      Just when I thought I had her figured out, she'd change.
      I still find women and Model A's terribly interesting.
      Well done Paul. I definately like the last bulbs best. They have that '30's look'.
      My Model A has sealed beams with chrome trim rings. I'd have to buy reflectors, lenses, and trim rings. For now, I'm leaving them alone. At least that's my plan for now!

    These seem like the perfect blend of modern practicality and classic looks. I love how people are still out there putting the time and effort into making the Model A a driveable vehicle, even in the modern world! It's impressive just how well a vehicle designed nearly 100 years ago can be adapted to modern tech and in a practical way.

    A 3000k or “warm” light will always throw light out further than any LED/HID bulb. I’ve had all 3, and halogen or a warm LED will always win. The 6000k LED/HID lights soak into the dark blacktop and fail to THROW light out in front of you. They just illuminate the immediate area in front of the car. And if it rains, forget it. Wet blacktop will soak up LED/HID light and you won’t be able to see anything. Thanks Paul for filling us in on these! I do like them much better!

    On the forums and Face Book groups we call those arrogant, pompous people " Model A Holes". Nice video. I wonder if they will fit in a '33 Model B headlight.

    • @peakdj
      @peakdj 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. If you have a Model A bulb, try installing it in the '33. If it fits, then these probably will. If it doesn't then they won't. Check with the Early Ford V8 suppliers. There may be some LED bulbs available that will fit those original '33 sockets. As a last resort, you can buy from Joe's Antique Auto Parts some Vintique sockets that will fit a Model A bulb (B-13075-2) but you would have to modify your reflectors to install them. If you have original reflectors, you would not want to do that but you could obtain and modify aftermarket reflectors, which would save your originals and give you good reflection.

    Excellent video Paul, thanks for sharing the news about the LED bulbs and all their advantages. About a month ago I was talking with Newton about a moto-meter and he mentioned that he had the 6000 and 3000 K LED bulbs available. I ordered a pair of each and am completely thrilled. Newton's a great guy and it's been a lot of help to me. You are also absolutely right about the small number of jerks on the model A sites. 9 5% of people are great others are not. Yes Paul.. there is another side to this question. For many years I drove a Semi across Australia and although I had powerful big Bull Lights I seldom turned them on, mainly because if there were any animals in front, the bright lights would spot them and hold them (confused) and not knowing how to get out of the way. I used to drive with my weaker yellowish headlights and had no such problems... it's also easier on the eyes when driving long hours. Cheers mate. 🍻

    I hate the new bright white headlights - these are a much more comfortable color with less distracting glare. The only thing stopping me from ordering a set right now is that then I'd have to try explaining to my wife why I suddenly really, really, seriously, dear, really need to buy a Model A. You'd be able to see THAT eye roll from low earth orbit.

    Just by good luck I saw this video, as I am in the middle of redoing my headlights now. I ordered a bunch of stuff last Thursday, but held back on the bulbs, just because I did not like the bright blue glare. Today I ordered a pair! On another note, I would like to confess a mishap I had with my lens. I was so careful removing it and then cleaned it with Windex, but decided to rise it off in the sink with hot water, as soon as the hot water hit it, it cracked! Tough lesson to learn.

    I have to say, the only inarguable criteria of a restoration of any car should be those aspects that relate to safety.
    Who cares if an antique car has (bluish) LED lights, if it makes driving safer? Or installing modern lap and torso seatbelts? Or has _Aeroquip_ brake lines, or even has seats with lumbar and headrest support?
    No one seems to mind utilizing modern synthetic lubricants in them, or installing an overdrive so that it may be driven at highway speeds...
    I realize that this issue is mainly driven by a perception of retained value and/or “purity“ of preservation, but really, people... _safety!_
    The durability and ubiquity of the _Model A_ attests to the presumption that “ordinary“ people have them _and_ (daily!) drive them. My above thesis is therefore especially pertinent to this very car.

I just can't seem to find a list of what I need. Single bulb, two bulb?? The mechanics handbook doesn't really say. I think two bulb, but I don't know. If you have the wires in your harness for the parking lights (that extra bulb that hangs from the top in headlight buckets) then get headlights with the parking bulb. If not, then just get regular headlights. You can buy the headlights as a complete assembly from most of the Model A parts suppliers. Then, after you install them, just unplug the glass bulbs and plug in some LEDs if you want them. Save the glass bulbs as a backup. Thank you!

      @@ModelA The wire harness was changed to the SEAL connection, so I don't know what was original. A new set of headlights is about $340. Trying to put the pieces together I'm at about$160. I 'm not trying to be cheap, but why waste the headlight buckets I have? I saw in a forum that its two bulbs if you don't have cowl lights? I guess the big part is that I thought with a 91 year old car, I couldn't possibly be the first guy trying to rebuild old headlights that were converted and butchered.

OH and all the pages and pages on the VFF, Ford barn and facebook sold the bulbs out....sorry to inform you. You have shown no factual information to prove they can be focused properly or aimed the ford way...Good Luck Paul...

    • @ModelA
      @ModelA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mark, You are repeating info from a web forum posted by a man who tested LED headlight bulbs a few years ago. Those LED bulbs would produce the results I read in his lengthy report. These LED headlights are shorter than the ones he tested and use different LED chips on a flatter chassis, more closely positioning them where a filament would be in an incandescent bulb. Unless you have tested THESE bulbs, your argument is without basis. I have personally tested these bulbs, shown in video for proof. I also focused the LED headlight bulbs in the first video in great detail, showing the projected light image getting smaller and larger as I turn the focus adjustment, finally stopping when the light pattern was focused. I did all that on video. Yet, you just stand their with your arms folded saying "nope". Clearly, if you cannot be convinced by video evidence, then there is no way I can convince you. Keep in mind, I don't care if you believe me or not, but I do care when you come into the comments on my video with your crossed arms and refusal to even consider video evidence.
      I don't visit the web forums anymore because I got tried of people giving incorrect or outdated information, and then when asking for proof, only supplying a response similar to "because I said so" as their proof. I am offering video evidence of my findings, you are offering "because another forum guy said so" as yours. Checkmate.
