French Army MRE Review (RCIR) Combat Field Ration 24-HOUR 🇫🇷 Military of France Meal Ready To Eat

- I almost forgot how good the French RCIR is! The NATO approved RCIR or Individual Combat Ration is Frances' version of the Meal Ready To Eat. Unlike the MRE the RCIR contains enough food for a full 24 hours. This Pork Cheek Ravioli is about as close as you are going to get to gourmet food when it comes to a Military Ration Pack. The French Armed forces are eating dang good!

when a french MRE is healthier and more flavourful than any standard meal in the US...
And that's actually really great imo is that most things are from brands we actually buy in supermarkets here in France. Not high end but definitely way above average in terms of quality. Connétable for thé tuna, Andros for the jam Lipton for thé tea and so on. The m'en and women that risk their lives to protect pour country deserve to be treated well. And food is an absolutely important part of it
I'm in the Belgian army and we use the same MRE's, gotta say they're the best I've ever had!
You're supposed to melt the cheese, that's what "fondu" means, "melted." You heat it up then dunk your crackers into it and it's amazing.
Bad crackers.... "Tastes disgusting. Lets take another bite!" "I wouldn't feed this to my dog!" And eats more bites..... 😝 😆
I was thinking that and saw your comment lol.
Same!! LOL
Dedication.
Of course he will not give them to his dog he wants to keep them for him.. Such an hypocrite 🤣
He's a man a unshakable principle to say the least XD
The bayonet is the French M1874 Gras rifle Bayonet Dated 1879. The M1874 was replaced by the M1866 Chassepot design. It was replaced around 1867 and the M1866 had a broader blade that appeared like a sword if not attached to rifle. Socket bayonet for a .69 caliber smoothbore musket was the M1822 bayonet. It had a locking ring that encircled the muzzle. The same design as the model 1856 Enfield saber bayonet the Confederates used during the Civil War. Nothing like having Michelin 4 star meal out of a box. Some of the past French MRE's had a ration of wine with them.
nop it's a rosalie m1886
@@lapinmalin8626yep, c'est Rosalie, la "meilleure amie " du poilu de 14/18
The city of Bayonne invented the bayonet, the béret and chocolate. Not bad for a city of 50000 people.
@@Desi365 Not true for the béret, rooted in Bearn, (Aspe and Ossau valleys) not the Basque country...
Ever since steve1989 stopped posting regularly, ive been looking for a ration reviewer to fill that void. I actually find your format and descriptions dope. Plus i respect that you still try the questionable items as well 😂. Keep going bro
There both great. He's got a few new ones out. I also ended on this channel for the same reason.
Nice!
all the other ration reviewers i find annoying. for whatever reason. but yea this guy and steve do not just blah blah blah, readiness and steve say what needs to be said not just ugh this is bad. if the coffee is bad, yea i do not need to hear about it for 5 minutes. i mean, its ration coffee.
merci beaucoup Rations de préparation qui ont l'air vraiment super 🤣
15:57 That's "Pâte" not "Pâté", it's pronounced "pat" and it means dough or paste
I’ve used these a lot and while the quality is amazing the actual pack has drawbacks as follows
1. Once the plastic coating is removed the cardboard box perishes pretty quick especially if it comes in contact with moisture (which is inevitable for a grunt).
2. The weight. Most militaries have moved to retort or freeze dried pouches to save weight.
3. The shape is not conducive to ruck sacks/bergens. It’s rectangular for easy stacking in vehicles since most of the French army is motorised. The only French units that still do really long distance marches are the Legion.
4. the trash bag is so small as to be useless.
Delicious ration and review ! Man, you are brave, I lit once this Esbit stove at home and it was stinking two days
Haha, the smell was bad but my filming room is well ventilated. Thanks for Watching!!
@@ReadinessRations I recommend to not heat a Can of Food on a Stove since the are normally lined with Plastic on the inside to prevent corrosion with the Metal. Heat a Plastic is never a good think.
I love the French rations. Very nice review.
Great presentation. You never have to pause to say something, you display great knowledge/experience. New subscriber. Back before MRE's were issued to Army, it was quite common for troops to mix the instant hot chocolate and instant coffee, the creamer packet, and the sugar, and then drink it, or use a little less water, and make Ranger pudding, and eat it for dessert. However, even that never made the fruitcake edible
