People shouldn’t finance a car unless they have money tied up in other places to pay the loan if the worst happens, i have a facelift rs7 bought from audi, 28k deposit, and i pay £571 per month, and in still in my 20’s, but worst came to worst and i lost my job and everything fell on its arse i have money in property, and also a savings account to pay the car off and not worry, but yeah your right, people that cant do that are constantly walking on egg shells, if you cant afford it dont buy it, thats how the uk is so fucked already

@@joshcherry9272 It's not unusual to have a Mitsubishi dealer not know a great deal about what they're selling, especially when the Evo VIII isn't a recent model. From a technical standpoint all Evos are imports with the exception of the Evo VIII 260 & I think the Evo X, these two were homologated for Europe. All other Evos went through SVA ( single vehicle approval ) just like any other imported car from Japan.
I believe this is a Evo 8 gsr or what some people call a fq 280 as they usually start with wx on the reg plate like yours does which means it was registered in Bristol originally, but this also means the car has been in this country from new in 2004, I don’t think this model got the hks parts put on it by ralliart that was for the fq300 and the fq330 and mr models, also that top intercooler pipe is not correct for a fq model, looks a nice low owner car which is more important as you going to modify it anyway, but after owning lots of Evos check the drivers rear chassis leg lay directly underneath the car and look at it they all seem to develop a rust hole in the middle of it at some point in there lives, also check the plugs in the passenger footwell as water gets in from the arch runs down the wire and rusts the plugs inside many cars have caught fire from this.
All FQ's are UK cars, Lee. Ralliart imported them from new but registered them as UK cars. So technically, yes it is an import (because that was the only way Ralliart could get them in this country) but they are registered as UK cars. Meaning Ralliart also changed the clocks over from new etc. The MLR has all the information you need. The best forum I've been on by miles.

Reason I ask is because I've been told that the Evo is one of the few cars that comes close to the thrill of riding a bike, so was wondering what your thoughts were on that? I can pick up a stupidly quick bike for 2 grand at most which is a fair bit less than an Evo, but then the Evo is also considerably less than something modern that's "fun".

@itsleelockwood It's not an "FQ" ting, It's an "MR" thing with the Mitsubishi Racing options you get a 6speed gearbox and other bits. Every evo 8/9 is a FQ from 280 - 400

Great purchase Lee, my old car I had it from 5months old WX54 LFK an FQ340 MR was mapped to 410/380 back in 2006 and was very reliable so son’t worry. I never had any probs at all. I hardly used it and sold it with about 14k miles after 10 years of owning it.
FQ was always in the UK it was tuned and built there, 8 gsr and 8mr both 6speed factory 8mr is the standard evo fq picked to build off 8Rs is the 5spd australia also have a 8 adm only 5 speed, that intercooler is also standard core only the intercooler piping is hks which is rated to 350whp. The exhaust is a jasma certified exhaust so it wont make you much power since part of it is 2.5" then 2.75" in other places two exhausts u want tomei expreme 3" or a lamspeed 3" nice buy man i honestly prefer the older models but ct9a 7-8-9 are good cars you will enjoy it fq320 fq340 dont have huge differences over the stock 8mr

Not sure there’s such a thing as an fq 280. What you’ve got there is a gsr 300 that someone has put the hks stuff on and what looks like the Evo 9 fq wheels and spoiler. If you want any evo info sign up to the mlr With a remap, fuel pump, decat you should get 370 easy. If you can get the bigger mr turbo you could poss get 400. Lightened/balanced flywheel is good mod too.
Love the Evo. Looking forwards to hearing the maintenance costs. I do have one gripe though. This isn’t the first car you’ve had with Aircon. The Fiesta ST had aircon :) Keep up the good work. Maybe interesting to compare this with my Mk3 FRS

My R32 Skyline is an import, it also has 93k miles, it was also around the same price, and the same displacement, but 2 less doors rip. Edit: My car also had a JDM HKS exhaust, found out later on they have pretty strict volume laws in Japan so they have their exhausts pretty well balanced for sound/volume.

Don’t go silly with the wrap colour, just make it a standard colour like black and stealth it or something, they get ruined when you slap a silly colour on them

Hi, lovin the evo. Hope its been properly undersealed since its an import. My mate has a fq and the underside is a little worst for wear as it wasnt sealed for uk roads.

Hey, The car is not an import, it is a fq series that was only sold in the UK, Japan doesn't have the fq series. Fq series and import don't go together as they were only sold in uk
"Evo's make you poor!" I had that on the back of my black VIII GSR running 390hp. Sold it to a jock two weeks before they announced they weren't importing any more to the uk gutted. Really want another sad times 😢😭 ps TRL designs always looked after me and my mate. Keep up the Evo work!
You already have the hardware to get a remap to an easy reliable 350hp on pump fuel. Can you get e85 in the UK? Something to consider is changing to evo 9 front and rear bars
So I contacted GreenLight insurance. They straight up told me that there is no way that I can get insured on an EVO 8 as I'm under 25. How is it that you got insured on one at 23? Cheers.
Thats a UK car mate, registered in the UK March 2004 which is when it was made, if it was imported it would show as registered in the UK on a date later than March 2004.
These things are high maintenance you have to service them every 4.5k or 6 months whichever comes first.Even if you dont drive it you have to service it which i think is bollocks,Ive only done 600 miles in 2 years and I’ve had it serviced 5 times.
itsLeeLockwood yeh me too i dont mind servicing it if i do 4.5k miles but i have it parked up sometimes for over 6 months and do around 300 miles a year to keep the mileage low but i still have to service it according to the service book and the Evo specialists By me C1R in stourbridge.Them lad are good with evo’s il give them that.

