BananaSlayer64 I think Meshuggah deserves to be whatever Meshuggah says they are. They've never actually said they were "djent." With that said, I don't know that djent deserves Meshuggah.
Only people who never listened to this bands say that. Check out periphery- scarlet for example. A very technical, progressive, diverse and melodic band. It aint about just playing 0-s on a 7-string.
Gaseous Snake No need to insult first of all, second as a guitarist I have to tell you, Periphery musicianship's put them above a lot of these bands. Their use of changing keys, complex and intricate riffs, their approach to melody etc.
I don't really understand the hooblah over meshugga, yes, they pretty much created the genre, but honestly, meshugga is by far one of the most boring, "Djent," bands I've ever heard. Too many of their songs can be played on one string with a total of 3-4 frets. It bothers me when people go around saying, "oh djent, how easy and boring, 0-0-0-00-0-00-0-1-0-30-12-0-0-00-000-010" but when it comes to meshugga, yeah, thats pretty much the truth. and his vocals are about as boring as watching paint dry. So, yeah, go ahead, put them on the list purely because they are the, "Fathers of djent" but break em back down to ten... and keep them there.
What are the songs being played by each showcased band on the list? • After the Burial • Veil of Maya • Monuments • Tesseract • Animals as Leaders • Periphery
@@HugoStiglitz88 Periphery are fucking amazing, however I gotta agree with the original commenter and say I personally prefer TesseracT. Their style is very different, so it's less about who is better, and more about personal preference.
YoLpIsBest even today! I saw them last week and they're fucking amazing! the other djent bands are good, too, but what meshuggah made! There's no word for it!
YoLpIsBest Meshuggah gives djent a good reputation. It's the subtleness in their sound that makes them amazing. Plus... have you seen their music videos lmao they make the best low budget music videos there are
I think when so many bands have such similar styles (I don't mean that in a bad way necessarily), you can't call it progressive. At least not your average Djent band
The difference between djent and prog metal is that in djent, a steady pulse is maintained regardless of the time signatures while in prog, you have to follow the odd time signatures.Djent is easier to follow and that is done in a very intelligent way.Animals As Leaders would fit better in prog metal though.
I really want to. I'm pissed their next tour isn't coming to New England. I'm thinking about driving 3.5 hours each way just to see em play for an hour. If they were headlining I definitely would but Underoath is which worries me periphery won't even get to play for long so it seems like a dumb move. I'm still thinking about it
The truth of the matter is that Meshuggah, Textures, Sikth, Mnemic, Chimp Spanner, Periphery, Animals As Leaders, Volumes, Cruentus (Poland), Circles, Means End, and The Contortionist should be at the top since they all brought something original & top quality to the "genre". Bad Wolves are sounding pretty badass too.
Teutone Well in fairness to these artists, its hard to make such a dense sound like Djent. Expand and standout in any significant way, TesseracT is definitely the most experimental of them all. Its especially hard when having almost a decade worth of bands before has been abusing the Low end like Metalcore and Deathcore.
It's not really new, Meshuggah has been doing the djent thing since the 90's and it wasn't until the mid-2000's when Misha Mansoor started gaining prominence in the internet metal scene and people hopped into the trend.
If you're looking for new good Djent bands, try the French band Kadinja. They released one EP and a few more songs, but their first album should be released by the end of January.
Cool did anybody know the cloud kicker song? I gotta day I love the Djent songs that have a cool clean lead or distorted lead and have a chugging guitar in the background and what was the monument song too?
Where is fucking volumes...They created djent and and they are still one of the best djent bands . They are the fathers of djent. Even before meshuggah
correct me if i'm wrong but didn't tomas haake himself say meshuggah was just the band that laid the framework for djent and then periphery made it a thing? i ain't making it up, it was in a wikipedia fact or fiction, so wouldn't they count as something else?
Tesseract is probably my favourite Djent Band. They aren't really technical or brutal like most of the other bands shown, but their melodies are just beautiful.