A first time watcher, excellent review!
Thanks for checking it out!
European and Asian foods are all natural and healthy, lets have a feast. Your time, feeling guilty IS OVER!
I absolutely love the Barre Commando cafe flavor. They're a bit on the waxy side, but very moorish. Not found one for a while now, I hope they still make them 👍
No, the new rations have cereal bars with coffein and a bar that comes close to the commando bars but it is not the exact same as the old version. Btw my rations were made in 2022
Nice french ww1 bayonet I have one of those my self just having a problem getting the rifle
tu as de la chance déjà d'avoir une baïonnette
Oh boy! Yeah those crackers are dang good fresh, but what the heck eh? Oh well, fantastic video, I loved it.
I’m no expert … and I’m sure a European can shed a little more light on it but I believe salad entrées are generally eaten room temperature but this particular one looks more like beef stew to be eaten hot. It’s a culture thing .. whereas I, an american prefer my deli/charcuterie meats cheese, most fruit and the occasional beer cold .. in some cases Ice cold.. A lot of main Europe eats and drinks their’s room temp…. I’m fairly sure
pork cheeks is hands down the worst thing you could habe in a french MRE ilke a fiend once sayed " if you give this to your dog, he'll bite you straight away and abandon himself on the side of the road "
Looks like a menu i would add to my emergency rations !
That was awesome
Australian CR1M is number 1 military ration in the world !!!
Cool, you maybe have the better army ration, better than your army...
Le monde ne semble pas d'accord avec toi.😉😉
Lebel rifle bayonet or berthier's, kinda similar
très belle baïonnette Rosalie
Complains that the crackers taste like ass, then proceeds to eat two more while complaining about them. SMH
Wouldn't feed these to my dog, then kept on eating 😂
Yep their crackers spoil way to fast. I believe they need a better wrapping. The RCIRs are among the best for sure.
Nobody is heating the cheese!!! It's fondu for God sake.
Yeah I don’t care what anyone else says I WOULD HEAT THAT SALAD UP TOO
I'm confused as to how you get all these rations? I'm in Canada, have tried ordering a Spanish MRE, a Czech MRE and a French MRE.
They never arrive, but I get a letter from Canadian customs about 6 weeks after I order it that says: "Illegal food item import REJECTED AT CUSTOMS and returned to sender".
Hey man, yeah it's a roll of the dice and US folks deal with this too (though they usually get what's left of the ration delivered, stripped of all items deemed illegal for import). If it's inspected in Canada, and contains certain meat items, it'll be sent back. If it's not inspected, it comes in. I typically order one ration at a time, or vegetarian options.
bayonet for Lebel or Berthier
By the way , look at his face at the end; This is the purpose of Ration : make PPL happy :)
I had that menu last year. The pork cheek ravioli was in date and sealed, but the cheese in the ravioli was rancid and I got one bite down, and it came right back up! The crackers had a heavy chemical flavor. That will be my last French ration. I think the Spanish rations are a better quality food and flavor. Love your reviews!
My RCIR got totally picked apart by US customs. Is there any way to get a European ration that is either already in the US, or will not be picked apart by customs?
Get a friend to send it and label it as gifts
Bayonet - seem like flintlock or musket bayonet. Definetly one-shoter.
Nope, baïonnette de fusil Lebel mle 1886 . Premier fusil au monde à utiliser la poudre sans fumée.
2022 though... 😅
mate, how cheerful are you? i love it.
Bro... no one else reviews rations like you... well except for Steve but hes like Seals team 6 or something and o ly.posts once a year 😂
Is that an M1886 bayonet?
Oh did you eat French 🐌 snails yet
I've had them not in a ration before lol
Literally the worst spoon I’ve ever seen in my life
What I find odd is your 24hr ration seems to be missing the white flag of surrender. Should have been right on top when opened for easy access.
🇫🇷1. 1115 battle won
🇬🇧2. 1105 battle won
🇺🇸3. 833 battle won
Nothings to add…
The last white flag i saw was in Kabul. It was yours. 😊
learn French history and you will be less stupid. Stop listening to clichés because we didn't want to fight with the US (besides, did you find the nuclear bombs???). and for your information we are the nation with the most victories in the world
