, as they are coming out with new players next month. They are similar to the pro4k player they have now. I wouldn't do the mini for a dedicated room imo. Again, super easy, no knowledge of how to program or set up anything this way. But, itll cost you more. $3500 for the NAS, $1000+ for the player, then you need to buy hard drives... so it'll be an expensive venture. But it's so nice having a digital library of everything
There is an offline mode that will download your movie thumbnails and info, but generally you'll want it connected to the internet for new rips and updates
I ain't going to lie to you I had to pause the video and had to comment man you had me crying laughing on that ass print on on the chair man you had me crying laughing now I'm fixing to go and get to watch the rest of this video I needed that laugh really bad
Yea the NAS is pretty pricey, but there are ways to setup your own NAS with it as well. I'll be going over other options next video. Warranty is 2 years for all players I think, maybe just 1 for the NAS along with their premium support for 1 year. Allows you to add storage for them to set up or have them remotely troubleshoot any issues for free. Looks like all parts and labor are covered but shipping is on you
Man these are expensive for theater addicts. A qnap or synology + Apple TV / shield / Roku stick with plex does all of this and support Dolby vision / atmos
Hey mate what if you wanna copy a 4k disc but the extra behind the scene disc is on a separate bluray, can you combine the two in a same folder on the zappiti nas? Or like the lord of the rings extended edition which are in two different discs for each moviw
You should be able to combine them. You would need to make a "group" and then add both the 4k movie and the extras disk into that group. You can customize the cover photo to still match the movie and everything too for the group pic. I'm actually going to make a video on making demo clips and grouping them in the NAS so you can have your own "demo disk" type setup. It would be the same idea, just grouping whatever items you wanted in 1 folder
Great video Kyle, you touched on all the important info. For me, getting up to change the discs is the only exercise I get, better stick to discs for now ;P!
Psh... after I got Covid and we started getting things in line after selling the house, I'm lucky to make it 3x a week. Which is still nice, I'll admit. But not my normal 6+ days a week. Hopefully I'll be hitting it hard after the move. Appreciate the confidence booster though my friend. And sorry for getting your dang name wrong the other day!! 😅
@@LifeofBliss Ahhhh...what's in a name ;P? All good brother, my name is one of those different names that you have to think twice to make sure you heard it right ;)! Keep up the work outs, they are paying off!
Hi, I'd like to see the option, to manage the Nas by my self. If a Drive fails, I don't want to wait for them to look for it. Is 16TB per Drive really the Limit?
Picture quality? Honestly between the pro and mini, I haven't had them on the same setups. They've been in different rooms on different panels/projectors. I've had no issues with picture quality on the mini though. I'd say if you have the NAS or a pro player with on board hard drives, just grab the minis for other rooms that you'd want to access your collection. The pro streaming from the NAS is my main setup I use though
Curious, is there a limit on the types of discs the NAS will read from? I have a lot of CD-R with DVD movies,, and even a folder full of MPG4 movies as well. (I also own approx 4k : DVDs, Blu-rays, 4k Bluray, HD-DVD, (and even a couple VHS and Laserdic where the title hasn't made its way to DVD yet)
Are you in the U.S? On their website it says, “US regulation does not allow "private copy" please call one of our repsentative to find alternative solutions.” Does this mean you can’t use the nas in the US?
Wow Yikes those products are expensive! I can see where these fit in tho with people that are not as tech savvy as other and just wanna back up and watch movies. I would just rather build a nice server for 3500 bucks and that would include the drives. I really enjoyed your video of all those products it is nice to see what is out there!
Yea they aren't for the budget conscious... but man, for the hours of research it would take to setup a good server (for me anyways), it's a fool proof setup. About as turn key as it gets. They even set your drives up in whatever raid format you want remotely.
@@LifeofBliss I agree very simplistic lol and It is taking me 5 ever to rip all of my media and label it lol I love plex tho and I am getting an actual server with dual 8 core Xeons with 80 gigs of ram and 24 tb but it is going take a ton of tinkering but I enjoy that aspect of it lol
One day. I need that Pro to come down $500. Right now i'm just using Plex and my own NAS, but sadly Plex can't do Dolby Vision. Getting the Zappiti to playback Dolby Vision files just isn't worth it for me right now though.
