Throughout my life, I’ve traveled all over the world. When I was in my mid 20s, I went to the Philippines and went to Baguio city, the rice terraces, Manila, BF homes, Cebu with a Filipino friend of mine. I have never met throughout all my travels people as friendly and as embracing with genuine smiles as the Filipino people.
American military men brought country music and the country lifestyle to Baguio. Baguio is a tropical Nashville. Both are country music capitals in their respective nations. Yet, Baguio is growing!
the biggest parks are Camp John Hay and Burnham Park. The first modern schools were American and that is WHY EVERY Filipino speaks English fluently is because Tagalog and English are taught at the same time since kindergarten.

I am Mexican born in California I was in Baguio last week amazing weather , beautiful people, went to the strawberry farm and let me tell you it has California weather ifykyk!
Cultural identity has such an arbitrary quality to it. You could say also that you are Asian or African. Like... all the gueritos in the U.S., "wasps"... they're all ultimately African-American. Even the Mayflower peeps... Anglo, Norman, "originating" in the steppes, but before that from Asia, but coming also ultimately from Africa, and before that, a swamp. Komusta ka, mi negrito!
The weather in Baguio is more like in Seattle where it is cloudy, cool, and rainy most of the year except a couple of months where it‘s dry and warmer.
I was born and raised in Baguio. When Camp John Hay was an American R&R base our family had a pass to enter and that's where I learned about burgers, fries, milk shake, and 5 cents scotch whiskey. When I was a teen in the middle 1950s Baguio then was in its splendor and considered one of the best places in southeast Asia. I went to Manila for college then to the States in 1966. Sad to say Baguio today is not the same as I know. There is overcrowding and overbuilding. A beautiful place marred by progress without planning.
Michael - you just went to the city center. Did not go to the spots which are near your place like the Botanical Garden, Wright Park, Mansion, Mines View Park, Good Shepherd, Lourdes Grotto and Mirador Heritage Park.
I'm a Filipino citizen working abroad for more than 2 decades,I just found out from your vlog that Philippines is a great place, and have a lot of beautiful places to visit.i visited a lot places in UK ,and Europe but I never been visit Philippines due to my work. Lucky the people living in Baguio, they have a very good weather.Hope to see more interesting places on your videos.Godbless you my friend.
Its in Maharlika where you can find what your looking for so many printed Baguio City hoodies, tshirt any souveners too. Theres a lot sir.. explore more.. ask the people where is MAHARLIKA is.. or Inside Public Market where the fresh strawberry and strawberry Jams etc. they will tell you the location. Enjoy your Stay sir.. 👍😊👍👍👍

@@tropical.ManilaHe did ask people in the market at the beginning part of the video but they just pointed a place and they didn't specifically say the name of the place.
I live in La Union and go up the mountain at least once a month, especially to cool off when the beaches are too hot. I was getting ready to fly back to California and needed something warmer. I found a hoodie that said Baguio, sweaters, shirts, and other touristy stuff at Mines View. 2XL and 3XL. Yes, Baguio is a tourist destination but it is also a university town because of the several renowned universities located there.
I'm from Baguio. I was born and raised here, but my roots aren't from here. Anyway, I think you haven't seen the rest of the city yet. Your trip was focused mainly in downtown Baguio. You forgot that since this is a tourist destination, there are a ton of other places to see-- Camp John Hay, Wright Park, Botanical Garden, Mines View Park, etc. And the sweaters that says "Baguio City" that you were looking for are mostly found in shops at the tourists spots. 😅 And yes, we are quite far from the places in south Luzon, but very near Ilocos, La Union, Pangasinan, Isabela and the rest of the places in Northern Luzon. The reason why you didn't see any of the Baguio locals around, is because we hate it when tourists flock and take over our city. THEY ARE VERY MUCH WELCOME HERE, but most of us hate the crowd and the traffic and so we'd stay at home and just go out to work or run errands. Maybe next time, if and when you come back, you can ask a local to help you get around the city. It's nice to have watched your video , though. Stay safe!😊❤
I miss home. I am from Itogon Benguet, and all the places you visited reminds me of home. Now I am back abroad for work, but my heart is definitely there. Glad that you enjoyed your stay. And it is true that even I am from that place, I feel like a tourist walking around Baguio. Especially at night, I love the lights.
