I have lived in SLC for 30 years. I grew up here and I have heard of almost every local legend, gem and watering hole. I was pleasantly surprised by this video. Utah is a small state but we are extremely proud and loyal to everything Utah. I can tell that you did your research to include both well known favorites as well as local hidden gems. You talked about Park City and the Sundance Film Festival which everyone knows about, but then you followed it by introducing Brighton Resort. Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons are where most locals prefer to ski because of the price and many other factors. When you mentioned The Cotton Bottom, you had me hooked. That was my first bar. I grew up driving by the sign of "Bugs Bunny" on my way to my Grandmothers house up the road. Thanks for introducing so many people to the greatness of SLC.

Thanks for actually visiting and having knowledge of our city. I’ve seen some really bad videos that get everything wrong and can’t even pronounce any of the names correctly. FYI Temple Square is closed for a major remodel of the entire area and it won’t reopen again until 2024.. The conference center is still open for visitors though.

There's also the dinosaur park up just a bit north in Ogden, the zoo in Salt Lake, art locations like the Leonard and Dreamscapes, so many really good and unique ice cream shops like Normal Icecream that has differnt wild flavors every month, or the Farr's Icecream factory shop (playdough icecream is a must). South of Salt Lake is also Evermore. If you're into board games, this area also has more game store per capita than anywhere else in the country and there is a large board game convention, SaltCon, that is the most chill convention you'll ever attend. And then there's FanX, one of the largest comic conventions in the country.

Something i wanted to add is that salt lake is a lot bigger than it appears on paper, and can be very densely packed and sometimes a little stressful lol.
The majority of the metro is along the 20 mile stretch of highway in the Salt Lake Valley. Theres a lot of arbitrary city lines, but when in salt lake the whole valley kinda functions as one big city. You have 70 percent the population of San Antonio (the 7th biggest city it the us) in almost the exact same area.
If you're coming from a much bigger area (such as Seattle) you'll have no problem in slc, but if your big city experience is somewhere like Boise, you'll need to prepare yourself as salt lake is quite a bit bigger in terms of larger metro.
Also a lot more people are in the actual slc city limits on work days, and by a lot I mean A LOT. So i would try to not drive in the city during the morning and evening commutes. Traffic can be bad. Not anywhere as bad as other cities I've been to, but bad enough I think it should be avoided if at all possible.
Also i don't want to scare anyone, Utah is a great state and i absolutely love it, so please come vist. But Utah drivers are stupidly aggressive at times, some of the worst anywhere imo, so defensive driving is key.
Also avoid visiting in the early months of the year as those are our smog months 😂. So come in December for skiing and any time after the beginning of march for sight seeing.
Slc is a great city to vist, and if you get the chance to check out some of our state national parks i would highly recommend!

If you want the scenic drive to Park City, you have to go up Big Cotton Canyon, over Guardsman's pass, and then follow the directions into Park City. It is beautiful. It's probably about a 2: 00 to 2: 30 hour drive from the SLC. On the way back to SLC, Just drive down i-80 about a half hour. I think i-80 is boring.

Great video. Personally I would recommend staying downtown and create a visit where everything stays within a 10 minute (drive) radius. For more of an intimate (few day) experience I would suggest Coffee Garden, Cucina, Gourmandise and Cafe Trio. And also Ft. Douglas. From Coffee Garden you're just a few blocks from Liberty Park. With Cucina you can explore the beautiful historic mansions of the Avenues surrounding it. Cafe Trio is very close to the Coffee Garden and there's a cute grocery store nearby (Smith's) in a quiet neighborhood if you need anything. From Gourmandise you can walk to the Cathedral Of The Madeleine and you can take the Trax (light rail) up to the furthest part of the University Of Utah to where Ft. Douglas is. There's some really awesome architectural history there and from there you can take a short walk/hike near Red Butte Canyon. You'll also find a lot of scenic areas there where you can get some decent valley views. On the way back you get off Trax at Rice/Eccles stadium and walk to The Pie pizzeria just a couple of blocks away from there also. If you care to do so first, the Utah Museum of Fine Art is also on campus just a short walk away from the stadium. Then once the day is over you can return to your hotel downtown and once nightfall arrives, you can wander around to find a bar that seems of interest to you. The next day if you're looking for breakfast, I recommend walking over to the Little America hotel and there's a great option between the beautiful diner or the exquisite brunch next to the diner. To me this is a very intimate and unique experience of Salt Lake which doesn't require a lot of driving or large amount of energy.

The best thing to do on antelope Island is before you start the causeway to the left of the entrance gate, you park your car. You drag your bike off your car, and you ride the causeway, over to antelope Island all over the Island, pack a picnic lunch, and then ride to causeway back. It's beautiful.

It's pretty rare to see the sky that clear around SLC. Usually it's pretty smoggy and often it's so bad you can't even see the mountains. With the lake drying up the air gets filled with particulate matter containing arsenic. I fear property values are going to drop once cancer and respiratory illness rates start skyrocketing. I've already had 3 close family members die early to respiratory illness. I believe it was the constant exposure to pollution that killed them.

If your coming from a big city:
-The food is not that good
-The Mormons are judgy and weird ( they create local laws check out the state run liquor stores)
    - northern salt lake smells like burnt plastic from the oil refineries and mining
    - yes , the Mormons are culty and weird except for downtown salt lake and park city
    - the salt lake is drying up which will make the surrounding areas a toxic wasteland
In 5-10 years it might be better but check out the stats on Mormon population and how they effect local laws. It’s kinda crazy
