  • I start the rebuild of the engine.
    New:
    Pistons, liners, crankshaft, Cylinder head, oil pump valves and bearings.
    Almost every components of the engine is being changed, and its is not going according to my plan- Its not a complete fail, but not a huge success either!!
    I am a DIY and not a professional, so it is no surprise that I meet some challenges on the way- Thats part of the fun.

    No need to apologize for your ‘mistakes’. I love watching your video’s just because they are so honest and show both successes as mistakes. Keep up the positivity. What a great build this R5 GT Turbo. Brings back memories of my own Turbo in the 90’s.

      Thanks!
      I think many cut out their mistakes to show a nice end result, but the reality is that being a DIY car guy, you are going to make a lot of mistakes! and its part of the journey... and also what makes a success that much greater!.... or maybe im just really bad at it... :P
      Thanks for watching Ray!

    Watching you helps me alot! I have a Volvo (Daf) 66 with the same engine and similar problems.. bend push rods, blue smoke when starting etc. I'm also a DIY "mechanic" and its so nice watching you work this engine! Thanks for the videos! Keep it up!

      You might have a bend valve aswell!
      I am glad you like it! Thanks for watching!

    Looking forward to the next engine rebuild video, you may not be a professional mechanic, but the videos are a massive inspiration and help! the mistakes you make and show are mistakes that I can hopefully avoid!!! keep up the great work.

    I was rebuilding my c3g twingo engine also as an amateur using haynes book for the Renault 5 and online help, a lot of work and satisfaction. I did give the head for straightening and grinding the valve seats. But I reused all my pistons and liners so I didn't have to deal with that.

      Yea, its a very good idea to get the head checked! I am installing a brand new one.. :)
      I got tools for valve grinding which is not as hard as you might think... but you need the tools which is hard to get/expensive.
      Hope this rebuild will end with a lot of satisfaction as well! ;)

      @@SeasideGarage I had a blown head gasket, that's why I did the rebuild.

    Nice one showing that you failed to do something yourself. Is not a bad a thing to get help if you need it.
    I'm planning to tear down the engine of my Rallye and videos like this are great to see what can go wrong.

    "A man needs to know his limitations" , Clint Eastwood aka Dirty Harry once said😎 . An amateur can only go so far, sometimes our abilities need years to perfect. Too long unless doing it every day.

    If you heat up the rods in an oven at 250 degrees C, you can easly install the piston pins!

      @SeasideGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Should have done that. . :)

    Shame not being able to assemble the piston pins.
    Hope you are also planning on making sure the new engine has lower risk of damage from detonations, for that you should check the diaphragm on the vacuum cup on the ignition module, check all the vacuum pipes and check for spark strength.

      Thanks! I will do that!
      The car will have stock boost pressure and will only run on 100octane- that will protect it as well i hope. :)
      Thanks for the comment!

    Hello. Thanks you for the detailed videos. I have a 1981 Renault 5 turbo. I need to replace the head gasket and i was wondering if you have somewhere in your video where you actually remove the head from the engine block and hoe you were able to keep the cylinder sleeves from coming out. really debating doing the job myself since most mechanics that can work on the car are too busy to take it in .

    • @SeasideGarage
      @SeasideGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I made a video about that also! You should be able to find it on my channel.. :)
      I had no issues with the sleeves... but I took it all apart after all.... :)
      Thanks for watching!

    Fine videoer du laver😊 Har du planer om og lave en video med en karburator renovering, skal nemlig selv igang med og renovere min egen.

    • @SeasideGarage
      @SeasideGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tak Peter!
      Jeg har faktisk allerede renoveret karburatoren på den! og jeg filmede det hele... desværre gik der noget galt med mit SD kort og alle klippene gik tabt... så desværre ikke.

      Seaside Garage det var da ærgerligt!
      Men der er vel ikk noget problem i og renovere sådan en?

    • @SeasideGarage
      @SeasideGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@peterkrogsgaard7489 Nej det er faktisk ret meget lige ud af landevejen... Det er en ganske simpel karburator der sidder på sådan en... :)
