    I tried the MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar, and I can't say I was impressed.
    As a creative, to consistently look down while working to access the buttons on the Touch Bar makes me feel like it takes time away instead improving time productivity.
    The keyboard was also a change to get used to, as they transitioned the MacBook keyboard now to the Pro line. I think they should've kept them separate, to give that Professional feel for the user.
    Should I need to upgrade, I'll go with the 2015 models. They have what I need.

    @Cornelius87 7 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    The thing is you learn to type fast and to not have to look down on the keyboard so you're more productive and now Apple releases this touchbar which seems cool but forces the user to look down repeatedly and use your index fingers like a noob

    • @Nahiyan12
      @Nahiyan12 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The touchbar is supposed to deal with dynamic stuff. Ofc, you have to look at dynamic UI no matter where they are: on the screen or the keyboard. You don't use touchbar for typing abcd. And no, you can use any finger to use the touchbar. I usually end up using my middle finger more than my index finger as I do with regular keys.

      Nada. It'll only charge from one source at a time.

      9to5Mac Hey thanks for the reply I left another comment.

    • @9to5Mac
      @9to5Mac  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not sure. The 13-inch model will only accept 60W, so it's hard to say without trying it. Now if you did the same with the 15-inch model, it would use the higher W charger. Maybe someone else can chime in on this.

    • @tyblinger
      @tyblinger 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In previous versions of MBP, you could always use a bigger charger for a smaller model (i.e. 80W charger on a 13" MBP). I would assume that's still the case. You shouldn't, however, use a smaller charger on the more powerful model.

    i never thought someone would call these laptops flexible and mind-blowing in regards to connectivity ...that just shows you how opinions can vary .. really amazing

  • @andrewfreeman88
    @andrewfreeman88 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Your not in the minority Jeff, The touch bar is not necessary and doesn't solve any problems. Apple should have made the high-end 13" and 15" inch without the Touchbar and $300 less on price.

  • @igcetra
    @igcetra 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I'm not a Mac user but it just baffles me how they would get rid of all USB ports and even magsafe. If I was to suggest a design for this I would do 2 USB ports at least for sure and then maybe 2 other USB-C to accelerate the transition but not force it on the user. Then charging on both sides is meh. It's cool but not necessary. Macs have relaly good batteries so in general you never see people charging their laptops when they're out and about anyways so not really necessary. Did not understand why the headphone jack was there.. that makes no sense, especially when there's no USB ports and only USB-C, and of course since they got rid of the jack in iPhone 7.. So basically, iPhone 7 users cant really plug in their phone to this mac directly..
    Touch bar: it's nice it's cool but it probably would've been a better move to add in a touch screen at that point, especially at that price point. Can't imagine that the touch bar can add a 500$ price to the base model.

  • @Ivan_1986
    @Ivan_1986 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good review Jeff. I like that you compared the maxed out version to base 13" non-touch bar model, as well as got early 2016 MacBook into the mix. Used 12" MacBook for around 1,5 month as the main notebook recently and was surprised by its performance and greatly valued it's completely silent operation and portability. Only 1 port was not convenient for charging but fine due to long battery life, but the fact that it is 5Gb/s USB C port made it impossible to connect to Thundebolt Display or docking stations that I have and that was the main turn off. Now switching from Late 2013 MacBook Pro 15 (Iris only) to maxed out 13" MacBook Pro which seem to cover all the caveats I had about 12" MacBook, provide ample power and ports as well as finally bringing Touch ID into the mix. Don't think that I will miss 15" screen much since for any serious work I use an external monitor as the main work area next to the notebook. The only question remains is how well will a 13" MacBook Pro drive the 5k display...)

      Top Dawg like your iPhone. MacBook Pro should be supposed to run naked. Any extra layer of cover will affect the heat radiation, any extra layer of thickness will press the screen when the MacBook is closed

    I think we are at the beginning of something big. We only have seen a few applications for the touch bar. Wait for those creative developers to put their talent to work. Touch ID is huge. I use 1Password and it has been so great to open my password manager with just a touch. Now I can do it on the MacBook Pro. Awesome.

    The tabs in Safari should be favicons on the touch bar IMO

    • @coltonwhite7593
      @coltonwhite7593 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your favicons/bookmarks show up in the touch bar when you are on a fresh, new tab. You can select which book mark you care access from there.