I can’t seem, to find the product for sale? I’m in the U.S. Is it not available, for sale here? If it’s not, what’s a good alternative that does the same thing? I really want this product, but can’t find it.
Unfortunately the FBI cracked down on the sale of the NAS unit in the USA due to copyright issues. The players can still be bought, but not the NAS. Synology has good NAS units but you'll need to buy a 4k drive to rip the disks and the software to do it
@@LifeofBliss That’s absolutely ridiculous that, the FBI has that much time on there hands to “crack down” on that. Which drives would you recommend? Would, you ever consider doing an updating to tutorial again?
I love the fact, that on the NAS in the video. It copy’s it bit by bit. All subtitles etc etc, I just wish I knew how to do all of that without it haha.
It is ridiculous... I'm not too sure about the drives myself since I have the NAS, but I believe Techno Dad has some videos on how he copies the disks and what drive he uses, I'd check out his channel man
Yea I know MKV maker is one of them. You also need to get a specific drive and install pervious firmware on it to read 4k disc's. Zappiti takes care of all that with their products, but obviously at a cost
It should play them, just without the added color depth dolby vision provides. Kind of like hdr disks still play on nonhdr screens, you just don't get the added color depth
Do you have Nvidia Shield? If yes, how does mini Zappiti compare to NVidia Shield pro? It’s would be perfect if mini Zappiti have two HDMI inputs. Thanks
Not to put a damper on things, but I tried using my previous Shield w/ Plex app & my server, granted not really the same, but I ran into a lot of compatibility issues w/ applications in general on the Shield. Nvidia was terrible w/ keeping up w/ updates as well. Hardware was great & when it worked, it really did work. Just those moments of extreme frustration when things broke software wise though, so I ditched mine.
Yea its kind of a whole package kind of product. There's a little more to getting the 4k disc's copied than regular blurays. Pricey but some people don't want to mess with setting things up like that. I try to throw some comedy on there 😉
No problem! Towards the end of the video I go through how it looks either going to the menu or going straight to the movie, so you can see it has the full disk copied with all the features. Even different audio tracks
Question, we install a NAS and a mini player and the hard drives came with the unit from zappiti so all was set up by them. Direct lines from a gigabit switcher to the mini player and NAS for the network. The first 100 + DVD were load it without an issue, just a wear thing, any video took more than 10 minutes to load in the NAS, more less than 5 minutes, but it showing in the NAS and play. Them after some weeks of load started the issues, the DVD burn inside the NAS was not working, we being advise to turn off and on the NAS because it is a PC. I am.maki g the story short but many things happen...we receive an external DVD player for the NAS and we download movies using the external DVD player and it works for some days but other issues about 3 minutes to download a movie and them start to not show movies they were download, so more than 200 movies and only show less than 150. My question is some one have this issue we had. No 4K movies in this download, most old DVD movies version from the 80 and 90. By the way good video from life of bliss, just i miss when he said the interface you are seeing in the red background from zappiti is from the mini, you need the mini, the pro to connect to the NAS
Have been considering getting this and even though the price is fair, it is pricey and will probably be lower on the priority list as I want to upgrade some amps first. Fpr physical media, I own just over 1400 DVDs, 250 BD and only about 40 UHD as I just moving into the 4k world and about 450 1080p digital movies. Can't forget the 70+ Disney VHS tapes Most DVDs are stored in binders for space as I only have room for about 800 on display shelf in the theater room. I miss the good old days of movie rental shops where I could by the new release DVD for $10 only 4 weeks after release as a friemd was a manager there. Streaming has reduced purchases as unless I really like the stream, I don't buy the physical media. O could definitely use Zapiti to organize my collection for easy access as I can never get the kids to put the movies back in alphabetical order.
