    Little about the salty milk tea, it's a practical choice due to Mongolia's harsh climate. The salt helps replenish electrolytes lost through sweating in the extreme cold, aiding in hydration. Additionally, the tea contains fat from the milk, which provides energy and helps combat the cold weather.
    Culturally, it's also a significant beverage in Mongolia. It's often served to guests as a sign of hospitality and is deeply ingrained in social customs, being enjoyed in both everyday life and during special occasions. The secret to make really good milk tea is to basically add more milk than the water for me :)) I randomly came across this video and thoroughly enjoyed this.

    Hi . Never thought I would see a Mongolian ration. Epic ! Even here in the UK , Sea Buckthorn is not readily available as it is foraged from coastal areas. Not a commercial crop .
    Unusual to see it as a drink.

      I was on a history youtube bender last night and for about three seconds my mind didn't click that this was the modern Mongolia and thought "holy shit the Mongol horde had MREs?".

      Try boil them in water and add some hefty amount of sugar in it and it would probably taste like what this packages would do.

    i am mongolian, and i must say, piece of toilet paper was hilarious. like i could totally see that in my minds eye. an elderly woman packing items in a bag and cuts off like four pieces of toilet roll hahahahahaha. anyways, other than that, all of the items are already commercially available. Combined, they will cost about 20 bucks not more. but then again, you shipped it all the way from Mongolia so extra probably went to shipping.

    Adding sugar to Mongolian milk tea is indeed a cardinal sin :P
    It is easy to make milk tea. It is usually cooked this way:
    1. Roast millet (or other kind of grains) in ghee.
    2. Add water and add tea leaves or pouch (green or black, Georgian green tea really popular)
    3. Bring to boil, and take out tea leaves or pouch
    4. Add equal parts or more whole milk.
    5. Bring to boil.
    6. Add salt.
    7. Drink.

    Great video. The Mongolian border protection ration I reviewed, wasn't split up into 4 packages like yours and some of my items were taken by customs 😞 I still can't get used to the taste of the milk tea, but overall a great ration. All the best 🙂👍

    I'm glad to see such a big smile on your face after trying everything that ration had to offer! 😁Though I was behind the camera when I did my review I'm pretty sure that I wore a similar expression...definitely one of the more interesting rations I've ever had.     Sea buckthorn is not only a food , but is used in the east for its medical properties for the skin , like rashes , etc. I have a buckthorn cream from Russia , it actually works well . The milk in Mongolia is primarily from horses . Goes back to nomadic times . Good find !

      The milk in Mongolia is primarily from cows man. Horse milk is very sweet and most people's even urban Mongolians stomach is not ready for the first time. It will give lot of running time to WC which would not be the ideal for all things military imo. Then when you ferment the horse milk there comes the good stuff.

      Oh yeah, horse milk can be acquired during summer time only except for few provinces so it makes it even more rare than cows milk

    What an interesting MRE. As you were reading over the contents of several of the entrees, I was taken back to my days in the military and traveling to various countries around the world while in the Navy. The food from third-world cultures can be off-putting if you do not keep an open mind. My buddies thought I was totally nuts because, no matter where we were, I would try the local cuisine. Some things were great, some were good, and others would elicit nightmares and bouts of digestonal distress. You don't know if you don't try. Great job, God bless brother.

    I’m surprised the mains got through. My last three overseas MRE’s were pilfered by customs. They kept all my mains claiming they violated some sort of pork and bovine meat law. No more foreign orders for me.

    Nice video, I've had British, American, Latvian and Dutch rations before but I've never had a Mongolian one. I love mre's, this looks like a good one especially for a horse meat lover like myself.

    It is pearl barley, a type of kasha - whole grains of barley. You should put that butter in your meals, this is what it is for, so they will not be so dry.

    The candle is actually a great idea. Candles are a great fire starter and survival tool. If it’s made of tallow (animal fat) the candle can also be eaten.

    I always watch Nathan or Steve do MREs. I just caught yours. I have a store in Cincinnati but it's like 4 hours away but I went there once called jungle Jim's. And they have the largest international store inside the place in the world I think or in the country. So I went cuz I was curious. They have almost every country in there. They could buy that type of food of those countries. So I think it was Germany and Russia. Maybe they had like patties. I was excited. Because watching. Steve all these years and the MREs So it was cool to buy those like the one you have and they were very very good. My girlfriend's daughter is in the Air Force and she got me a MRE so that was cool. Have been trying to look for some. But your video is pretty good so far. I believe this is the second video and not too bad

    The Candy Wrapper says Caramel in Mongolian; but @ 22:32 we see it's Hard Candy made from Cattle & Lamb Liver etc !
    IMO, the Butter can be used to flavor the blander Entrees.
    And those Heat Tabs with built-in Matches, are INGENIUS !

    The Mongolian that put that together seems to have a pretty solid understanding of good nutrition, especially for people under stress and heavy physical demand. Unlike the seed-oil forward soyslop of your more western rations.

    That made me hungry. I'll sometimes make Mongolian-like greasy rice and ginger meats for a hearty sweet and spicy flavor. Salted milk tea is a nice night time beverage.

