There's nothing really wrong with the Wii U. It's a great console. It's just those certain things that stopped it from getting anywhere. Like those load times. And the marketing.

I 100% agreed but there’s one reason was not an excuse was the people (except Hard-Core Nintendo Gamers) were not look closely of the specs and details of the system or other words, the people were confused with the Console name and cannot tell difference with the Wii and Wii U. I’m very angry with that. I wanted to get Splatoon and this system.

I still use my Wii U extremely often, especially since games are cheap now and easy to collect. Gotta love SSB4, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Wind Waker HD, Breath of the Wild, Super Mario 3D World, and so on

@@jeffg1205 Close, in 87 I was 9. My little brother and I pooled all of our allowance money together to get it, still works great to this day. Heck, even my copy of the original zelda still has our save files from back then

I just got my Wii U for Christmas 2 months ago! My older brother passed it down to me when he got his Switch, and I love it! I still use my original Wii to play Gamecube games!

@@osamasonfan I already had the Wii before I thought of getting a Gamecube. When I realized I can play Gamecube games on my Wii, I had no reason to get a Gamecube. One of my other brothers has a Gamecube though!

If you're really interested, you can softmod your GameCube and play ROMs using a homebrew emulator. Can even run psp and PS1 games with the right emulators installed

Honestly, I like the Wii U's UI and eShop a lot more than the Switch's. It looks a lot more interesting, has music, they don't hide the mii maker, you don't have to scroll for ages to find digital games you haven't played in a while, you could video call your friends, quite a few online games (like minecraft) had built in voice chat, etc. Also Miiverse, man that was the coolest thing to 10 year old me. It let me message my friends and post things for the world to see before I had a phone, it was a great way to share funny and cool screenshots. I really wish they would bring some of these features to the switch because the switch has a better gimmick, library and 3rd party support. And it would be cool to see the better library meet the more interesting UI/online features.
Just bought a preowned one about a week ago. First thing I did was install haxchi. What I'm really impressed with is that once soft modded, this thing plays every Nintendo console from Wiiu back and every Nintendo handheld from DS back. With this plus my Switch and 3DS, both hacked, I now have the ability to play all Nintendo games ever made on real Nintendo hardware.
can u just buy the gamepad without the console and homebrew it? use it like a portable Nintendo Ds or something?
@@degenerate8228 No. The game pad will not work without the console. You could take something like the Steam Deck and turn it into an amazing portable emulation device.

I just got a Wii U and it’s surprisingly awesome. I’m mostly a PS4 and PC gamer but I was considering a Switch, that can wait while I enjoy my Wii U instead.

I bought the Wii U recently in 2017 cause back then I couldn’t get one and I didn’t know what the Switch was yet, and how it was going to be a hit and the Wii U was going to be discontinued...I’m so upset people who do have an Switch hate on this console. I still don’t have a Switch cause it’s like $469 and it’s not easy getting that money if you still live with your parents! I’m so jealous of Nintendo Switch owners...
I still own it and play every day since I have quite the backlog. Funny enough, half of my backlog counts as current games due to all those Wii U ports the Switch has. So, finishing Breath of the Wild, Captain Toad, Shantae Half Genie Hero etc... all of those are Switch game so I´m still playing current games :D

I played the Wii U the day it was made I play it everyday and the Wii and switch and sometimes the nes classic
I homebrewed my wii and it can play almost everything. For anyone who has an old wii u who likes classic and somewhat newer games. Just homebrew it.
I used to have Wii U for a short period from mid-2014 to early 2015 and then sold it to someone who can make a good use of my Wii U,Wii U was a niche (very) console in my country so most stores don't stock or carry Wii U games make it a huge hassle just to find games for it so I ended up playing nothing but Earthbound on it.
Now I found places that can get me Wii U consoles and games for cheap so now I'm hunting for Wii U again just to play Sonic Lost Worlds.
And I loved the looks of Wii U game case,mostly in cute sky blue!

You can still use the game pad for Wii games. You just have to point the Wii remote at the camera on the game pad.

@@WinPeck Yes, I was able to do that. I was able to do that on my friend’s Wii U before I helped setup the sensor bar. But even after the sensor bar was setup, I was still able to do that.

I am considering buying used Wii U with a bunch of games, mostly to play some Mario games (like Mario Maker), possible some Zelda, and Metroid via VC. I have few questions. Is it possible to play most of the games completely offline from disks forever? What about downloaded games? Can I download some games (i.e. for Mario Maker levels or games for VC) , and play them offline? Can I transfer them to SD cards and play from there? Are they some simple files so I can backup them easily, or you need to make image of the entire as card for backup? Is there Ethernet port, or only wifi available? The lack of BluRay is unfortunate. Also is DVD player region locked, and similarly will games from other regions on disks be playable? And is it possible to change language of interface with vanilla OS without any updates? Thanks!

Sebie Ripper there’s nothing wrong with the console itself, but Nintendo used bad marketing tactics leading some people to think it was just an add on to the Wii and also the commercials were cringe leading it to not sell well and be known as a commercial failure, and not many people bought it. ( like me cause I never got one) the console itself is fine and has a lot of games with virtual console and backwards compatibility (that I wish the switch had)

I play my Wii u almost every day because it's awesome and I don't see any reason for why people hate it. To me it still feels like it's new and now people are going around giving it hate because of the Nintendo switch. Well guess what Wii u haters, if the Wii u wasn't invented, what would of inspired Nintendo to make the switch?
Nothing different happens when you play it in 2019. There is just no Miiverse or Wii Shop or online (apart from smash Bros).

There is nothing wrong about still playing your old wii u. But if you wanna get a new console you should get a switch instead.

It's worth it because it's backward compatible with Wii games if you don't own that. Also, you can soft mod it pretty easy and add emulators and more games!

Soo.... My wii discs aren't working on my wii u. My wii u is from japan so i cant read it. Please help. When i insert a wii disc it shows a question mark icon. But my wii u splatoon disc is working properly tho
