Any ideas on a monitor that slowly faded to black after the machine was powered on. Slowly faded and faded till nothing...thansk in advance for any tips. Its on a cruisn world original cab.
My CRT monitor on my cabinet went off but when I fired it up on the weekend the CRT fired up, perfectly, for about 30 seconds until I pressed the gas pedal to start the game and it went off again. No orange light, but I'm guessing it's still a connection issue.
@@moomert1 Woah that was fast! I can't tell because the shut off is in the back of the cabinet so I can't reach it alone and then get back in front to look for the collapse. I do know exactly what you're talking about. Maybe I should get a friend to come over and check?
I have a SFR and the monitor has been acting up. It was color then it went b&w, then it was purple...now the newest thing is in the middle of a game it shuts down and restarts...any advice for a fellow s.f.rusher? Thanks
That sounds like the monitor is ready to really crap out. You probably need the chassis to be rebuilt. When the monitor shuts down and restarts, can you still hear the game playing while the monitor shuts off, or does your entire cabinet shut down. If by some chance the issue is not the chassis, verify your jamma harness is securely connected to the chassis and verify that you black, white power wires are securely connected the chassis.
My Makvision 25" has a VGA cable on it but cable with a VGA to 10 pin CGA adaptor, but all the jamma harnesses I see have a 5 pin video connector, how do I connect this to my JAMMA harness?
Can I get a link? I think I've figured out that I need to jump the sync wire from the harness and split it to the H Sync and V Sync terminals on my adapter.
I have the exact same problem with my monitor not turning on, probably due to a disconnection in shipping. I tried your tip in adjusting the board behind the neck tube, but the glowing light, as well as the picture, still won't come on. Any ideas?
I believe so. There are some black and white wires that connect from the chassis all the way to the back of the monitor board, but I have another set of black and white wires that go into a square inline connector, which is not attached to anything else (it hangs from about the center of the cabinet. Sound is working great.
FYI, if the tungsten filaments aren't glowing (the orange glow), it could be a conductor issue or the filament could've blown or shorted. It takes a lot longer for a CRT filament to burn out than a light bulb because of the 6.3v running through the filament, instead of 120/240VAC in a light blub, but it does happen.
Im having an issue just like your video (0:56) and i just move it here (to my house) but i cant get it to work :( what should i do ?? how do you move that board ?
When the CRT loses the intensity of the red gun, it is usually because of age. The red cathode is usually the first to go. However, when it stops working after you've fidled with it, that is usually because of a loose conductor (wire). I had the same issue with my Sony CRT television when I completely pulled it apart for a service/clean. I just disconnected and re-connected all the cables. Problem solved.
Maybe cleaning the oxidation off connectors is a more future proof way than just wiggle the neckboard a little. Making sure it stays there is a good way not to have the problem again - after cleaning the oxidation off. Use proper connectors and cable ties and cable won't fall out... They should be able to get moved without these things happening. Great video, not a bunch of babbling like other videos of people explaining stuff. ;-)
Hi there, I enjoy your videos. They have been helpful. I just bought a NEO GEO 2 slot upright cab that has a 4 slot board in it. It recently started to make a ticking/arcing noise on initial power up, then after its warmed up it goes away and stays that way until it has been powered down for a while. I do think its a grounding issue on the chassis, particularly the flyback. Any recommendations on what I can do to fix this. Thanks
My recommendation would be to send the chassis out for repair. I am no monitor expert. However there are people on the KLOV forums who do chassis repairs. The issue is only going to get worse.
Im having an issue occasionally once every blue moon the monitor will go dark. Restarting the machine fixes it temporarily. Sometimes its weeks to do it again or an hour or 20 minutes. Any idea whats going on? Thanks in advance
+moomert1 thanks for the fast reply. The whole thing was recapped and resoldered less than a year ago. hmm could it be anything else? it rarely goes dark but it has been tonite for the first time in 6 months.
+moomert1 by the way your video helped me trouble shoot an issue i was having with a red haze over the screen. The RGB connection was loose. i fiddled with it and fixed it. Now only for this dark issue.