French bashing comme d'habitude, on connaît la chanson😂
Va te faire en user grosse flotte anglo-saxonne
As someone who has eat many French ration and know some former French soldiers here’s what I can tell:
Breakfast : If you have the chocolate muesli then mix it with your hot chocolate, that way it takes less time to eat, for the crackers, use the cereal ones, not the salty ones or sweet ones (you keep those ones for snacks later during the day)
Lunch: make sure to mix the meal while it heats, you don’t want to have the bottom part burned, use the salty crackers for the canned food and if you are unlucky the cheese, if you ever get the creamy vanilla "pudding" you found gold you need to keep that one, it can be used for barter for more food with a other soldier or kept for desperate times, like when you mood is down… etc
Dinner : Here it depends if you have night duty but brew the coffee, the soup and take the energy bar (you are going to need it), hell some people sometimes would not use the hot chocolate the morning (and use tea) and mix it with the coffee for flavor and sugar to be kept awake.
During some war in the Middle East (don’t remember, too tired) one box of French MRE could be exchanged for 3 Spanish MRE or 6 US MRE.
No wonder they surrender so easily. Hahahaha.
@@frank-ko6dewe have a sheep here
@@captainbaguette5621 It seems we hit a nerve here, cry some more. Je se render. Hahahaha.
@@frank-ko6de just show how poor you’re cultured, just do some research and you will learn France have the most win in history and ww2 isn’t simple as ‘’oh they loose and surrender’’
Just show how much you learn by yourself and just say you saw on internet without proof so yeah you’re a sheep 🐑🤦🏾♂️
@@frank-ko6de Why are you being a c**t mate? If you do your research the French army has been one of the most effective through History.
"i wouldnt feed these to my dog" continues eating another whole cracker
You know I’ve always had a hard time understanding and appreciating a lot of French culture, but French cookery among the best in the world. They invented the modern culinary arts that dominate much of the world, and they are the kings of technique and quality ingredients. The fact that the French are able to take a challenging piece of meat like cheek and make a widely distributed military ration is a pretty insane concept that most countries would never be able to accomplish well using industrial food processing equipment. It’s really genius too because that’s an incredibly cheap and nutritious piece of meat that they’ll have a ton of access too. Most counties would just have to use those cuts mixed with others for patte type components at best.
And you haven't even tried the ration with ostrich meat and pasta. Very surprising. Some people believe decades from now we'll replace beef cattle with ostriches because the ratio cost/nutritional benefits is so much in favor of the birds. And it's surprisingly tasty.
Out of all the combat MREs , the French ones have always been the best . Ours have always been the worst . Even Russian ones are better . Ever see a WW1 French army canteen ? It was a double canteen , with two spouts . One side was for water , the other side for wine . Pretty cool actually .
Connétable is a premium brand in France. It's available in every store in France. They make in my opinion the best canned fish, especially the sardines - those in olive oil are my favorite. It's quite expensive though. Sardines are even served in restaurant from the can - I mean they set the can in the plate, with bread and butter... it's absolute delight.
connetable is definetly high end but also way overpriced, you can pay half or less and get some pretty decent tuna. army doesn't pay retail price , so it's an obvious choice for them
Pas des raviolis des RAVIOLES !!!! Raviolis c'est italien, Raviole c'est FRANCAIS Mossieur !!!!
the nougat is actually my favourite part but yeah it tends go bad really fast as it's a natural recipe with no preservatives (besides sugar itself) .
I wouldn't feed these to my dog, (continues eating them) haha I love this channel
"All Quiet In The Western Front" They made French military food gourmet and so freaking delicious. I wanna recreate what they were eating someday. They had a lot of jar of sauces and some kind of berry where they dipped bread with. It just looked so delicious. If you watch the eating scene in that movie, you would agree too.

