- Firefighters in Greece were struggling to contain 82 wildfires burning across the country, 64 of which started on Sunday, the hottest day of the summer so far.

As well as huge blazes on the island of Rhodes, which forced 19,000 people to flee, wildfires also broke out on the island of Corfu and in the northern Peloponnese region, triggering further evacuations.

As an Australian who has witnessed several major wildfires my heart goes out to you all, the reprocessing of fire is a lasting legacy for how people survive rebuild and move forward, prayers for you all
How is it in Australia now?
It's awful for people there but they have a chance to get away, the poor animals don't. This breaks my heart.

Here in Greece, it’s well known that the government often starts such fires to redevelop the land for expensive housing and wind-farms. Also, the year before last 27 people were arrested for arson.

Former Greek politicians have offered to bow their heads to Russia for the Be-200 aircraft, developed in the city of Taganrog, Russia, which can take on 12 tons of water in 12 seconds. but politicians in power are in no hurry to say that these planes can help Greece

The fires were started by arsonists. Seems like a coordinated exercise!
the fires are able to spread so quickly because of long, hot and dry periods. These are caused by global warming. This is only going to get worse unless we act now.

Here in Liverpool uk 🇬🇧 the council have not been cutting all the dead strub on road sides , parks fields for months it’s over grown everywhere they are doing this to us

If as has been alleged by Firefighters in Greece, and we know that the situation is often the same here in the UK, that these fires were started deliberately, then climate change is not the main factor, the main factor are the arsonists. Wind and dry undergrowth, is always a factor in these situations. We even get wildfires here in the UK.
So the increasing average temperatures (Climate Change) have nothing to do with the drying of vegetation, increase in type and strength of winds? I have lived most of my life in one of the most fire prone areas in the world. Lived through the 46C Black Saturday in Aus. In the last 2 decades I have observed: 1. the ferocity and the unpredictable direction of winds has increased. 2. temperatures have increased. 3. indigenous trees are falling and prematurely dying at a much higher rate. 4. "Crazy" storms are common now.
Pollute your own back yard and suffer the consequences! Humans are reaping what they have sown.

In a nutshell, The drier and hotter an environment is, the more it fuels a fire. All you need to know. Now think about it... Heatwave plus ignition equals what?

Pump billions of gallons of sea water with motors and hoses it will STOP the fires because it takes time for 🔥 fire fighters to come help you with very limited amount of water.
Media showing weather maps like that are lava flows. They even had the UK showing in orange when it has been raining and freezing haha.

I guess people realise that, on average, about 40,000 hectares of land are burnt in a typical summer in Greece and in some years it is many more times that - 271,000 hectares burned in 2001 and more than 100,000 hectares in 2000 and 2021 and 1985 and 1988. It is tragic, but it is a fact. So far this year about 29,000 ha has been affected. The media seem to be whipping up hysteria this year over things that are part of normal life in the mediterranean - same goes for the heat.

This is not a result of climate change (which does exist). This is poor land management and poor behaviour by people regarding litter, fires and arson. The flash point of dry vegetation is 300 degrees C.