Great coverage, I have had Zappiti in my system for just under a year. Have the NAS (128 TB,) a Pro 4K, and a Mini. Issues are being worked out thanks to Raphael, 1095 movies, of which 141 are 4K. A big problem is that the 4K titles don't play smoothly, in that they pause every few seconds. Raphael says the NAS 4K files aren't corrupted, thinks it may be in my network. Tried other data cables, including BJC CAT 6 cables, no relief. I am wondering if any others out there have had this issue?
Sorry to hear that man... I have had no issues at all with the NAS besides not being able to rip movies at one point. I had it unplugged for a few months and missed some updates. After that it was fine. I have my player hard wired into the network with the NAS so there haven't been any issues with playback. Wireless is tough for the 4k movies I've seen just because of the sheer amount of data it's trying to transfer. If you happen to be running wireless, maybe trying getting everything hard wired to a switch somehow
Thanks You did notice where I said I tried different data cables, so yes all components are wired, the NAS is connected directly to the Actiontec MI424WR Rev.1 router and the Pro 4K is connected to a Trendnet 16 port 10/109 switch Also some 4K titles wouldn't rip so Raphael changed the auto rip in the NAS, and now only 4 titles remain out of 16 not ripped, 3 Blu Ray also. I have 3 external Asus optical drives, helps when a lot of discs have to be ripped Need to talk to Raphael again, he has gotten very busy of late., thanks again.
Yea I noticed you mentioned that, but I didn't know if the player and NAS was all wired up or just the NAS. I know their new line of players will be coming out soon, so I he's been busy wrapping things up on those. Hope you get your issues figured out with the playback my friend 👍🏼
This seems like a skinned Kodi or Plex system. I wonder if the big server is just running windows with some stuff happening on the back end. It looks like it is just a motherboard for a full computer.
Very informative review. I am a proud owner of the 4K Pro and I have to admit that it has a better picture and sound than the Nvidia Shield pro 2019 that I also own. 3D movies are awesome on the Zappiti.
Plex is definitely cheaper, you just have to set everything up yourself. Its going to take a little know how to get 4k rips as well from what I've seen. Regular blurays aren't as difficult. Thats probably the biggest thing though, ease of use. Zappiti will be closing the gap in different services offered coming soon. I personally don't have the setup to take advantage of plex and ripping movies, but I've played around a bit with it. Cool service, just more user intensive. If you have the money... zappiti is pretty dang nice
True but Plex has so much more integration platforms into into like live TV for cord cutters, music, Internet TV shows and now ol-school arcade games as well as access over the internet away from home. Zappiti looks nice but expensive and not a lot of integration. Neither platform supports Dolby Vision yet. If would great if more integration and less expensive. I have been using Plex since 2013 but has not ripped any 4K movies yet because I do not have a 4K drive yet. I recently started using Roon for all my music instead of Plex because it has better metadata and works better MSQ files. Good Luck PM
Definitely some advantages to both. Plex is more feature rich with this generation of the zappiti system for sure. They have some big plans for future systems. The ease of use is their biggest selling point right now. Just another option for an easy media player out there 👍
I have a zapitti one....upgraded to a WD Red Pro 16tb hard drive....love it ....put all my 4k /bluray movies on it!......prob is when j play a movie from my inserted hard drive I detect a slight 'knocking sound 🤔.....is this normal??....anybody know?...
I know the zappiti is not making that noise. No moving parts... has to be a drive issue. Do you have another drive to test out? That'd help determine if the drive is making that noise
Well done on the collection. Makes my 2000 look like an ant hill. I seem to be buying a lot less the past few years even though I prefer the physical media.
Okay now calculate how long it's going to take you to encode, how much storage you'll need and the cost of periodic NAS / HDD replacement and electricity. Just use VUDU... We have at least 4,000 titles it was faster for me to use VUDU's $2/ea disc-to-digital, if you have half a brain you can get 12K-14K titles at $2/ea whether you own the original media or not. Otherwise hire some person to feed your encoder for the next three or four years straight non-stop (4-6 hours/day) practically.