Thanks for the video. My monitor is actually having the exact problem you mentioned towards the end of the video (dark, dull color, namely a distinct lack of red). I checked to make sure the red cable was connected and fastened securely, and I'm still having the same problem. It all started when a cat jumped inside and took out the neck board on my crt. What can you do to fix a game that starts up fine and has been shipped but comes to a white blank screen? I pushed the chips and it was working before recently. Thanks.
When you turn your monitor off, does the picture collapse down to a tiny green dot in the center of the monitor? If so....your monitor will most likely give out soon. You will need to get the monitor serviced.
I also have a mega touch gaming system and have came across an issue with it. When I turn the system on it goes through all its start-up stuff and then it stops on a black screen that gives me two options. F1-to continue or f2- to set up. I have opened up the back of the game and cant seem to find either of these buttons to hit. Do you have a solution to this?
do you know where in the back or where to look to plug in the keyboard at. There's a lot of stuff back there and new at doing something like this. I really appreciate all your help too.
Just want to add that if anyone has very little experience or indeed no experience with adjusting monitor I suggest that you be very very careful because their are very high voltages at the back of the monitor !!!!!!!! especially around the high tension lead.. not knocking your video,I love your videos but just had to make my point. with working with arcade machines for many years myself I know all about getting shocked :)
Just curious... My MVS has this exact problem where the Red went out. I figured it may be a simple issue like what you showed, but my monitor is slightly different. I didn't have just the red as a single wire, it's a harness that connects all three colors. Then it connects to another quick connect and then into the harness that leads to the MVS motherboard. I've reseeded all of the connectors and I'm getting no red still. Do you have any ideas? Here I have a different board hooked up but still the same issue. th-cam.com/video/DMXE1zw5j5U/w-d-xo.html
+DarakuTenshi what you can do is slightly push down on the area where the wires connect to the chassis on your monitor. Do this while the game is on. Just push lightly the plastic connector which holds the wires. If you notice the color comes back on, and then goes away when you release pressure, that would most likely mean you have some solder on your chassis which needs to be reflowed.

@@fubar-jp1rz first search craigslist. If nothing pops up, or there is nobody near your area, the next thing you will need to do is learn how to discharge a monitor and then remove the chassis. There are still some places that will repair the chassis for you. Discharging the monitor is a whole new ball game. If not done correctly, you can give yourself and pretty hefty shock. Kids Arcade Room without knowing first hand what's going on, I would suggest an arcade tech or monitor replacement. Sound like there might be an electric arc being made.
please for the love of god do not replace your monitor with an lcd panel of any sort. they are ugly, cause input delay, and fail to produce the type of quality image that crts provide. these games were made with crt monitors in mind. it sounds like the electrolytic capacitors on your crt board are dry. you can easily find cap kits online on many different arcade repair sites. if you possess old arcade hardware, your job is to refurbish it not replace or "improve" it. these items need to be preserved.
My screen started clicking and turning on and off. Yes, it was after I just moved into a new house. Then it just went dark. Still has sound. Just no picture. Is that clicking sound what happens when that neck board comes loose?
moomert1 I can’t really feel the screen. There is a plastic cover over the top. I will try to the board. Wish me luck. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for your help.
I see the orange glow. Screen doesn’t feel on. No static. I can also hear that high pitched sound when it’s on. The same sound you were when the old TVs were on. Just no picture. ???
So its blurry for 20 minutes and then the picture is clear? Sounds like cold / broken sodder on the chassis. Or perhaps its the monitor flyback. If thats the case, you will need an arcade tech to fix it....thats assuming you have no experiance with an arcade chassis. Is the picture blurry or scrambled?
Yeah that's correct. It clears up after approx 20 mins and iv also noticed depending on how long the machine has been powered OFF for changes how blurry the picture is when turned on. Longer time it's been off it is more blurry
OK...I've been mess in around with it and I got the restarting issue taken care of. Like you said, the power supply was a bit out of sorts...now its going from b/w, then to green, then to purple, but there's no change from purple until I restart the system. Also every 45ish seconds or so it has a static discharge that I can hear and see in the picture...