The whole stretch of Session( where you saw the chalk arts) is close every Sunday for locals , tourists and artists to enjoy. Opposite of the Malcolm square is where you can find the massive collection of the souvenirs you where looking for. 😊 And yes you cannot trust Baguio weather. 1 minute its hot then another minute its cold. Hope you can explore the outskirts of the city next time.
@@ThatPhilippinesLife just across the end of that uphill road is Maharlika building, where you can find souvenir shops. The upper end is the SM, the opposite end is the place you where looking for Sir. Unfortunately, I haven't seen from the video that you entered or passed by through it😊😊😊.
For Baguio jackets, you have to go to 2nd Floor Hangar Market. you just passed by it. It was on the 2nd floor of the vegetable market. They sell clothes upstairs

You missed the tourist spots of Baguio. Most of it are few minutes drive/ride away from the center, and it’s there where you can find a lot of souvenirs- from clothing and others.
It's one of the good city place to live coz of the cold weather but housing rent and prices of buying apartment or house it's quite xpensive .I love Baguio city . Thanks for Sharing

Baguio is one of the best places in the Philippines. The hotel you stayed in, though, is the same one I stayed in in 2017, Golden Pine Hotel. Did you have a great stay? When I stayed there in 2017, it sucked. The hallways were always dark and creepy. My room was so dated and the bathroom lacked lighting. The sink was clogged. Add to that, the people at the front desk were either unfriendly or weird. My first night in Baguio, I went out into town and past midnight I got a call from an unknown number which I didnt answer. It kinda creeped me out. The day I was to leave, I got a text from the front desk reminding me of my check out time, and I realized it was the same number that called me the first night. When I told this to the guy at the front desk, he just laughed but didnt explain to me why someone from front desk was calling me past midnight. Weird. I wont stay at that hotel again. Lots of newer and better hotels in Baguio.
wow, what a beautiful place with nice weather in the middle of the Philippines. Seems like a good place for an expat age 74 to move to and enjoy the local atmosphere. I'm starting my venture in the Philippines in Cebu in order to get acclimated to the weather there. eventually, I'd like to move to a cooler area and just explore what that area has to offer. From what I saw on your video, you just scratched the surface (I understand you only had a few days). where in Baguio is a good condo with reasonable prices fully furnished for an old geezer like me to move to. I'd like to be close to the market area, but also in a nice peaceful area with nice restaurants, entertainment, and parks. I'm a people watcher, I enjoy watching people having fun and I like meeting people. I'm a bit shy, but I love talking to people, even someone I don't know.
I'm Filipino, and I would recommend Baguio for elderly expats, especially those from North America. Weather is more appealing to people from cold climates. Food such as veggies and fruits are cheap as Baguio is near the mountain farms. Coffee is good and cheap too. The locals of Baguio (and the Cordillera region) are the Igorots and they are good in English and many of them, especially the old timers, are fond of Americans as there were many Americans in Baguio during the US colonization of the Philippines. If you would live in the non-tourist areas of Baguio, where there are less people from other parts of the country, you would find it more peaceful as Igorots are more reserved and serious people. They basically keep to themselves and mind their own business. They are more concerned with their work. I highly recommend Baguio for you. It's also my dream retirement place and I am from Metro Manila.
Michael, you should once in a while check your viewers’ comments because there are some suggestions they can recommend you to visit as part of places of interest there in Baguio City. Anyways, hope you enjoyed your tour in the city and thank you for including Baguio city in your lists.
I guess the only question remains is how is their hospital services? Do they have hospitals outfitted well enough to handle emergencies, like heart attacks and strokes, until you can get to a specialist?
Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center is being expanded to be the largest general hospital here in the Philippines with 1,500 hospital beds. It has among the best hospital facilities in the country and will have better facilities because of the expansion.
with baguio's size which is small, it has 4 major hospitals. 1 is public which is the baguio general hospital and one of the biggest public hospitals in the philippines, the other 3 are private of which 2 of those cater to rich people, comparable to st lukes in makati thats why not only baguio is a tourist city but its also the medical center in northern luzon. nearby baguio which is La trinidad, it has 2 hospitals as well so it's not a problem if there are some medical emergencies you might encounter while living here in Baguio.
ASKING ABOUT OUR HOSPITALS? YES WE DO HAVE A QUALITY SERVICES ADVANCE STATE OF THE ART EQUIPMENTS..BAGUIO GENERAL HOSPITAL IS THE BEST...BEST DOCTORS,NURSES and PERSONNELS...AND MOST GENEROUS...