I will change my engine oil & filter for 5w40 Full Synthetic Ester oil every year & all the other fluids (gearbox, transfer case, rear diff, AYC, coolant & brake fluid) every 2yrs for top quality stuff. If you're not doing the mileage I can't see how it's any different to any other performance car. EVO's can't make top quality oils lose their effectiveness more than other if there sitting still, just makes no sense.
itsLeeLockwood believe me you would be surprised the amount of people in the ‘know’ actually know little about them. Do you have a plaque next to the gearstick? Inside secret is apart from the fq400 they will all come up as a 260 or 280 but the UK spec version was the fq so they never left the factory as a ‘fq’ they were modified to the spec. If you have the plaque then you have a fq but it will be at least a 300 (304bhp) I had one for nearly 6 years fq300 running 371 absolutely the best car I have owned but sold due to having a lil one but with hindsight I should have kept it as it’s far better than the quieter vxr I have now. Enjoy it buddy any questions on mods ect feel free to ask, shame I chucked out all my old parts I had laying around when we moved workshop few months back or you would have been welcome to them
It was actually a very reputable mapper 18 months ago and had it on safe boost, engine was well maintained and rarely thrashed, still need to get the engine out to investigate further ..

If you get the chance you need to experience a remapped 335d around 400hp with neck breaking torque and average over 40mpg the only thing you miss is the soundtrack but as you get older having a loud car can get tedious as a daily,looking forward to your journey with Eva 👌🏼
IV had an evo fq330 back in the days. Now drive a 17 plate 335d stock Evo was on rails and a complete animal. Not sure how they would perform 0-60 and rolling but would love to try .... Searching for evo on the roads 😂

Getting confused now as lots of comments conflicting spec and model. The car has no rear aftermarket fog light like most imports so it’s a UK car?
You need to review this against a similar year impreza sti to make it fair dude, miles apart from a wrx..

Hi, lovin the evo. Hope its been properly undersealed since its an import. My mate has a fq and the underside is a little worst for wear as it wasnt sealed for uk roads.
Anthony Carr . Agreed! Mate just had his 8 done at a place called Rustbuster. They said it wasn’t too bad underneath to be fair but he went for their toughest under seal at a stupid cost. He sure loves that car 😃

Hey, The car is not an import, it is a fq series that was only sold in the UK, Japan doesn't have the fq series. Fq series and import don't go together as they were only sold in uk

I had that on the back of my black VIII GSR running 390hp. Sold it to a jock two weeks before they announced they weren't importing any more to the uk gutted. Really want another sad times 😢😭 ps TRL designs always looked after me and my mate. Keep up the Evo work!

You already have the hardware to get a remap to an easy reliable 350hp on pump fuel. Can you get e85 in the UK? Something to consider is changing to evo 9 front and rear bars

So I contacted GreenLight insurance. They straight up told me that there is no way that I can get insured on an EVO 8 as I'm under 25. How is it that you got insured on one at 23? Cheers.
Thats a UK car mate, registered in the UK March 2004 which is when it was made, if it was imported it would show as registered in the UK on a date later than March 2004.
These things are high maintenance you have to service them every 4.5k or 6 months whichever comes first.Even if you dont drive it you have to service it which i think is bollocks,Ive only done 600 miles in 2 years and I’ve had it serviced 5 times.

itsLeeLockwood yeh me too i dont mind servicing it if i do 4.5k miles but i have it parked up sometimes for over 6 months and do around 300 miles a year to keep the mileage low but i still have to service it according to the service book and the Evo specialists By me C1R in stourbridge.Them lad are good with evo’s il give them that.
@@MrThegenral1 Naaahh. I've got an FQ330 & will do around 3k miles a year. I will change my engine oil & filter for 5w40 Full Synthetic Ester oil every year & all the other fluids (gearbox, transfer case, rear diff, AYC, coolant & brake fluid) every 2yrs for top quality stuff. If you're not doing the mileage I can't see how it's any different to any other performance car. EVO's can't make top quality oils lose their effectiveness more than other if there sitting still, just makes no sense.
passed my test 2 days ago, insurance for my mx5 nb 1.6 is 4k and 5.8k if i want a monthly payment, insurance is a rip off there needs to be a cap

itsLeeLockwood believe me you would be surprised the amount of people in the ‘know’ actually know little about them. Do you have a plaque next to the gearstick?
Inside secret is apart from the fq400 they will all come up as a 260 or 280 but the UK spec version was the fq so they never left the factory as a ‘fq’ they were modified to the spec. If you have the plaque then you have a fq but it will be at least a 300 (304bhp)
I had one for nearly 6 years fq300 running 371 absolutely the best car I have owned but sold due to having a lil one but with hindsight I should have kept it as it’s far better than the quieter vxr I have now. Enjoy it buddy any questions on mods ect feel free to ask, shame I chucked out all my old parts I had laying around when we moved workshop few months back or you would have been welcome to them

I recommend forging the internals if you're going for around 400bhp, My evo 7 engine recently blew a conrod through the block running 375bhp!

I had a 8 gsr before my current forged evo and ran 460bhp on stock motor with cams ect for 15 thousand miles no issues at all.
It was actually a very reputable mapper 18 months ago and had it on safe boost, engine was well maintained and rarely thrashed, still need to get the engine out to investigate further ..

If you get the chance you need to experience a remapped 335d around 400hp with neck breaking torque and average over 40mpg the only thing you miss is the soundtrack but as you get older having a loud car can get tedious as a daily,looking forward to your journey with Eva 👌🏼

Now drive a 17 plate 335d stock
Evo was on rails and a complete animal. Not sure how they would perform 0-60 and rolling but would love to try ....