I've mainly used the app for my phone for navigation. Theres a slight lag and sometimes I have to hit a button twice to get it to respond. Not uncommon for app control though, happens with my yamaha receiver, emotiva processor, etc... with the remote, its pretty responsive. I dont use it much as I dont have a direct line of sight with the IR receiver, but I feel it does pretty well navigating through the movies. Theres a bit of a delay when changing pages of movies or if you open a movie up, it takes 1-2 seconds to load all of the info and the thembnail/background. Small imperfection imo though. Hasn't bothered me
@@LifeofBliss That's not too bad considering. I would say that direct alignment to the IR could help, but as for the processing of the Zappiti, it may not get better than that since it would be using an on board graphics chip on either the processor (CPU) or the motherboard (likely the CPU). Most PCs will run similarly if they do not have a dedicated or discrete Graphics card (GPU) offloading graphical tasks from the CPU itself. Basically, one guy doing all the heavy lifting vs a team of two doing the same workload. :)
Its definitely more responsive with the ir remote. That said, the actual processing if the zappiti lags just a bit when changing pages of movies or pulling up movie details. Its a small delay, but its there
Hilarious, tosses the notebook dvd, but it was a good movie..... but this how it be when its a multitude of titles and you cant decide. been looking for a solution to rip all my dvds and media to one source
So i do this without a need for any hardware other than a pc and a nas. All tvs use inputs , serviio on a pc handles this , no app to download to any tv or anything , i can custom build profiles if need be , and supports 4k and 8k over wireless without worry or buffering , never had an issue .... atmos , dolby vision ... sky is the limit
I haven't had a disk take over 75 minutes at the longest so far, usually under an hour depending on the show. 4k disks that is. Regular bluray is closer to 30 min
Its definitely not cheap... They work with other NAS setups like synology as well, but this NAS from Zappiti takes all the setup and configuration out of the equation. It just works.
As of now it really stinks that you cannot purchase the NAS system in the usa any longer would have been great for me, I have a very large library I could have used all those HD bays does it do dolby vision as well.
Wow, $3,000 is quite expensive. I recently purchased an inexpensive external DVD drive on Temu and can accomplish the same thing with my computer and Synology NAS for a fraction of the cost.
This system is ask about convenience. You never touch the software setup, don't have to keep it up to date, name them, file them, setup the raid configuration... that's all done by zappiti, you just drop a disc in and let it do. Zappiti just went out of business unfortunately but they started another company with essential all the same products. Interesting situation that's too long for the comment section
Oh, WHAT ADORABLE CHILDREN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you find a better way I'd love to hear it
@@LifeofBliss That’s pretty much how you have to do it.
Dang, quite the collection!
Really nicely done overview and initial setup guide
Oh my god i have been waiting for something like this forever, just pop in and copy, and forget it! Omg omg omg
It's a pretty sweet setup for sure
sweet review and preciate you going thru the set up on the zappiti , WD rp4100 my cloud nas 4 10tb wd red harddrives bout 2000 movies so far n counting
Great video!!!!
I own a little over 500 blu-ray movie disc’s and over a 100 4K movie disc’s .
I purchased a Zappiti player a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it!!!
Awesome review, thank you. Love the Ron Swanson vibe when you took out the Blanton's ;)
🤘🏼🥃 thank you sir. I love that character lol
What hard drives do you recommend for the zappiti
Thanks man. I'll have another video going into some more details on the interface and common questions people have.
@@LifeofBliss Cheers matey and counting my fingers.🤞👏👏👍
Looks like a nice product. Is it able to do video playlists so one can load custom trailers/ads/etc. prior to the feature with no on screen displays/graphics like a real commercial cinema?
I don't believe you can do that sort of thing. Just straight to the video or straight to the disc menu
Great Review, I have about 700, 4K, Blu-ray, and a few DVD's
Does these back up Blue Ray disks as well? That’s the problem I’ve had.
Recently found Zappiti media player. Great Video man, Pack with info. Thank you so much. I'll raise a Single malt to you tonight.
