The father of the current president of the Philippines, who is also the former president of the Philippines, fled to the United States after being overthrown and transferred a large amount of embezzled funds to the United States. The amount of these funds is as high as tens of billions of dollars. In the past few years, they have been investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice. The U.S. state machine can easily use these seized funds to reach a private agreement with the Philippine president to make him cooperate with the U.S. diplomatic strategy. If he does not comply, the funds will be confiscated. It is too easy. This is why among the countries in the South China Sea, only the Philippines has the most radical approach to China and is the least willing to protect its actual national interests.

this is just conspiratory. Philippines already have tensions with China for this sea even in the past decades, with 2012 Scarborough Shoal Standoff firing it to even new heights. While during the traitorous Duterte's administration, PH already exhausted of soft power means to fight off China's claims, tried to befriend China instead with us thinking it will help smooth it out.
China never respected us despite our efforts of friendly relations.
PH will always go anti China after the Duterte's disastrous move, no matter who seat in the presidency.
remember, Philippines are always Pro-US especially within our military.
      And your last statement a
are just flat out lie. Philippines are going against China because we are trying to protect our national interest. And it's Vietnam who are the most radical in fighting off China for these waters, enough to even have military engagements with China.

During the tenure of the former Philippine president, there was no violent conflict between China and the Philippines, mainly because both sides abided by the gentleman's agreement reached verbally. The problem is that the new Philippine president overturned the gentleman's agreement after taking office and took the initiative to escalate the conflict again.
This is part of President Marcos's diplomatic strategy of obeying the United States, while ignoring the real national interests of the Philippines. The conflict between the Philippines and China constitutes a favorable condition for the United States to intervene in the South China Sea, but in the real reality, the Philippines cannot gain any benefits.

What is even more shocking is that in your understanding, territorial ownership is divided according to distance. Guam are closer to China, so why are they American territories instead of Chinese territories? During World War II, China, the United States and Britain held the Cairo Conference in Cairo and issued the Cairo Declaration, which clearly stated that the South China Sea islands illegally occupied by Japan must be returned to China. In the subsequent Potsdam Declaration, it was emphasized again that the Cairo Declaration must be implemented. You should ask yourself, as China becomes more and more powerful, why did the United States and Britain change their positions and claim that the South China Sea islands do not belong to China and that China's territorial claims to the South China Sea islands are aggression?

The Phillippines have no right to compare themselves to Ukraine. First, they and China both claimed sea territory that belonged to no one before their respective claim. Not land territory under any sort of sovereignty! Second, they were repeatedly warned by China, whereas Russia never warned Ukraine of its own intention. In fact, they purposefully misled Ukraine until the last minute before the "Special Military Operation". Third, the US unequivocally emphasized that they would avoid an armed conflict with Russia before the Ukraine war broke out, so Zelensky knew he could not count on the US or NATO to provide any direct military support. But the US did say it would respond if a Phillipino soldier died in conflict with China.

I beg to disagree to your "belonged to no one before their respective claim".
China just started to claim the whole South China Sea in 1947 through their newly made up imaginary 9-dashed line map, while the Scarborough and Spratly Islands in the Philipine side of South China Sea was already included to the official maps of the Philippines since 1734 (Murillo Velarde Map), 1908 and 1875 (Carta General del Archiepelago Filipino maps).
In addition, the UNCLOS already provides each countries with 200 nautical mile exclusive economic zones (EEZ) in which China is also a signatory. The permanent arbitral coury already ruled on 2016 that China's 9-dashed line claim for the whole South China Sea is baseless ang illegal. The whole harassment by China is happening inside the Philippine's EEZ while China should not be there in the first place. China should abide to the inthernational law and should not harass its neighbors. That will lead to peace in the region.

