Thanks a lot, Brooke. I'm so grateful for this channel. It's like every week I learn a helpful lesson from this channel. I'm so lucky, too because I did have plan for this weekend is filling out my Common App. Thanks so much

Haven't heard back yet but I think these are generally good content ideas
Thank you for the video, Brooke! I have a question- what if you're doing the IB program? How do you fill in the common application in that case, because there is no such concept as "Honors" there?
8:55 okay I literally am taking flight lessons & have been wondering what category that would fit into & i’m literally shocked she used it as an example
I feel so stressful recent days because I apply these top colleges as an International student... making the application process even more competitive😭
Class of 2021 Good luck i hope y'all have a smooth application process we are all in fact dead inside now but at least we have no ACT/ SAT this year :)
Hey, quick question: I have done a lot of activities during my high school and I consider myself a good athlete and I boast about that on my activities section all day but I can’t provide proof to anything I state, I just don’t have any certificates of excellence in my soccer career and I just have a bunch of plastic medals that looks like I bought them from the store so will universities ask for proof or ask someone at my high school for the activities that I have done? Thanks in advance.
Super informative video! Would you recommend placing a self-founded non-profit organization in additional information? It is my most involved extracurricular and a component that will come into play in my essays. Thank you :)
are you sure about adding another essay in the additional section. I heard admission officers really don't want to read another essay and that this space should be really used only for additional info not story telling. Your thoughts
Every college is different. If a specific college in an info session tells you NOT to tell stories in this section then you can follow that advice for that college. There is no way I can read the mind of every admission officer in the country. On the whole, for competitive colleges, I find that my successful students (i.e. admits at Harvard, U Chicago and Berkeley last year or two) DID submit something here-- whether elaboration on some off grade, a particular educational circumstance, explanation of an activity that wouldn't fit, an extra essay or a combination of those. Does that mean those admissions officers didn't want those essays? I have no idea. But I don't think they hurt anyone. Worst case an admission officer may skim and not really read it. Of course if the essay is crap or not as strong as other essays. don't submit just to submit. You want this to be worth someone's time / really good if you do put something here. Also, if you're not applying to top 50 schools I don't think it matters as much unless you do have something you need to explain.
Thanks Brooke. I appreciate the answer. The question was for my daughter. A high achiever like yourself. She is the one who showed me your channel. She is applying to top 10 schools, among others. Her stats and activities are in the ballpark. I think it's up to the essays and the letters of rec (she won't see those) that's why she is concerned about adding a second essay in the additional info section. Schools like Harvard and Pomona have a long essay in their supplemental but other schools don't hence my question. Thanks again Brooke. You give the best advises on TH-cam.
I appreciated this video, as a college advisor, however I found that the family section can be stressful and not so easy for some students who are very difficult household situations. It is not something that all students can easily fill out.
Thanks for all the information! But I have a question, if i`m not planning on writing about it in my essays, would saying that I suffered from depression/ there is a history of mental/personality disorders run through my family, and due to external factors (two friends attempting suicide, they`re both fine thank god) caused a drop in my grades/ my failing of a class? or should I write that in my essays? My guidance and parents are literally useless with this application process and you`re honestly such a god send.
@@mr-bean2306 I got rejected from almost every university except for Santa Clara University lol. I decided to go to community college and transfer, and I had much better results in transfer admissions. I'm now a senior at UC Davis and will be graduating this year.

It's up to you, Rachel. If you do stay on the home school track, taking more SAT Subject tests is one way to show proficiency in comparison to other students, as is taking courses at a community college.