I’ve watched this and you’re first video of Baguio. And it seems, you missed going to tourist areas, and just stayed in the city center. Souvenir shops with clothes, wood crafts, hand crafted accessories, magnets, key chains, are all available there. You could’ve gone to Wright Park (with the Mansion), Botanical Garden, Mines View Park (and Good Shepherd), Camp John Hay, Strawberry Farm, PMA, Tam-Awan village (and the Igorot Stone Kingdom), etc. Aside from this, people go to Baguio to try famous restaurants and bars. Those make Baguio popular, not just the weather.
The relatively cool air in the nation's summer capital may not necessarily be clean. Baguio City has topped a list of Philippine cities with the most polluted air, according to a World Health Organization (WHO) study. I went there many times, the traffic is really awful.
It was a longtime goal of mine to visit Baguio for the first time during the flower festival. But, with how busy & crowded it is even NOT at festival time, I wonder how difficult it is to actually see the parades well. Do you have to camp out overnight for good spots? I am not young, though in good health & strong still, but that camping out thing is not happening anymore… nuh uh✋🏼🚫🤣
@@wintersojourn9356 its funny because i think a lot of us locals don't watch the parade either, its just too much people skin to skin from front, back, left and right. Never had i encountered so many people i know who had watched the actual parade in the entirety of their life, maybe 3 or 4 only, usually its only after the parade is done when some locals decide to go. so needless to say majority of people who watched the parade are visitors.
@regiigu960- I had a longer reply but ooops I erased it! Ty for replying🙂. Maybe I will focus on simply getting there to Baguio & not worry about festival time. That’s a plan. Yes we never tour our own areas, do we? Unless we are hosting visitors….
Baguio is just so crowded now, wayway different from the 80s when camp John hay was still an American base, shanty houses now instead of pine trees....
Best spots that I would recommend in or near baguio city are igorot stone kingdom, mirador heritage park, mt. kalugong, & strawberry farm. If you have time you can also visit the upper lands sagada (hanging coffins & amazing caves, blue mountain), atok (2nd highest point in the Philippines, & amazing views) & banaue (banaue & batad rice terraces)
I can relate to your review about Baguio City as i feel the same way about Niagara Falls coming from Toronto. I always love visiting Niagara Falls. So clean, lots to do and see there, lively at night but so touristy. Wouldnt want to live in Niagara Falls but a great place to get away on the weekend
Seems like a survivable place in the PH for someone who detests heat. The combination of a clean city without trikes and a university town is very appealing. The only thing is that is feels fairly congested to me, no wide open spaces and as many people have observed over the years buildings have replaced trees. Not a good trend.
The mall is really cool with the Christmaslights and decorations. City Market is amazing too. The restaurant you showed is Good Taste. My favorite place to eat there. Robotic servers bring you food and drink. Cucumber lemonade is awsome. American splitting time there and the US. This is a magical city and I believe it is because of the people. Never met a nicer, kinder, gentle people then Luzon and Benguet. Bagio, LA Trinidad, Tomay, Acop, Sablan. Amazing family values and Igorot people are shy and conservative. My wife is Igorot plus her 200 family members so yea, I know I speak the truth. I will retire there for sure. Thx for the blog man.
I have been to Baguio once back in 2003, Nice place its never hot there, its always Cold.. but going there ,the trip is just too far for me.Its like 7 hours going there from the city of manila.
These last two videos should have been called the quest for warm clothes. BTW. The census reports a population of 375 thousand. I think the major mall would sell the hoodie you're looking for. I really like Baguio. I never miss a free breakfast. I think I could live off of rice dishes. The hours you keep are ridiculous. Lots of anime art on the street. Can't believe you couldn't find a hoodie in the mall. Very nice visit.
I just love to watch and listen to your videos. There's a couple of others doing the same but yours and Johnathan's are mostly boots on the ground and that gives us on the outside looking in a much better idea of what life in the Philippines is truly like. Good job.❤
Hi , you should have gone to Maharlika livelihood Center where all the Baguio sweater, hoodie stuffs are being sold.... Thanks buddy for your positive thoughts on The beautiful City Baguio that is.... All the best!
You find the sweaters that have Baguio in it at the Marbay area. at the basement of the center when you go down from where you're at at the hilltop/Kayang section
Hi Michael, I'm so glad there is someone like yourself promoting and so proud of our motherland. I thank you and hope I can be of any use on your journey. Perhaps you can stay at my empty beach house in Iba, Zambales for your perusal at no cost however long you wish to stay. Wish you well and keep up the good deeds and may you have more followers to come. Thank you, Joseph
You can easily find clothing with Baguio lettering and strawberries at the tourist sites like Mines View, Wright Park and Botanical Garden. You find them too at some bus stations maybe? Strawberries in Baguio grow in La Trinidad.