Trent Stines yes, i think so, but i also think that could be interesting to "discover" which are the other eight, ah ah ah p.s. obscura is (one of) my favourite prog death metal band
i think djent is bit more than just a bunch of 00-000-0-00 guitar rythems, i thinks its evolved into a genre that has a specific atmosphere about it, like to be honest i wouldn't call some of these bands djent as much as i like them its just a bit more that those guitar rythems people always make fun of, maybe its just me but hey these are all good bands so its not a bad list
if you have any girl problems i feel bad for you son, i got an 9 string but i only use one
Lol that was good XD
I imagined Jay singing it lol
thanks thanos
Boogie Boys that ain’t thanos that’s the thing in purple these dcs are everywhere don’t get wined up in their shitty universe
GALACTIC WAR fuck
Yes, definitely a fine group of djentlemen
I would be unsubscribed by now if Meshuggah was not at the top of that list
Peter Abud i think shouldnt be on this list cuz they are on the elite class of bands.
Peter Abud I think 4-1 they absolutely nailed, and I'm with you. If Meshuggah wasn't #1, we riot!
They don't deserve to be considered Djent tbh
BananaSlayer64 I think Meshuggah deserves to be whatever Meshuggah says they are. They've never actually said they were "djent." With that said, I don't know that djent deserves Meshuggah.
nmb nmb Agreed.
I don't care if he isn't a band, Mick Gordon should be on the list.
Princess Scarlet yes
couldn't agree more
definitely
That shit powered me through an ultra nightmare run of Doom 4 HELL YEAH!!!
Yes!
BUT DOES IT DJENT?!
stop it.
get some help.
Aerology Guitars hell yea it does
R Saldivar Thanks, you too!
Aerology Guitars l
Yes, that's the fucking point😂
There are 2 things loudwire loves in this world:
1: Live videos for bands.
2: Ghost
Enough said.
And slipknot
Corey Taylor's opinion
This is a thing and not just something Stevie T makes fun of?
Only people who never listened to this bands say that. Check out periphery- scarlet for example. A very technical, progressive, diverse and melodic band. It aint about just playing 0-s on a 7-string.
I still feel like some people are really thinking this way.
Gaseous Snake No need to insult first of all, second as a guitarist I have to tell you, Periphery musicianship's put them above a lot of these bands. Their use of changing keys, complex and intricate riffs, their approach to melody etc.
Penguinzombies__ or jared dines
i agree with you, but i found theres no point in arguing with stupid people.
Already knew who was gonna be #1 before I even clicked the video
The fathers of Djent, obiously
Hahaha yeah
I don't really understand the hooblah over meshugga, yes, they pretty much created the genre, but honestly, meshugga is by far one of the most boring, "Djent," bands I've ever heard. Too many of their songs can be played on one string with a total of 3-4 frets. So, yeah, go ahead, put them on the list purely because they are the, "Fathers of djent" but break em back down to ten... and keep them there.
I couldn't have said it better myself
djent developed from meshuggah,my only fav in this list are after the burial and meshuggah lol
If you haven't seen Meshuggah live, you need to. They put on a crazy fucking show.
Saw them last week, the best way to describe it IMO is that it is lika a firework fired right into your face. One of the best concerts I saw so far.
Lucas T that they do. and it gets better when a chick grinds you for the whole show
Saw them last night, best fucking day of my life.
Lucas T they're coming to my country next year but i can't go cos I'm not 18 :'(
Fieldy Znuts I went, and I'm not 18, I don't see why you can't go...
I just came to write DUH-jent
When people call it duh-jent it cuts me down like a kuh-nife
Monuments's vocalist looks like Zach De La Rocha LMAO
ikr
ye
Torso I thought that too
Fun fact he used to be Periphery's lead singer and is a pretty kick ass alto sax player.
the name of that song plz ?
After the burial should have been way higher on the list.
Any best-of djent lists should leave off Meshuggah. It's like putting Black Sabbath at the top spot of every best-of doom list.
Why would you say something so controversial yet so brave?
What are the songs being played by each showcased band on the list?