Hmmm, I would check to make sure the monitor is properly wired to the jamma harness and check to make sure the monitor is properly wired to its black, white power wires. Its hard to say what your issue could be. However I would think the chassis needs a cap kit. Maybe the flyback also needs to be replaced.

You should be very careful, and warn people about messing about with CRTs. There's a conductive graphite coating on the tube (called an "aquadag"), which is live with electricity and may paralyse or kill you. And never, ever touch anywhere near the anode cap.
I've seen plenty of arcade machines that have one color missing on the monitor. Sadly, most machines these days are very poorly maintained, and even if you tell the staff they won't do anything about it... I also saw a Donkey Kong tabletop with a dead screen (but you could hear the game playing). In this case the neckboard was loose and needed pushing back in, just like your video.
Well first you Might want to consider the HappyFish version 2 board. It's actually a pretty good board with the exception of CPS1 games. MAME really doesn't take much to run. I would just recommend something with 40-50 gb or storage and at the very least a dual processor. I said, doesn't take much. I even ran MAME off an old laptop/tablet combo
Hmmm that sounds more like a pcb issue rather than a monitor issue. I would first check the power supply. It could be that the power supply is giving out or maybe it just needs to be adjusted.

Hey what kind of interchangeable cartridge deal do you have in your arcade? That is pretty cool if you can just swap games without having to change boards.
That's the Neo Geo MVS arcade hardware.
Any ideas on a monitor that slowly faded to black after the machine was powered on. Slowly faded and faded till nothing...thansk in advance for any tips. Its on a cruisn world original cab.
Cyphertribe Collective most likely you need a cap kit. could be some cold solder on the chassis
My CRT monitor on my cabinet went off but when I fired it up on the weekend the CRT fired up, perfectly, for about 30 seconds until I pressed the gas pedal to start the game and it went off again. No orange light, but I'm guessing it's still a connection issue.
When you turn off the game, does the picture "collapse" down to a "dot" in the middle?
@@moomert1 Woah that was fast! I can't tell because the shut off is in the back of the cabinet so I can't reach it alone and then get back in front to look for the collapse. I do know exactly what you're talking about. Maybe I should get a friend to come over and check?
@@mattblom3990 basically this.....at the 4min 17 second mark till the end

Maximilian Schmidt I have another video which shows you exactly how to install the wires
Can I get a link? I think I've figured out that I need to jump the sync wire from the harness and split it to the H Sync and V Sync terminals on my adapter.
Maximilian Schmidt pretty sure it's this one

Thanks!!!
I have the exact same problem with my monitor not turning on, probably due to a disconnection in shipping. I tried your tip in adjusting the board behind the neck tube, but the glowing light, as well as the picture, still won't come on. Any ideas?
RockTheClock247 your power cable to the monitor hooked up....the cable from the chassis. can you hear the game playing?
I believe so. There are some black and white wires that connect from the chassis all the way to the back of the monitor board, but I have another set of black and white wires that go into a square inline connector, which is not attached to anything else (it hangs from about the center of the cabinet. Sound is working great.
RockTheClock247 I would need to see pictures. can you post a video online
Great video. Helped me a LOT!
pogo8bit glad my video could help you.
anyone no what would cause the picture on my ms pac man cocktail table to slightly wobble? i cant figure it out
I have a area 51 arcade I moved it now I don't have a picture or sound just lights. What could it be
Check all connections to pcb and power supply
FYI, if the tungsten filaments aren't glowing (the orange glow), it could be a conductor issue or the filament could've blown or shorted. It takes a lot longer for a CRT filament to burn out than a light bulb because of the 6.3v running through the filament, instead of 120/240VAC in a light blub, but it does happen.