Bon appétit !
French MoD has made army food a priority (quality, energy and moral).
Not a restaurant, no beer or wine but good.
MX3 is famous for expedition and sport. It’s quality and propose food for survival too.
100 % made in France.

Excellent review! The Europe 24 hours rations are outstanding! Like #28. Blessings 🙏🏼👍🏼
Your cheese is meant to be heated hence the fondu part. How can you give a review of food that is out of date?
I've got quite the collection of RCIRs. About 18 with 3 being the rare Ostrich in Cranberry Sauce. Plus a stack of the 300g mains which back in the day you could order them separately from various vendors without customs interference.
I always love your reviews. Not biased at all and honest. Again, your cheerful narrative and excitement always seems to steal the show. Keep it up. Many blessings from Canada.
There are so many things you could do with that little plastic spork;
including gasoline, and diesel fuel! o_o

just dip nouggat in your hot tea.. it'll melt like cheese .. all about growing up.. nouggats is a safe feel and thick filling .. we love it here ;)
I get a kick out of your reviews!
Great job!
I’m a U.S. Marine. Most of the accessories would be stuffed in your pocket to eat along the way. The main would be eaten when you have time to stop.
If you are not supposed to heat the beaf salad up, why does the heating kit have six heat pucks? You aren't preparing meals for the commenters! Your eating it, eat it how you want!
French MRE is probably the best in the world. It's level 1. On level 2 are Danish and Polish MRE.
This kind of baillonette is called a "rosalie" due to its shape.. The thin shape as a star would the wounded to heal quickly on the surface but not in the inside therefore allow infections to spread and leaving almost no chance to survive.
I like your content..so far. Not as good as steve..I'm sure you know him. But I'll watch. Your voice is a little strange tho. Lol
bonjour il faut savoir que le service des armée a fait élaboré les menus et ration par des grand chef de la gastronomie française au nombre de 12 menus différent je crois . amitiés de France
Great review as always mate, its a shame about your biscuits. The French ones are some of the best in any ration imo but when they go bad oh boy do they go bad lol
In the tuna can it is not oily it sauce name a l’escabeche. Only a few drops of oil that’s all.
Je uis français nougat is not chimic
Who the frick puts water in there müesli? U put milk in it
You were supposed to fold the handle .
Why so much water in the coffee !?!
Coming in late. Love the French Rcir's!!! Yes...crackers get a bit sour making jam a necessity. The best tasting in my opinion! Hope you are doing well buddy!
I had the 9ld 9nes during my tour of duty. Eat them.... almost 20 years later 😂 still the same piece of nutritive brick 😂 but still good
Your videos are great, but need to be shorter! 😏

French Rosalie bayonet mle 1886
Used on the Lebel
it was "banned" during the WW1 because it caused injuries that were too violent
Bingo!
It has a triangular cross-section. I believe the Germans lodged a complaint in the Hague, like they did with the American 'trench sweeper' shotgun.

the shape of the blade is cross

Okay, so I love watching videos like this. Ration packs are awesome and I like to find videos that help me find the next ones to try, but normally the part of the video that I HATE is where people chew... It makes me feel physically sick every time! but you good sir!! are a fucking LEGEND! the way you clip the viewing parts out so much so I get a good video without being repulsed is AMAZING!!! Please keep it up!!
Those are protein crytals, and that means its a very good cheese.
You continuing to eat the crackers had me cackling! “These are disgusting!” *bite* “I wouldn’t have to suffer through the disgusting experience of eating these things” *bite again* 😂😂

You forgot to mention the chansonier that comes with every ration. Yours was out of date, so he moved on, i reckon😂❤🇫🇷🇩🇪🇺🇸
I feel like in a real life situation, you could stretch all of that food for a few days? Maybe someone with some military experience can confirm.
I always like seeing the differing ration meal options; I'd smash some pork cheeks! Wait...
