    My experience on the Surface Go is pretty consistent with what's being said in this video. It does feel a little sluggy comparing to a laptop, but most things will work just fine.

    Have had mine for a week, currently using as a supplement for mechanical engineering classes. Decided to go with the $399 model (currently $379 if you buy direct from Microsoft website as student, pen is $10 off too), and it’s been perfect. OneNote and Drawboard have been perfect for all of my notes and pdf editing, anything processor intensive I save for my home computer (CAD, Mathematica, etc.). Great way to cut down on paper clutter and backpack weight!

    I love this device so much. It would be a little bit difficult if it was my ONLY computer, but I think it's MEANT to be someone's daily driver that is "good enough" to do most tasks on the go or at work with a primary computer at home.
    Most reviews out there focus on what it can't do and the ways that it will limit you but most - if not all - of the negative reviews fail to focus enough on what this device DOES enable you to do. They also make it seem like its processing ability is just terrible but that's not even close to the case. Chrome has issues with this device, but it also has issues with my Core i7 at home. Edge and Firefox both run smooth and clean on this device so there is clearly something going on with the innards of Chrome that lead to its struggles with this and other modestly powered Windows touch screen laptops that I've observed.
    I really couldn't be happier with this purchase. You're paying for versatility here and not the ability to do all things in a top-of-the-line fashion.

    You should have used tablet mode when using it as a tablet, since you made touch interaction look clumsy. Tablet mode gives you gestures to close and manage windows, a back button, scales up certain UI items and saved battery life since it will automatically suspend WinRT/UWP apps in the background.

    Nice review, I opted for the Surface pro just for the added screen real estate, but those mobile versions of Office you mentioned are fully free on the Surface Go, thats a saving because Office 365 isn't needed. As a previous Chromebook user I know that pentium chip in the Surface Go is more than up to daily tasks. 8GB is a realistic minimum of ram.

I’ve realised I don’t do THAT much on the go so the lighter and smaller device may be better.....but mad when you think of the Surface Pro as too big considering how slim and light it is but it does feel huge after using the Go for a bit

    The 4gb is good enough for most people. If you're using the Go as a mainly a tablet, you will be more than fine and satisfied as it will run most if not all software. I have my main PC, which is a high end Ryzen gaming PC, and the Go is amazing for your tablet needs plus some PC power. You will not be limited to just a tablet like an iPad. You'll have a very good tablet and okay-ish computer.
    However, if the Go will be your primary or only computer, you're better off getting the better version, or just invest in the surface Pro.

    Great review and camera work, easy sub for me 👍 How comfortable is typing and reading things from the screen when you use it in laptop style? Some reviews said it's a bit too tiny to read stuff on the 10" screen (need to constantly zoom in) and frustrating to type on (hand position is crammed).

    • @JackJunior
      @JackJunior  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s usable, I don’t think you would want to have to rely on it 8 hours a day for typing, but I used it exclusively for a couple days and didn’t find it to be a huge issue. It really depends on the type of work your doing and personal preference. Hope this is helpful!

    • @PeteOliva
      @PeteOliva 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find it comfortable in short bursts. It's the main reason the screen zoom is set to 150 percent, and it works OK without feeling too cramped, especially since its 4:3 aspect ratio. You could set it to 125 percent for more real estate but that would probably make things too small.

    • @DanielHarrisCodes
      @DanielHarrisCodes 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The screen is easy enough to use. The keyboard takes a little getting used to but is comfortable enough to type on. Not quite as sturdy as the larger surface pro keyboards. I would prefer this as a device to use on the go and connect to a keyboard at home.
      I’ve found that taking a Bluetooth mouse around with you helps. For some reason it’s just way more comfy than switching between the small keyboard and trackpad.

      Kenji Schautzer the battery last for 6 hours and a half. It runs well. Although there is a S Mode which is like the safety version like chrome books you can turn it off which is cool meaning you can use that mode for children’s. It has high graphic’s it’s a good tablet/laptop for people who want simple things not to big to heavy not taking a lot of space, but simple. I’m buying one because I like drawing and use it for school it’s great to take it anywhere on the go.