• After the Burial
• Veil of Maya
• Monuments
• Tesseract
• Animals as Leaders
• Periphery
The periphery song is called " make total destroy"
Veil Of Maya song is Divide Paths
degenerate by monuments
Animals as leaders - cafo
Of matter- Proxy, is the song by Tesseract.
I swear they made this video just to make Stevie T mad
Whys that?
Tave Garcia "Djent is not a genre, is like saying what's your favorite type of music, oh, I like shred"
Oh, lol, yeah, I remember now. Haha.
Tave Garcia Haha :-P
You do realise that Stevie T's vids are sarcastic?
i see misha, i clicked
same
Dias Widj Exactly why I clicked
Yup
Yup
I'm a simple man, I see a djentleman I click.
It's great that the first band was able to get Chris Hemsworth on the guitar.
I prefer some relaxing Gwent.
Fader209 Me too, which deck do you play?
in the mood for a round of cards?
VikingWarrior HU nilfgaardian empire
fader209 what a prick
No Sikth? For real? They are much more significant than half of these bands.
G00d vide00 L00udwire :D 0-0-0-0-0
Agustin Rodriguez That was bad. You should feel bad.
I see what you did there
After the burial,10 ? You must fcking kidding me
born of osiris ??????
You (especially) know that Meshuggah is the best when it's Bill Burrs favorite metal band xD
Tesseract is phenomenal . Some of the greatest vocals and instrumentals I ever heard
Lol have you not heard periphery?
@@HugoStiglitz88 Periphery are fucking amazing, however I gotta agree with the original commenter and say I personally prefer TesseracT. Their style is very different, so it's less about who is better, and more about personal preference.
dude. you just gave me new addiction. Cloudkicker is amazing. Didn't know them. Thank you
No SikTh? Disappoint...
animals as leaders djent? i would very loosely use that word when describing them. theyre in a league of their own
Yea it doesn't seem right
animals as leaders are one of the 3 bands that "created" djent
So Djent bands are basically death/black metal bands with more stupid name than usually.
Yeah I don't know about classifying them as djent...
@Reijo Piippula Thanks for clearly not having any idea what you're talking about, but still contributing anyway.
Meshuggah blows the rest of these bands out of the water
Maybe during the Obzen era but not today.
YoLpIsBest well a band that's been around for a while like Meshuggah eventually loses some of its glory. However, they are still the pinnacle of Djent
YoLpIsBest even today! I saw them last week and they're fucking amazing! the other djent bands are good, too, but what meshuggah made! There's no word for it!
YoLpIsBest Meshuggah gives djent a good reputation. It's the subtleness in their sound that makes them amazing. Plus... have you seen their music videos lmao they make the best low budget music videos there are
Give Animals as Leaders a shot their musicality and dexterity is mind blowing :D
After The Burial definitely deserves a top 3 spot
TRUE
No Twelve Foot Ninja?
^ this guy knows whats good!
+Hey Nice Thighs overlooked as fuck too xD
they are not as good
No KADINJA on the list too.
Zack Fraser I was thinking the same think.
YES! Finally a video that credits After the Burial! I've fallen on love with thier amazing mix of Djenty chugs and crazy shredding.
But like, where's Volumes tho?
Im just really happy to see After The Burial here my band got the luck and honor to open for them :)
I don't get it. Djent is the style of guitar play, not a genre. Is there a list of 10 greatest blast beat bands?
it is the genre :v
Exactly. Tesseract and Meshuggah aren't the same genre.
Get with the times... Djent is a genre
Djent used to be a type of playing in the 90´s but it became so popuar that style that it became a genre
Christian Is neoclassical metal an actual genre?
#1 Jared Dines
"Bands"
+Kiko Friko "a joke"
+Baxtr please define "a joke" for me
what do you mean by that
I was literally about to comment this
I mean, at this point, I'd say he's a pretty legitimate band/solo artist. If not him, maybe his band, Rest Repose?
Vildhjarta needs to release more stuff
i know they call it djent due the strumming style but to me its still progressive metal. but i like most of the bands in this list btw. 😀
DeathstalkeR Lol just what I was thinking.