Cheers brother
It must be your AV receiver because I don’t have that issue. Try ripping your blu-ray movies with DVDFab M2TS pass through option.
The Zappiti website here in the US doesn’t show that NAS product that I can see. Is that not available here? Where did you buy that?
They removed it per federal regulations... unfortunately no longer available in the US
I have 377 blu rays and 4ks. Worth every penny BUT this looks interesting. They do take up a lot of space.
I loved your review had a question. Do you need the the player and the nas or can the nas serve as your player. Thanks for info
You will need both a player and the NAS. The NAS cannot output any video
And, I'm going to move my equipment into a 42U rack very soon (with very little extra space).
Dang, that's a lot of discs! (And changers!)
@@LifeofBliss Nice thanks, I think I'll have to order one of these.
impressive content
I LOVE your content style.. editing.. your family is involved..!!! .. #Best! =)
no Flinch as the screw driver slowly rolls off the table .. =) - Wha ta pro..
Thanks man! I'll have a comparison on those vs the Tuscany. Both XL versions for us bigger guys 💪 I've seen your stash, quite the collection!
Does it do tone mapping??
It is easier and cheaper to just connect a large hard drive loaded with your digital version of movies to your router/modem all of which has a USB port. Then using the apps of the router/modem share it to all those units connected to the modem including cellphones, tablets and Android/Smart TV. And use something like VLC to play them. Simple, no expensive NAS needed. Always reset router/modem when disconnecting the hard drive and adding or removing movies.
I agree with you although the NAS is pretty convenient.
great video
Well done...
Can this work without being online?
There is an offline mode that will download your movie thumbnails and info, but generally you'll want it connected to the internet for new rips and updates
I ain't going to lie to you I had to pause the video and had to comment man you had me crying laughing on that ass print on on the chair man you had me crying laughing now I'm fixing to go and get to watch the rest of this video I needed that laugh really bad
I have a question can you use your own NAS drive with the zappiti
Yes you can
I get easy setup. But 5k to get started without hard drives. What is the warranty like
Yea the NAS is pretty pricey, but there are ways to setup your own NAS with it as well. I'll be going over other options next video. Warranty is 2 years for all players I think, maybe just 1 for the NAS along with their premium support for 1 year. Allows you to add storage for them to set up or have them remotely troubleshoot any issues for free. Looks like all parts and labor are covered but shipping is on you
@@LifeofBliss thanks for the info. As always great video.
Man these are expensive for theater addicts. A qnap or synology + Apple TV / shield / Roku stick with plex does all of this and support Dolby vision / atmos
No WiFi?? Or does it need to be hard wired??? Great review thanks G
The players have wifi, the NAS does not. It needs to be hard wired. That said, you'll get better performance if everything is wired into your network
@@LifeofBliss Cheers! Looking forward to that video 😀
Would you only need the mini if you have the NAS? Why is there hard drive bays in the pro if you store movies on the nas?
Great video Kyle, you touched on all the important info. For me, getting up to change the discs is the only exercise I get, better stick to discs for now ;P!
I dont believe that one bit... I've seen those subs moved around the room a few times!! Thats hard work there!
@@LifeofBliss lol, you caught me there, but that is a labor of love ;). You still working out pretty hard, your arms are looking pretty big?
Psh... after I got Covid and we started getting things in line after selling the house, I'm lucky to make it 3x a week.
You'd have to reach out to zappiti about that. Per their specs, 16 gb is the max for this setup
Ah...Blanton's for the win. :)
🥃😁
What is the PQ between the Mini, Pro and NAS? Have you settled on one of them? if so which one.
There is a list of file types it will read on their website. It recognizes quite a bit of file types...
Can you put 20T hard drives ?
I believe 16 gb are the max for the nas. You'd have to confirm with zappiti
Know where we can get a zappiti NAS on the downlow? They dont seem to be sold in the USA lately. Must be some sort of copyright laws here.