If it is closer to the Philippines, it must be the Philippines, not China? Take a look at the following examples:
    1. Of the 2,500 islands in the Aegean Sea, Greece directly occupies more than 2,400, while Turkey occupies less than 100. Among them, Samos Island is occupied by Greece and is only 1,600 meters away from the coast of the Turkish mainland
    2. Channel Islands, also known as the Normandy Islands: Located in the English Channel at the entrance of the Bay of Saint-Malo, northwest of the Cotentin Peninsula in France, near the French coast, the nearest is less than 12 nautical miles (miles), and 130 kilometers or 80 nautical miles north of the British Isles of Great Britain. The main islands are Guernsey and Jersey. But the sovereignty of the islands belongs to the United Kingdom
    3. Canary Islands: About 130 kilometers east of the west coast of Africa and about 1,100 kilometers northeast of Spain (equivalent to the straight-line distance from Beijing to Shanghai). It is an autonomous region of Spain and a territory of the European Union, not belonging to the closer African country Morocco
    4. The Malvinas Islands are about 500 kilometers east of Argentina, but about 13,000 kilometers from the British mainland (equivalent to the straight-line distance from Shanghai to Moscow), and are currently under the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom
    5. New Caledonia Island is located about 1,500 kilometers east of Brisbane, Australia, and more than 20,000 kilometers from mainland France (equivalent to half a circle around the earth's equator). Its sovereignty belongs to France
    6. Guam Island is located in the western Pacific Ocean, 9,800 kilometers east of the United States (equivalent to 3 times the straight-line distance from Harbin, Heilongjiang Province to Haikou, Hainan Province), and 3,010 kilometers west of China (mainland) (2,500 kilometers from Taiwan, China)

According to Basic Document No. 578 of U.S. Foreign Policy from 1977 to 1980, armed attacks under the MDT refer to the Treaty of Paris signed by Spain and the United States in 1898 and the Treaty of Washington signed by the United Kingdom and the United States in 1900 (revised in 1930 ), as well as external armed aggression against Pacific island territories under Philippine jurisdiction.
In a 1975 legal interpretation, the United States further declared that it would not "recognize" Philippine sovereignty over islands in the South China Sea. During the negotiation and ratification of the 1952 Mutual Defense Treaty, the United States held that “the Spratly Islands are outside the Philippine territory ceded to the United States in the 1898 treaty with Spain.”
In other words, the United States believes that the islands in the South China Sea are not within the sovereignty of the Philippines.

Both countries are behaving in an uncivilized way because one thing is absent. DIALOGUE. The area they're fighting about doesn't belong to either of them. It's being claimed by several nations. If the path of dialogue is taken, all nations may compromise and share the benefits in these contested seas. But if the path of aggression is taken ( by china or philippines or whoever) to forcelly claim and insist the area is theirs then it becomes a question of who has the biggest muscles, which again is an uncivilized way to resource differences in this day and age.

@@MaddyTweens After World War II, the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation clearly stipulated that Japan should return the occupied territories to China. In December 1946, with the participation of the US fleet, China recovered the waters of the the Nansha Islands occupied by Japan and divided them into 12 parts. After 1949, China adjusted and changed them to the nine segment line.
Before 1975, Vietnam explicitly recognized China's territorial sovereignty over the the Nansha Islands through government statements. The Paris Treaty signed by the United States and Spain in 1898 and the Washington Treaty signed in 1900 clearly defined the territorial scope of the Philippines, excluding the the Nansha Islands! This is further confirmed by the Philippine Constitution of 1953 and the Treaty of Military Alliance between the Philippines and the United States of America of 1951, which excludes the the Nansha Islands.
In 2016, with the support of the United States, President Aquino III of the semi colonial Philippines unilaterally applied for the South China Sea arbitration case, which did not try territorial ownership issues. Because territorial sovereignty is a contractual issue between countries, the International Court of Justice and the United Nations do not make any judgments or regulations on territorial sovereignty. According to international law, any international trial must require both parties to participate in order to be legal. In fact, China has not participated in the South China Sea arbitration case. According to the International Convention on the Sea, 200 kilometers of the offshore waters of each country's islands belong to its economic waters. At the request of the United States and the Philippines, the South China Sea arbitration case decided that the the Nansha Islands were not islands but rocks, and wanted to use this trial to deny the economic scope of 200 kilometers off China's coast. In fact, there are many islands in the the Nansha Islands, and the largest island even has an airport runway, so the South China Sea arbitration case is a ridiculous farce. Even more absurdly, the United States did not sign the International Maritime Convention but demanded that China recognize the judgment of the South China Sea arbitration case. The most likely reason is Duterte's political inclinations influenced by Jose Maria Sison, the founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines, under whom Duterte studied during his university years. Duterte exhibited significant animosity towards the United States during his term. In contrast, Marcos aligns more closely with the approaches the previous Philippine presidents would have taken addressing the encroachment on the Philippines' territory.
