Agree. When drawing cartoon, especially based on the technology few decades ago, simplicity will make the artists' lives easier. However the simplicity & lack of details on the toys itself doesn't make the toys look like master piece...
It's a great figure. The only thing I can say against it is the second grill used for robot mode. I have no rational basis for this but I wish more of these nice Optimuses used the same grill in vehicle mode. Totally understanding that's not the most practical for getting a robot mode that looks show accurate 😅
This is a good cartoon accurate version of Optimus Prime too. While it is true that this figure has a lot more detail that the cartoon character (just my opinion), it does not detract from it either.
The problem I have with the cartoon-accurate MPs (I'm talking purely about Takara Tomy's) is that too many sacrifices were made to achieve it. You know what I'm on about. I miss the days when MPs were like Soundwave, Prowl, Lambor, etc.
