THIS was truly THE first "light-hearted" song/video I believe Nate had ever produced. Showcasing his beautiful sense of humor. The whole mix-tape (pretty much) feels like a portrayal of how much he has healed emotionally.

That part in the street at the end wasn't a green screen or anything like that, it was real cuz there was a behind the scenes clip of them filming that. The video for Story on this mixtape is genius, it really is a short movie more than any other video of his. Overall this Clouds mixtape is a lot more lighthearted than The Search cuz he jokes around a lot more in most of the songs.

Yes! We're finally here! This was released in March of '21, with many references to Covid: "I had to come check in on you guys, you doing alright? Your year really sucked? Ya, that's what I figured."
NF also says, "Unsubmissive, the King of Mischief, the Golden Ticket, rare sight to see." The "King of Mischief" is Loki in Norse mythology. However, it is also a double entendre in referencing that Nate is also "Low-key;" as he keeps to himself and isn't flashy. Amazing and tough bar to catch!
Furthermore, NF is continuously popping up in places that he doesn't seem to fit in, nor belong. I think this is a visual metaphor for both him not belonging in the Rap Game in the eyes of the industry and media (NYT and Rolling Stones) and, also representative of him popping up out of nowhere and his fans embrace him when he releases new music randomly (as we are told in "Leave Me Alone" that this is his MO and part of his operation). "Unbreakable, you following? I'm Bruce Willis in a train wreck," references the movie, "Unbreakable" (and also "Split" and "Glass") with Bruce Willis.
NF used constant allegory and metaphor in the most visually stunning ways. Love the bar about wisdom with the double entendre! He references that he's "got something in the cup, ain't Codeine." Then, we literally see him grab a styrofoam cup out of the firetruck and jump out, seeing what appears to be, water, slosh out. Old school Rappers traditionally got high by drinking codeine (slizzr, syrup, lean, purple mess, and so on) out of Styrofoam cups. NF is taking a jab at these mumble rappers that lack substance and just get high, further proving to us that it's just water in his cup and that he's not like them. He witnessed the aftermath of addiction kill his Mom and distances himself from getting high and drinking due to that.
Nate says, "I don't gotta say it, they know where my head is." Again, he's referencing his head's up in the clouds, the mixtape's namesake, and also, he's referencing him being up in the clouds on the way to New Zealand in the track, "Statement." Looking forward to what's next! You're in for a ride!

The mixtape is finally coming your way and I am excited to see your reactions. When artists release mixtapes, they usually put songs on there that either fall out of the concept of an album or lack some quality. "Clouds" is definitely a change of tone and style for NF, because it is more cocky and experimental as ever before. The variety is so well condensed, since there are only 9 songs (+ Paid my Dues and a radio friendly version of Clouds). The quality on the other hand is off the charts. The song that resonated the most with me is "Drifting", but every song is great. I am really looking forward to see you reacting to "Story" and the less you know upfront, the better.
Drifting is on my top 3 favs on the MT. Such a great song. Story... Didn't want it to end!

Could you please let the song breathe. You really love the sound of your own voice. It may not occur to you that we are also watching and listening to the same thing you are. You don't need to explain every last thing you see and hear. We all see and hear it too. It's not Shakespeare or Tolstoy it's a rap video. Your audience more than capable of understanding it without you pausing every line to explain it to us. These videos are not that long ...... Pausing 2 or 3 times is understandable but not every line or every time there is change of scenery. I'm here because I have seen some really great reactions from you in the past. You paused when you had something insightful to add to what you had heard. Now you seem to pause to just tell me exactly what I am watching right along with you.
I love how when they filmed the end of the music video they actually had cars drive passed him.
I think Tommy posted a YT video on his page showing the making of that car part.

There's so much psychotherapy to pull from Aesop Rock's lyricism and I really think you'd enjoy how deep and well-articulated the rabbit hole can go.

Building 429 is a Christian rock bad. Maybe that was symbolic of there band being on fire or burning down? His lyrics only hint that their must have been terrible.

Nf has stated before that the music we hear from him is music that he's been working on for at least 3 years. His OCD works well for him.
I wonder if Nate gives tribute to his wife in videos as it seems like many times he intentionally flashes his wedding ring. A few examples: grabbing the apple with his left hand, holding his hand up after punching the wall, and in the When I Grow Up video he wipes his face at the end. Just something to think about.
I have just come across you, I watch reactions when I need cheering up and you are a gift! I absolutely love how into the music you get and how much you feel the lyrics. Music keeps me sane and NF has been a godsend for me. Him, Taylor Swift and Halsey all seem to see inside my head and I’d love if you did more reactions for the latter two artists. Halsey especially, her latest album is perfection and filled with lyrics you’d love to take apart and discuss. Love your channel, I can’t wait for NF to drop new music so I can watch your reactions.

I've watched sooooooo many reactions to this video. You'd be surprised how many people didn't understand the unbelievable bars. They just never made the connection. But the ones that hurt my heart the worst are the ones that gloss right over the wisdom teeth reference. It's so refreshing to see somebody actually pick up all the lyrics. Another great reaction.

Nate blew me away with this song. It was so much more positive and playful than usual! The references to the movie "Unbreakable" with Bruce Willis, the wisdom teeth one that you got and the "My heads in the clouds" from the Outcast song were all 🔥!!
My take on the changing scenery is him showing everyone how he fades to the background and people forget about him. Then he drops a song and causes complete CHAOS in the music industry! I love it! 😎 #NF
Oh - one note. I think he had been planning to drop the song "Lost" next. Remember him writing that at the end of Paid My Dues? Then CoVid hit, everything stopped and his next album went on hold. Thus the Mixtape.

Nothing wrong with taking advice but ultimately be yourself, if you think you have more to say then lengthen the video but if you don’t have much to say then shorten it . It’s best to get everything off your mind and chest in expressing how you feel about the song, and everything you have to say can teach us a lot .
My first guess at 429 when I first saw it was Ephesians 4:29. It fits because he doesn't cuss and is still fire (thus the house burning down). But it's also an internet reference like when a website crashes because too many people are going to it - he drops and fans instantly show up. I like the Ephesians 4:29 idea better, though :)

There's a video of the behind the scenes showing Nate walking along with the stunt drivers doing their thing. Not so shockingly, Nate's wife was terrified when they filmed it

This is a sequal to his song called "Outcast" from the Perception album... "I'm high off the music/my head's in the clouds/I kinda like it up here/I am not coming down" . According to Tommee Profitt, his best friend and co-producer, the muted part in the very beginning is him saying "Head in the clouds" but backwards, and I'm pretty sure that something was done with the speed too. That was clear to me when I put that clip into my audio editor and reversed it.

6:21 So in music production terms what your talking about here, we call "tension and release", a build of energy and then we come back down to a steady pace. The way NF raps he knows how to ride and make the most of those tension and release moments and make his flows more impactful! This is also why i love Tommee profit his producer as hes been his producer for a while he knows how he likes to rap and leave pockets and space for him to just go off! Tommee and NF fit together like a glove haha