    It's a awesome portable device.. of course it has its limitations with the processor but well all office works can be easily done & YES you can play some games if you can tweak it a bit!! I have seem many reviewers have negative comments on the performance but u need to understand the benefits rather than harping on it cant open 20 chrome tabs or doing video editing! N yes comparing with iPads as some Apple sheeps do :) it of course there is a lack of Apps and as a tablet iPAD is better( I own a 2018 pad and its gr8!) but its a full windows 10 legacy s/w n not a mobile OS, so it will be slower any day!! yes it can be improved but not a bad device to throw anyways !!!

      Initial start up takes a little long, but other than that, if you're not running more than 2 youtube videos at the same time, performance is pretty okay. Still a little stuttery sometimes though

    • @PeteOliva
      @PeteOliva 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chrome runs OK on the 8GB version, but I've noticed what makes it seem sluggish is that there's some sort of weird anomaly with the scrolling. But it's only when scrolling on the touch screen. If you have the keyboard cover and use the touchpad to scroll, the sluggishness is gone. Same with a mouse and even with the Surface Pen.
      So it's got to be the way Chrome is optimized (or not optimized, apparently) for the touch screen on this device, or lower-powered Windows touch devices in general, because I've seen similar behavior on some of the lower-powered HP laptops with Chrome.

      MrGrownman455 chrome is cross platform with many useful add one including Grammarly, Evernote, adblockers, etc. so I have all this usability on my Windows, phone, iPad and MacBook. You cannot with Edge, very limited. I agree it is like safari on my Mac, super fast as it is optimized, but then safari on Windows is not nearly as good (if it still exists). The whole point of Windows, as the fans keep telling me, is it’s not limited like an iPad, you have the whole Windows ecosystem, and that is why the GO fails, well one of many, you cannot use even the most popular web browser as it is painfully slow and laggy.
      Other issues are the small battery, you get 50% more on an iPad, it is not always on, so you don’t get messages when you are on the GO, repair ability is 1 out of 10, it’s running a chip nearly 2 years old, no upgrade ability, no LTE or GPS at the moment, GO is bit of a misnomer, 128gb is too small, and no I don’t want to use SD storage. With the extras this comes to over £700 and I can get a real SP for around that price with the keyboard. 10 inches on Windows sucks, scaling is bad and the icons and menus on many apps are not optimized for touch, it remains a below average tablet experience.
      All in all it is a product in the niche area, for productivity it is a no GO as it will be too slow, for working on apps that you do now like Chrome, forget it and for future proofing it’s already running old internals so no. It can work for artists, for taking notes, for just watching videos, or for businesses using just a single point of contact app. Then again there are many products that can do a simple regime like that so why buy the GO over them?
      I think it will not works for schools as it doesn’t look tough enough to survive that life.
      All in all especially once the new iPad and new generation of Qualcomm tablets are released this will look as old as its internals.

    • @BW022
      @BW022 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I like and use Edge, but reasons why people use Chrome are well known...
      1. Familiarity. Chrome was the obvious desktop winner prior to Edge's release. For the past five years, it was the defacto standard for desktops as Internet Explorer was so poor.
      2. Windows. If you are using Windows 7, you can't run Edge. Thus, lots of people are familiar with Chrome because they couldn't run Edge until they upgraded computers/OSs. Many companies still run Windows 7.
      3. Compatibility. Edge is much better but... For the past ten years, developers have been writing for Chrome and mobile browsers (and possibly older IE if they must). That means a lot of web sites have not been tested for Edge. Further... even newer sites or those who test on Edge it is still an afterthought as Chrome dominates desktop market space. It only takes one commonly used site which has one glitch in Edge and you have to pull up Chrome.
      4. Add-ons. Edge only recently added these and the number isn't as great as in Chrome. If you have an add-on you need or rely on you can't use Edge.
      Edge is not way faster. For most uses it really isn't noticeable as most time browsing is waiting for files to download or sites to process requests. Loading and rendering a page rarely makes a difference outside of benchmarks or sites pouring on complex JavaScript and rendering implementations. Further, a 10% or even 20% difference is meaningless on higher-end processors or large amounts of memory.

    “You actually can use this keyboard cover in my experience.”
    What does he mean by that? That sentence seems to be without any meaning.
    Like when you buy a violin, and a bow to play it with, and then say: “You can actually use this bow in my experience.”
    Well yes, that’s what the bow was made for and why you bought it. Just plucking the strings with your fingertips, although it makes sounds, doesn’t really give you the full experience of violin playing.
