  • The most famous debates in American history turned a little known Illinois lawyer into a presidential contender when Abraham Lincoln confronted slavery with the Declaration of Independence's idea that all men are created equal. "Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it." Watch ad-free on Google Play: play.google.co...

Thank god for weirdos like Lincoln willing to say what needs to be said regardless of it being popular opinion or not.
Douglas tells the people what they want to hear and Lincoln says what needs to be said

Ironically, this is all being dismantled right in front of your eyes today.

So you. Might feel weird at the time, but for all time be seen as one of the Greats in history.
    Huh.

And that is very admirable. Perhaps we could use that kind of thinking in politics now.

He was able to identify and see the common feelings that slaves would have felt because as a child he was made to work and someone else recieved the pay. So he saw similarities between himself and slaves instead of seeing differences.

It is extremely disconcerting when the talking heads in this video seem to have less knowledge of the English language than the uneducated master. President Abraham Lincoln. I have read Michael Burlingame’s book. Its as ambiguous as calling lincoln lucky to take on the debates. History tells us that Luck was not one of Lincolns strong points . Douglas was arrogant and even though the men had known each other for years, he allowed his class to judge Lincoln. MB calls this luck ?

So in a nutshell, the power of words is shown to have power for change to utilize a stronger union for all.