My orange light went out what do you think it can be I did what the video said it doesn’t work
Im having an issue just like your video (0:56) and i just move it here (to my house) but i cant get it to work :( what should i do ?? how do you move that board ?
slightly press the neck board towards the monitor
slightly press the neck board towards the monitor
+moomert1 i try but it's not working but i did find a Ground Wires out side it and its big where could that go? and thnx a lot btw for the help
+xXGoliathXxPs3 does the monitor go on at all? does the neck tube have an orange light when powered on?
+moomert1 no
When the CRT loses the intensity of the red gun, it is usually because of age.
Great video, not a bunch of babbling like other videos of people explaining stuff. ;-)
e5frog The sound on my game works but I’m getting no picture and when I wiggled that board that he told me to wiggle nothings happening I need help
Thanks in advance
assuming all your connections are secure, you may either need a cap kit or you have some cold solder that needs a reflow someplace on the chassis
+smokeyvv have you checked to make sure it's not the game board itself?
I have a konami devastators game that turns on and the screen is all white and there is no game sound. Any suggestions?
Check the voltage on the power supply
Ok thanks
@Jugo Games if you have another jamma board, install it and see if the issue I'd the MK board. Verify your voltages.
ANY ADVICE? I got the orange light in the back but the screen lights up blue with orange static lines.
Which game? Was it working before?
moomert1 buster bros 1989. I bought it today for $50 knowing it wasn't working. He told me it was working until he moved it into his shed.
No sound either
@@DontLuvTy first thing I would do is disconnect the jamma harness and clean the pcb board. Make sure there is no dirt and dust where the jamma harness connects
moomert1 any specific way to disconnect the jamma harness? just pull it off? I don't want to break anything
did you move the neck tube with it plugged up to make the tube light up I thought this would light you up ?
I did not touch the neck tube. I touched the neck tube board. If I am supposed to get zapped, it has never happened and I have done this on multiple monitors
Is there anything else I should look out for that may have gotten knocked lose? It worked perfectly before the bastard went in there. Thanks!
My vga arcade monitor suddenly shows an icon of a disconneted plug or tomething. Also is makes a noise it didn't make before. I swapped boards out and no difference. Also disconnected the vga plug and no difference. I also cannot use the monitor menu. What can this be?
probably the chassis needs a repair of sorts. is the adjustment board securely attached to the chassis?
What can you do to fix a game that starts up fine and has been shipped but comes to a white blank screen? I pushed the chips and it was working before recently. Thanks.
Can you hear the game playing?
No. It loads up fine. Blank screen with no sound
+uniroyalbarrie check to make sure the jamma harness is firmly applied to the pcb. what game is it?
It's a Super Off Roab cabaret. Thanks.
I pushed something in that connected to the pcb. It worked. Thanks.
I have a green vertical stripe in the center of my monitor. how do I fix this ? it's on a crusin world game.
I believe you need to plug in a keyboard prior to start up. if you can't see a USB port, look for a ps2 keyboard port.
do you know where in the back or where to look to plug in the keyboard at. There's a lot of stuff back there and new at doing something like this. I really appreciate all your help too.
is there anyway I could email some pictures of the back to you and you could tell me where.
+Jeff R look on the actual pcb board. I believe the keyboard input is on there
check out my video on megatouch XL boot problems with fixes. I think it'll help you out
Just want to add that if anyone has very little experience or indeed no experience with adjusting monitor I suggest that you be very very careful because their are very high voltages at the back of the monitor !!!!!!!! especially around the high tension lead.. not knocking your video,I love your videos but just had to make my point. with working with arcade machines for many years myself I know all about getting shocked :)
All experience is appreciated when it comes to the arcade hobby
Wow love it!
Thanks I'll try that.
What does it mean if I don’t see the orange light? Thanks for any help you can provide, it’s greatly appreciated.
simply put....your monitor needs to be looked at by a pro. Does it at least power on?
@@moomert1 The picture was very blurry, then after about nine holes of golden tee it would freeze, but you could still hear the game, now when you turn it on, you can hear the game playing, but the monitor is black. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed the orange light in the glass tube before, even when it had a bad picture.
I just bought this unit and it has been sitting for a few years.