    Very cool RR. Rare indeed! I love seeing different components. Breakfast main reminds me of Kasha. Canned sausage at lunch is different. Crispy bits are awesome in the kasha. By Dinner, I do see several duplicates, but that is common on most rations. Juice looks awesome. The milk I couldn't do, I'm lactose intolerant. All else would be fair game. Nicely done friend.     You could save an empty tin, add water, then place the tin to be cooked in it like a double boiler. It won't burn on the bottom..

    Triangle rice - that's probably buckwheat because buckwheat is shaped like three sided pyramids. Buckwheat is high in fiber and other nutrients, but it's low in calories and lower in protein than white wheat.

    100 Dollars (or even half of it, if the shipping was so expensive) is just a very high price for a 24 hour one soldier ration, especially when their BIP per person is less than a tenth of that in the US! It would be interesting to know, what it really would cost for the military!

    I'm not certain but I think Mongolia is very buddy buddy with Russia mostly due to Mongolia and china not getting along so they share a lot of military stuff and I would bet that that stove is the same stove from Russian rations

      Pretty much yeah mongolia was the second to go socialist right after russia they got embroyled in the civil war. Because because the white army was losing they falled back more east during this a part of the white army led by baron von ungern something something attacked the qing army remnants that had reoccupied mongolia after they crushed a rebellion in the country.
      They got beat when the whites came in Baron was pretty racist so he killed all the jews coming in from siberia then got booted by some mongolian soldiers he conscripted they werent very happy serving for a cause they didnt believe in,already homesick. After thag the bolsheviks came in with mongolian revolutianaries turned the country socialist in the moment the inner mongolians also tried to gain indepence but ultimately failed due the succesor after lenins death georgian dictator came in stopped it from happening fearing of a mass independence movement in central asia would sprout if he allowed inner mongolia to also declare independence then purged the monks A LOT of em a few years pass ww2 happens japans conquest westwards to china and other asian countries spread to mongolia via the satelite state of imperial japan called manchuria did some skirmishes between each other after it became a serious attempt at conquering mongolia for its natural minerals crutial in the war effort soviets saw what was happening deployed zhukov and an army capable of annexing a small african country they had more losses than the japs but it was more easily replacable with the railways available japs quit after realising it was a bad idea to fight russia and america both and gave up after the soviets refused to leave uhh then the sino soviet split happened with a lot history with the soviets now built up and fearing to end up like the inner mongolia the higher ups chose the ussr over china in retaliation the chinese stopped sending in workers and aid and prolly had an invasion plan for us, and from like early 1970s to 1990s the military hardware built to defend till a response could be made with the dissolution military bases, airfields were stripped from armaments and men then handed down to the mongolian government with no support from the soviet bloc and growing popularity of ridding communism the new government did the shock therapy thing where it was implemented very aggresively without planning we were kinda forgotten by the former allies and was forced to fend for ouselves the government rationed the state supply of food till the chinese borders opened and we could trade for food heard a story of a curnel or something bragging about how many kilos of ammunition he sold from already gutted military. Central planning was thrown out the window selling land to whoever had money till our city looked like a jungled mess oh and we abandoned those bases with a few mines and factories because lack of budget the ones that were left the big ones were privatised and now do shady stuff where tonnes on tonnes of coal money dissapear to thin air overall shitty country would not recommend to live in voters are elderly people who side with the old "mongolian peoples party" because of noatalgia and retirement find increases not really caring for the younger generations future the people in that party are corrupt most of em are older than the internet who stonewall any protest happening and call in the police making it an even bigger shithole of a place to live in
      Oh and the sewage system was made to accomadate 500'000 people at max theres 1.5 million people living in the capital so you can smell that stuff from a mile away, in winter times air becomes more smoke than actual air you would have a smokers lung at age 20 :) there used to be songs about how fresh the air was and how quiet the nights were both of em are gone second ones gone because of

    Yeah, the tea is often horse milk, "block" tea, and salt. Its not barley, its a low grade of "puck" tea that is traditional because it travels well... you just shave off the tea from the puck.

    You should try the Philippine Armed Forces MREs, i heard they are delicious n tasty. I just dont know where you can possibly get it but maybe there is someone from your subscribers who knows.

    Horse meat is great. It's like leaner beef that costs a third of the price of beef. I used to eat it often as a kid but than the horse meat scandal blew up and people stopped eating it and now it's hard to get.

    I'm guessing mare's milk, yak (or horse) roast, stone stuffed marmot, bear paws, camel yogurt, yak or camel jerky, curded camel milk, goat kabob's, steamed sheep meat and boiled intestines soup.

    Dude, the buter possibly belongs into the mongolian salted tea. That is mongolian way of drinking tea.
    And if you are cooking a can on flame, it helps to keep the lid on, after being open and cover the can up again.
    Yes, sugar do not belong into mongolian tea. It is not a mortal sin, only do not do it in mongolia, if you do not want the people to look weird on you.

    Every time I eat the main menu, I always only open the tip of the lid so that the steam from the heating process remains trapped, creating even heat rather than opening entire packaging cover...