I do not... But you are right, I believe they had to stop selling in the us
Are you in the U.S? On their website it says, “US regulation does not allow "private copy" please call one of our repsentative to find alternative solutions.” Does this mean you can’t use the nas in the US?
In the US. Not sure about the warning... maybe a legal thing? But they do sell in the US and offer their services here
David best video very well done love your stuff much love xxx
Cool video
One day. I need that Pro to come down $500. Right now i'm just using Plex and my own NAS, but sadly Plex can't do Dolby Vision. Getting the Zappiti to playback Dolby Vision files just isn't worth it for me right now though.
Well the current gen zappiti does not play Dolby vision. I thought plex and could do DV with the Nvidia shield pro? No?
I'm not too sure about the drives myself since I have the NAS, but I believe Techno Dad has some videos on how he copies the disks and what drive he uses, I'd check out his channel man
@@LifeofBliss Okay, thank you so much for the response! I appreciate it a ton! I’ll check him out, thanks!
I am from India where can I buy zappiti mini 4k
Can you use the mini 4k hdr with an existing NAS such as Synology DS220j?
Yes. I'll go over that a bit more on the next video 👍
That big bad device would be great to digitize my entire library of dvd, blu ray, and 4k
I want to do pretty much what you described in your video but I'm having a hard time finding simple software to rip Blu-rays
Yea I know MKV maker is one of them. You also need to get a specific drive and install pervious firmware on it to read 4k disc's. Zappiti takes care of all that with their products, but obviously at a cost
So how do you play dolby vision rips thru bdmv or iso and how do you get the player to play them
It should play them, just without the added color depth dolby vision provides. Kind of like hdr disks still play on nonhdr screens, you just don't get the added color depth
Do you have Nvidia Shield? If yes, how does mini Zappiti compare to NVidia Shield pro?
It’s would be perfect if mini Zappiti have two HDMI inputs. Thanks
I do, but I have barely used it so no real room to compare
Not to put a damper on things, but I tried using my previous Shield w/ Plex app & my server, granted not really the same, but I ran into a lot of compatibility issues w/ applications in general on the Shield. Nvidia was terrible w/ keeping up w/ updates as well. Hardware was great & when it worked, it really did work. Just those moments of extreme frustration when things broke software wise though, so I ditched mine.
Kinda expensive for just the unit and no included drives. Btw that opening scene was absolutely hilarious. 😂
Yea its kind of a whole package kind of product. There's a little more to getting the 4k disc's copied than regular blurays. Pricey but some people don't want to mess with setting things up like that. I try to throw some comedy on there 😉
Small question, is Zappiti can play by folder or just iso files
Not sure... I assume you're talking about playing episodes of a show? I'll have to clarify with them and include that on the next video
I mean, can zappiti play the blu ray folder or just blu ray iso ? Many thanks to your support
It can play quite a few movie types. Not sure what up mean by bluray folder. It can go to the original menus and play all the special features
@@LifeofBliss thanks alot for your support, now I must buy it...
Can't forget the 70+ Disney VHS tapes
Most DVDs are stored in binders for space as I only have room for about 800 on display shelf in the theater room.
Nice collection! Organization is always a struggle even without kids...
Great coverage,
I have had Zappiti in my system for just under a year.
Thanks
You did notice where I said I tried different data cables, so yes all components are wired, the NAS is connected directly to the Actiontec MI424WR Rev.1 router and the Pro 4K is connected to a Trendnet 16 port 10/109 switch
Also some 4K titles wouldn't rip so Raphael changed the auto rip in the NAS, and now only 4 titles remain out of 16 not ripped, 3 Blu Ray also. I have 3 external Asus optical drives, helps when a lot of discs have to be ripped
Need to talk to Raphael again, he has gotten very busy of late., thanks again.
Yea I noticed you mentioned that, but I didn't know if the player and NAS was all wired up or just the NAS.
I know their new line of players will be coming out soon, so I he's been busy wrapping things up on those. Hope you get your issues figured out with the playback my friend 👍🏼
Does it rip true Dobly Vision?