This all happens in the last week since I’ve bought it. Thank you for your reply.
@@moomert1 I’d like to keep it original. So I’m hoping I can get the monitor fixed. Would a bad video card cause the monitor to not work and the orange light to go out?
I tried connecting a monitor via VGA cable directly to the video card, but it does not recognize the formate. Is there something else I’d need to do to see if the video card is the issue?
@@phillanzarotta5513 Is it a CRT monitor? The glow could be very low. Might want to check for that. What size is the monitor?
Yes I made adjustments while the monitor was on. As long as you only touch what I talked about in the video, you should be okay.
I have a buck hunter 2 game with a medium resolution neotec monitor and it doesnt always turn on but if I sit there and unplug and plug in the cabinet eventually the screen will come on. Everything works perfect once it's going but as soon as I unplug it I have to plug and unplug it a bunch of times again. Once I get the screen to come on it'll work perfectly even if I use the little tube control board to turn off the tv off it will come on and still works. I have a glow in the bulb although doesnt look as bright as yours in this video. Appreciate any help you can give me thank you.
The chassis needs to be looked at by a tech. Could need a recap or re-soldering.
@@moomert1 thanks what's the best way to find a tech near me? I don't think there are any, I live in the middle of no where in iowa
Other alternatives are to just buy a new monitor. Suzo Happ has a brand new 27inch Tri Sync monitor on sale for $495.00. Yes its expensive..........but it will be new and you really wont have to worry about anything.
I just got a tekken 4 arcade game. All the sound works, i can put in a quarter and lets me select characters but i can't see the screen. Its not completely blind like this one tho, its got black lines that go across the screen and go up and down fast. but if its on long enuff you can sometimes see the picture behind the black lines. Do u think u might no the problem?
Anthony Garofalo sounds like a sync issue. Check the sync wire that goes to your monitor. Or if your monitor has an adjustment board....slowly move the knob which is for sync.....if it has one.
I just got a mk1 arcade game all the sound works i can out in a quarter and let's me select fighters but i can't see the screen it's not completely blind like this one tho it's for red lines that go across the screen and go up and down fast but if it's in long enuff you can sometimes see the picture behind the red lines. I just got a zaxxon & the monitor wasnt working so I tried one from another game in it & the colors were all messed up & yep I adjusted everything I could for 2 hours no better, then I found that I had one of the connecotors one spot off put that in the right place all ok now. now I gotta fix the other monitor. Its not getting filimat power. 112v in is ok.
My monitor is making a electric sound showing No picture just a white flashing light as it make that awful noise looking for any advice
Kids Arcade Room without knowing first hand what's going on, I would suggest an arcade tech or monitor replacement. Sound like there might be an electric arc being made.
moomert1 I have a monitor I was going to take out of my other arcade game and replace it
moomert1 how do you convert these over to HD monitor
Kids Arcade Room there are cga to vga convertors.
please for the love of god do not replace your monitor with an lcd panel of any sort. they are ugly, cause input delay, and fail to produce the type of quality image that crts provide. these games were made with crt monitors in mind.
it sounds like the electrolytic capacitors on your crt board are dry. you can easily find cap kits online on many different arcade repair sites.
if you possess old arcade hardware, your job is to refurbish it not replace or "improve" it. these items need to be preserved.
thanks, going to check the monitor board on mine now
My screen started clicking and turning on and off. Yes, it was after I just moved into a new house. Then it just went dark. Still has sound. Just no picture. Is that clicking sound what happens when that neck board comes loose?
Brad W does the neck tube have an orange glow?
moomert1 no
Brad W with monitor on, place hand near screen.....can you feel that it's on? If so, see if neckboard came loose.
moomert1 I can’t really feel the screen.

do u have something in mind that could help me?
My picture is blurry for the first 15-20 mins on power up?
So its blurry for 20 minutes and then the picture is clear? Sounds like cold / broken sodder on the chassis. Or perhaps its the monitor flyback. If thats the case, you will need an arcade tech to fix it....thats assuming you have no experiance with an arcade chassis.