    • @fray2748
      @fray2748 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Colton White That's great, but Safari doesn't show favicons on your tabs like other browsers do, which could be added by showing them on the touch bar instead of showing a tiny picture of a full webpage

    • @michaeldiaz2409
      @michaeldiaz2409 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jamie Chen i hear the base model without the touch bar has a hour more battery than the rest because of the 2.0 ghz processor

    • @michaeldiaz2409

      So base model should be 9 1/2 hours and the rest should be 8 1/2 hours because the i5 and the i7 waste just a bit more juice

    I waited two years for Apple to release a new fantastic machine so that I could replace my MBA 11" mid-2011 that I have loved. Now I'm typing this on a new fully spec'ed Dell XPS 13 with Kaby Lake i7. Why? The new Macbook "pro" has too shallow keyboard, no sdcard slot, no usb a. The thouch bar feels like a gimmick. I find myself using the touch screen on the Dell all the time. Do I miss the industrial design of Apple? Yes. Do I miss the trackpad? Yes. Do I miss MacOS? Yes. Do I regret buying Dell? Not yet.

    I'm coming from a mid 2012 nonretina MacBook Pro 13 inch, and I must say I'm impressed with the new MacBook pros. I really love the speakers on the 15 inch, it sounds very nice. The dongle life is ok for me. One thing I notice about using the touch bar. I remember surifing the web. My eyes were so focused on my MacBook screen so I completely forgot about the touch bar since I'm no looking down. But there are occasions where I love the touch bar, scrubbing videos on safari for example.

    Had Apple stuck to it's usual pricing (base model starting at $1200 middle $1500 or $1700) all of the above would have been fine but the pricing is making people think "Why?" "Do I really need it" Touch Bar is a decent compromise to the touch issue. I wished the Touch Bar was a wee bit bigger and the track pad a wee bit smaller.

    I'm also a keyboard shortcuts guy -- and the fact that the touchbar changes for each app running means a lot more time spent looking away from my work to make sure the right few pixels are under my finger. It's a nice option for folks who work in a purely visual manner and/or who like the "wow" factor, but for me... NO, thank you. I'm still trying to figure out why the company that invented the modern all-in-one computer has been steadily stripping ports & functions from their hardware only to give us the touchbar. :-(

    I wonder if you can use two chargers to charge at the same time for faster charging time?
    Edit. I guess I could have googled it.
    Here if anyone else was wondering. Your MacBook Pro draws power from only one power supply, even if more than one is attached-so using multiple power supplies will not speed up charging.
    If you connect multiple power supplies to your MacBook Pro, the one that provides the most power will be used, regardless of the order in which you connected them.
    You should not connect any power supply that exceeds 100W, as it might damage your Mac.

    I’m in a different category. After using computers for about 20 years I only ever used about 2 function key short cuts. Refresh and? I forget. I bought the new 13” MacBook Pro with touch bar- my first Mac computer. I really like it. And I like the touch bar. Finally! Someone replaced the archaic function keys! Good job Apple! This is the future. I’m sure that no computers will have function keys in a few years. They are going the way of the crock pot- and btw I’ve actually gone all Apple. Got my first iPhone too. iPhone 8 Plus. Why? Syncing my Samsung note 3 with Acer laptop was a nightmare. A total headache. Now my new iPhone and MacBook and iPad sync very easily and automatically. I’m very glad I switched

    You are comparing a spec'd out MBP Touchbar model with the entry level MBP sporting an i5. First of all, the difference - as far as benchmarking is concerned - seems pretty insignificant. I'd love to see the impact on battery life between these two models (1), and some actual tests, e.g. converting a video file or boot up times.
    I believe, Apple is stating 10 hours on both machines due to marketing. It is quite impossible for a model with a higher TDP, a smaller battery and an extra display to have a similar battery life than the entry model.

    do you think it's worth the price for the specs and features you get? i personally think it's to expensive, $200-300 of all models would have been much better.

    Narration of this video goes something like this "Woooow you may think this pile of poop is exactly what you think it is. But wait you can use it as a paper weight or even fertilizer which makes it extremely flexible!" Cmon man there are FAR more important features that should have been priority when this thing was built then the ones you're trying to draw our attention to.

    Paying almost 3k on a 13" laptop with top specs that is not even as close to surpassing any of what the other competitors are offering, is to me a serious waste of money. 15" which includes a dedicated gpu of only 2gb or 4gb and those models are reaching 4k price range...Ouch! By all means if this is not expensive for you then cheers to you. But I rather spend my money more wisely.

    Apple says its says 1000 times "No", for every "Yes". Apparently those 1000 "No"s where horribly uninspired if this MacBookPro is the "Yes". And thats not even about the price which is just making me question the marketing team of Apple even more....

    is upgrading i7 on the 13 inch worth? also does it affect battery life and heating? really considering it because upgrading the i7 is almost same price with 15 inch

    • @f-22raptor25
      @f-22raptor25 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keith Boon quad core makes a big difference. No point in doing it on the 13 in get the 15. The only thing the i7 will do is extend the life a little more for a lot of money.

    I have a theory, but I'd like to see if any other people think it has any validity. Since the trackpad has continuously gotten bigger each release, what if the apple pencil (or some stylus) is one day able to control the mouse on screen by moving around on the pad? It would be cool for drawing applications, user control, etc. Just my thoughts.

    • @stevenvalentino7217