I think when so many bands have such similar styles (I don't mean that in a bad way necessarily), you can't call it progressive. At least not your average Djent band
And for the purpose of the list they had to say Djent. Otherwise there'd be a million other bands eligible for the list
The difference between djent and prog metal is that in djent, a steady pulse is maintained regardless of the time signatures while in prog, you have to follow the odd time signatures.Djent is easier to follow and that is done in a very intelligent way.Animals As Leaders would fit better in prog metal though.
idek why AAL is on this list, they're almost post prog now hahaha no label for this new album. they've transcended everything
IF you ever get the chance to see Periphery....DO IT!! It is an awesome show
I really want to. I'm pissed their next tour isn't coming to New England. I'm thinking about driving 3.5 hours each way just to see em play for an hour. If they were headlining I definitely would but Underoath is which worries me periphery won't even get to play for long so it seems like a dumb move. I'm still thinking about it
Most tallented band for me Monuments and Periphery
Where's jared dines when you need him
Psycho Sunshine he's busy giving a dude head!
i dont know? where's your mom when we need her?
LUL LUL LUL
I fucking hate jared dines
Am I the only who's got a kinda low sound quality for most of the video?
yeah
Yea. Because loudwire picks the worst quality live videos fucking ever
They used some pretty outdated clips for some of the bands
Yeah cuz they suck
The truth of the matter is that Meshuggah, Textures, Sikth, Mnemic, Chimp Spanner, Periphery, Animals As Leaders, Volumes, Cruentus (Poland), Circles, Means End, and The Contortionist should be at the top since they all brought something original & top quality to the "genre". Bad Wolves are sounding pretty badass too.
The contortionist is not djent at all
Only just discovered this is my cup of tea and im proud to call myself a djentleman.
Vildhjarta is my favorite by far. Such sick riffs.
But they be super djenting to much, then thall it was.
I was about to comment. "Is Meshuggah not djent enough for u" but u put them first. Good job 👏
seriously?nickel back is one of the only true dgent artists .They should at least be number 4
Gargaloyd 666 right up there with The Forest Gump Mile High Marathon
Shit, at least Nickelback uses all the strings.
Hahaha
BaggedF100 AAL use every note on the fretboard.
@@claymore32 gump core death groove shrimp slam
The amount of dad rock listeners in the comments here are insane
Brayan Meza what's wrong with liking good music?
Perfect list my man. Not the exact order I would put them but all the right bands. And I agree with numbers 2 and 1 of course
Thanks to Meshuggah, but where's Intervals in this list though?
Never mind Intervals, where is SikTh?
I love how my friend tried to tell me vildhjarta was nu metal XD
It's amazing how a seemingly new genre can be made as formulaic and run into the ground SO fast.
This is the truest comment I've ever read.
Teutone Technically it's not even a genre
Teutone Well in fairness to these artists, its hard to make such a dense sound like Djent. Expand and standout in any significant way, TesseracT is definitely the most experimental of them all. rubberduckie5000 haha ok so then go ahead and do it...
I'm actually surprised that Sikth aren't on here
Top 3 will never change! The rest is history
BORIS TUBETI Top 4
OffLeatherWings I said the same thing on another comment. They nailed the top 4. I don't think it could've been any other order.
Prolly the first time I’ve seen veil of maya on loudwire. Glad you guys included them.
After the Burial kicks ass
Also the veil of maya one as well
Im a newbie to all this and it all seems quite intersting!
Bring the elitists

Brendan Horner thanks man
After the burial is amazing banda one of the best today, the sounds, riffs and strong music
Very underrated band
Where is fucking volumes...They created djent and and they are still one of the best djent bands . They are the fathers of djent. Even before meshuggah

Future of Metal
Animals as Leaders, Periphery, and Tesserect are more Progressive than Djent. Has a lot of styles rather than 0 0 0 0 0 0
okang okang 0000 is not what djent is
okang okang you can djent on the 7th fret in standard tuning
THALL is 0-0-0
Eirik Bevektg You only need 1 string to djent.
Periphery just sounds like a metalcore band with polyrhythms.
going through all these comments and not seeing at least one person mention Circle of Contempt, they have some genius stuff
What was the song that veil of maya was playing?