Yes, but the older players don't play DV. The newer ones do I believe
This seems like a skinned Kodi or Plex system. I wonder if the big server is just running windows with some stuff happening on the back end. It looks like it is just a motherboard for a full computer.
I think it's running windows server. Its an android based program is running on though
Very informative review. I am a proud owner of the 4K Pro and I have to admit that it has a better picture and sound than the Nvidia Shield pro 2019 that I also own. 3D movies are awesome on the Zappiti.
Placebo Effect is real lol.
Do you prefer this over Plex. As you stated plex is cheaper and has more to offer than just movie watching.
Good Luck
PM
I have done that with the notebook more times than I can count.
does it support iso format?
Yes, it makes a bit for bit copy of the disks and saves them in iso format actually
Great video as always. My collection is just over 7,000
😳 damn! That's incredible man!
Question.. was there any input delay or lag when navigating through the zappiti UI windows?
Hasn't bothered me
@@LifeofBliss sounds good. It's definitely the route I'm going in.
Its a small delay, but its there
I just bought the new version. Can't wait to try it out.
Hilarious, tosses the notebook dvd, but it was a good movie..... but this how it be when its a multitude of titles and you cant decide. been looking for a solution to rip all my dvds and media to one source
I'm actually debating whether to add that one or not. So I laughed really hard when I saw that part.
So i do this without a need for any hardware other than a pc and a nas. All tvs use inputs , serviio on a pc handles this , no app to download to any tv or anything , i can custom build profiles if need be , and supports 4k and 8k over wireless without worry or buffering , never had an issue .... atmos , dolby vision ... sky is the limit
have ripped my collection which is not too big but each BR took at least 45 mins to 3hrs to rip so mind boogles how long for a 4k disc
The average 4K movie is around 70-80 gigs.
It takes around 70- 80 minutes to backup each. Roughly a gig a minute give or take.
I haven't had a disk take over 75 minutes at the longest so far, usually under an hour depending on the show. 4k disks that is. Regular bluray is closer to 30 min
@@LifeofBliss Mission impossible Fall Out is 142 gigs (120 minutes)
@@David25522 dang, large file there
Can someone tell me how to rip DVD's, Blu Rays and CD's onto the internal hard drive?
I use MakeMKV for Blu-ray/DVD and EAC for CD.
Sooo..we're back to jukeboxes again
Yessir. Get your quarters ready!
I would have to max the drive capacity out for my over 3000 title collection. That is really pricey, but it might be worth it.
Its definitely not cheap... They work with other NAS setups like synology as well, but this NAS from Zappiti takes all the setup and configuration out of the equation. It just works.
does it also copy 4k movies?
It rip DVD’s , Blu-rays and 4K disc.
Yessir
295 4K/HD and dunno related to SD. This was a great review and real consideration in the future 🤘🏻
How about an update?
As of now it really stinks that you cannot purchase the NAS system in the usa any longer would have been great for me, I have a very large library I could have used all those HD bays does it do dolby vision as well.
I think ill just dnld movies on my laptop and hdmi into my tv to watch them
Wish I could afford one of these.
I wish they still sell these the us.
Looks great! However, for $1000 and no Dolby Vision support?? HUGE oversight! Couldn't they afford the license? =) haha
Dolby Vision is pretty complex.
They’re releasing a mode later this year that supports Dolby Vision.
Oh, WHAT ADORABLE CHILDREN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shame it doesn't include a built in DVD player to enable computer-free transfers.
Used to use MakeMKV but they ceased BD ripping.
What do you mean they stopped blu ray ripping?
@@jacobstegall8668 I heard that the BD ripping feature was discontinued in late 2019. Is that false?
@@basspig I can still do it with blu ray with the current version.
@@jacobstegall8668 Hopefully the rumor was incorrect. Is it still true that you have to download a new version every thirty days to keep ripping BD?
@@basspig Not that I've seen. I just update it when there is a new version but I bought a key to register it so I don't have the hassle. Plus if you open a blu ray using makemkv, you can use handbrake to rip as well.