Is the picture blurry or scrambled?
Yeah that's correct. It clears up after approx 20 mins and iv also noticed depending on how long the machine has been powered OFF for changes how blurry the picture is when turned on. Longer time it's been off it is more blurry
*****
what game are you playing? Have you tried a different game board to verify your issue is not hte pcb?
Oh and yeah blurry, not scrambled
*****
yeah I am thinking a cold sodder joint somewhere on the chassis.
Maybe the flyback also needs to be replaced.
moomert , my monitor is weird , the upper right corner is having a weird tint color ,its not the screen itself but its the graphic , backgroun stayt eh same but whatever characters or fonts appears purple or blue or sometime greenish yellow , it hapends to all my boards
sounds like it's a degause issue.yoy should post a vid
+moomert1 ok ill try ans sens u , thank u so much
that is it! i googled it , how can i fix it? do u think i should get a tool or get a new screen? thanks
+gomgomboy I would try to get a tool since it's cheaper. depending on what game you have, a new screen is also an option.
moomert1 ok so im waiting for the tool as i gonna try to fix it , moomert do u know how to wire free coin button? like straight from the harness because i removed my coin doors and i can not find information online , i know i can attach the wire from the coin door position but now that it is completely out i tried wiring them and its not working , now all my buttons are not working at all since i cant actvate the credits , thanks again
How can I focus it
@rayortiz6367 try the monitor control board. Usually under the control panel or near coin door. Assuming your monitor has one.
Thank you sir. I fixed it. The repair guy said 150 just to see it. Fuck that and thanks again.
Glad my video could help.
You should be very careful, and warn people about messing about with CRTs. There's a conductive graphite coating on the tube (called an "aquadag"), which is live with electricity and may paralyse or kill you. And never, ever touch anywhere near the anode cap.
My screen zoomed in. What do I do.
As in the picture enlarged?
great video
thank you for the kind words
I've seen plenty of arcade machines that have one color missing on the monitor. Sadly, most machines these days are very poorly maintained, and even if you tell the staff they won't do anything about it... I also saw a Donkey Kong tabletop with a dead screen (but you could hear the game playing). In this case the neckboard was loose and needed pushing back in, just like your video.
my pac man monitor is green when you turn it on does anyone know what the problem could be?
Is there a way to email you>??
burtmanindustries only through messages via youtube.
thanks for the help
Well first you Might want to consider the HappyFish version 2 board. It's actually a pretty good board with the exception of CPS1 games.
MAME really doesn't take much to run. I would just recommend something with 40-50 gb or storage and at the very least a dual processor. I said, doesn't take much. I even ran MAME off an old laptop/tablet combo
Cool
glas my video was able to help you.
I am having a monitor issue right now, maybe you could look at my latest video and tell me what you think?
The whole system restarts and goes through the system test...
Hmmm that sounds more like a pcb issue rather than a monitor issue. I would first check the power supply. It could be that the power supply is giving out or maybe it just needs to be adjusted.
I hate paying techs.
Anyone here in 2021
hehaha, you really hate arcade techs lol.
I just plugged my MS8-26SG straight to the wall outlet, I saw a big spark and then quickly disconnect it - what have I damaged? I got impatient, first time setting up an arcade monitor. Please help!!!
It could be anything. Do you see any damage? you may need to call an arcade tech
I havent looked back there since yesterday, I would like to know first if there's any danger by just touching the machine (it's an all metal cabinet, candy cab). I'm worried because my little niece loves to play around the cab, thats my main concern now. If its safe to take a look inside, I'll see if theres some visible damage. Thanks for helping moomert1
+Shao Kahn you should be fine. make sure it's unplugged. the monitor will still hold a charge but you should be fine. take a look at my video titled how to remove an arcade monitor. that should be able to answer some of your questions
+moomert1 thanks moomert, I really appreciate the time you take for helping noobs like me. Today I took some pictures of the chassis, even if I still dont remove it from inside the cab. If you are ok with this, I can send you the link so you can have a look
+Shao Kahn sure send me the link in a private message.