Divide Paths. The entire album that song is from is nuts. Produced by Misha from Periphery
Which song was contortionist and the one by Tesseract and Monuments playing live
Tesseract - Proxy
I saw this expecting Volumes to be in this list...
This is there best loudwire intros
DJENTLEMENS ONLY
^
Never mind I got it.
Thanks guys
ain't Animals As Leaders and Periphery more kinda Prog?
TzzSmk Djent is prog
TzzSmk periphery has a bunch of really djenty stuff, though animals as leaders is more prog
Djent is a form of modern prog
djent is progcore
most of all djent is progcore or technicalcore except meshuggah . meshuggah is more progmetal
Okay this list is actually good. I hold every band on this list to a high regard. Was honestly suspecting bands I’ve never listened to.
Vildjharta’s breakdown on Traces will forever be one of my favorite rhythms.
Where's Volumes at tho? 0.o
I'd added Volumes in a list - really great band as for me
I like Volumes as a musical group but their music is pretty simple, I can jam to it tho. Also they are terrible people lol
MetsMania15 do you know them personally?
Dmitriy Royal Nah, I've heard stories on end of them causing problems and drama though
No surprise to see meshuggah and periphery on top!!!
I love Monuments
SITKH deserve to be in this list!!
Animals as Leaders clearly are Progressive Metal.
Meshuga in a nutshell:
000-000-0-000-000-0-000-000-0...
8 minutes later: 000-000-1-000-000-1...
It’s 0s but a majority of guitarists will never learn it right (:
wow thanks for putting me on to monuments.
Cloudkicker is incredible
what was the name of the song in the video by cloudkicker?
And I repeat over and over... those who can't sing, growl.
>Applies to majority not all.
>Calm yer tits.
>Tesseract is love, Tesseract is life
1. Jared Dines.
Business Cat queer!
Business Cat Djared Dines

funny does djent man
Absolutely not.
correct me if i'm wrong but didn't tomas haake himself say meshuggah was just the band that laid the framework for djent and then periphery made it a thing? i ain't making it up, it was in a wikipedia fact or fiction, so wouldn't they count as something else?
Tesseract is probably my favourite Djent Band. They aren't really technical or brutal like most of the other bands shown, but their melodies are just beautiful.
Agreed, brutality isn't everything.
So many years waiting for a new album of Vildhjarta
hey Loudwire, can you do the top ten of prog metal bands, please?
Nicolò Valsecchi We already know who'd be numbers one and two. Dream Theater and Obscura (both death metal and progressive metal).
Trent Stines yes, i think so, but i also think that could be interesting to "discover" which are the other eight, ah ah ah
p.s. obscura is (one of) my favourite prog death metal band
I see how much Djenters love Ibanez
Most or all of these bands would reject being pigeonholed as "djent".
tMattLZ well then they should pick a different genre
tMattLZ agreed. They just incorporate it into their music.
Tyler Brooke-Thomas it's not a genre.
Jrocka7x all the time lol
i think djent is bit more than just a bunch of 00-000-0-00 guitar rythems, i thinks its evolved into a genre that has a specific atmosphere about it, like to be honest i wouldn't call some of these bands djent as much as i like them its just a bit more that those guitar rythems people always make fun of, maybe its just me but hey these are all good bands so its not a bad list
I saw monuments with animals as leaders and Devin townsand projects and they stole the show
Went to a show in that tour as well. Great line-up.
When I was a kid, we only played air guitar with a hockey stick. Nowadays, we're making Djent Sticks out of them.
Tesseract is amazing live.
Video Cutter : Do we need good sound ?
Loudwire : lol .
Volumes?
10. Animals as Leaders (old stuff)
9. Volumes
8. Veil of Maya
7. Flux Conduct
6. ERRA
5. Northlane
4. Polyphia (old stuff)
3. Periphery
2. Monuments
1. TesseracT (duh)
You put AAL in there but not meshuggah? Don't get me wrong, I love AAL, but they aren't that djenty