Hi, I'm from Baguio. If only I had seen you I could have brought you to Marbay or Black Market for your jacket or shirt with Baguio City printed on it. 😊😊. I'm glad you liked Baguio. Thanks for featuring my city in your Vlog. I'm now following ❤️ your channel. Have a great stay in the Summer Capital of the Philippines.
Thank you for actually telling the prices and less of the touristy stuff. I will be moving here or tagaytay cause of the weather. LOVE the batman suite!!!
We used to spend summers in La Union by the beach when we were kids, and on the weekends, we would go to Baguio just to cool down, ride ponies, take a boat ride, eat at Cafe by the Ruins and buy Good Sheperd ube jams, some strawberry jams and peanut brittle. Great childhood memories. I heard it's gotten so crowded, but I'd love to come back one day.
Iam happy and exciting of your new adventure. New subscriber here. Iam from iloilo but iam been here in California USA for 20 years plus. Reminiscing my childhood years. So nice looking forward to retire there too. God bless
I suggest that you also visit Sagada, it's cooler than Baguio, although it's not a city. It's also a tourist spot. A 150 kilometer from Baguio. Some Canadians say it's little Toronto..though it's a municipality
I was stationed there at Camp John Hay. Beautiful back then, they have cut down many of the pine trees now. I remember having a fire for heat on cold mornings! I married a Benguet lady!
You might be able to find a good deal on the hoodie your looking for at 2nd Floor Hangar Market. You were pretty near when you spoke with the locals who called you over. Also near those carrot washing vendors. There's an entrance near those carrots and near the coffee bean shop. I grew up in that market. Maharlika is also an option.

@@ramesesrommella.macatol1247thanks for sharing
That's an important consideration, which he totally skipped.
ASKING ABOUT OUR HOSPITALS? YES WE DO HAVE A QUALITY SERVICES ADVANCE STATE OF THE ART EQUIPMENTS..BAGUIO GENERAL HOSPITAL IS THE BEST...BEST DOCTORS,NURSES and PERSONNELS...AND MOST GENEROUS...
Interesting video enjoyed the tour. Just a bit to cold for me and I would miss the beach. Thanks for taking us along
nice
I reckon you can pick the locals as they are the ones just wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Fascinating place Mike worthy of way more exploring later.
Love how they wash the carrots in a bucket of mud water. Yeah, I think I'd be washing them again... and again.... before I ate one
Carrots do grow in dirt.. 😂 maybe the was step 1 of the washing?
@@beachtrash I sure hope so!!
John Hay used to be a US Air force station. Check it out. Also, air bnb in John Hay has quite reasonable rates.
The relatively cool air in the nation's summer capital may not necessarily be clean. Baguio City has topped a list of Philippine cities with the most polluted air, according to a World Health Organization (WHO) study. I went there many times, the traffic is really awful.
WOW. Good to know. In Hawaii, Many Philippinos always talked of retirement in Baguio.
This is video is the first time I ever saw it.
LaTrinidad for strawberries and great fresh veggies
Was there late January to early march during most of the flower festival.
It was a longtime goal of mine to visit Baguio for the first time during the flower festival. But, with how busy & crowded it is even NOT at festival time, I wonder how difficult it is to actually see the parades well. Do you have to camp out overnight for good spots? I am not young, though in good health & strong still, but that camping out thing is not happening anymore…
nuh uh✋🏼🚫🤣
Will be in Baguio on the 12th. Always love spending time here.
Determined to find a Baguio hoodie!😊
Go to Maharlika livelihood complex..
Love the video thank a lot
I am 63 and I love your videos! Try to come in our province and you'll love it!
Baguio is just so crowded now, wayway different from the 80s when camp John hay was still an American base, shanty houses now instead of pine trees....
The Baguio City hoodies and sweaters are sold on the mines view and Botanical gardens area
Seems the mini bus at 15:18/15:19 is our shuttle bus here at the City Hall of Tabuk City. Wow! Nice!!!
Since you are in Baguio, try visit nearby area, Binguet more cooler than Baguio
baguio is part of benguet..
I have been to Baguio once back in 2003, Nice place its never hot there, its always Cold.. but going there ,the trip is just too far for me.Its like 7 hours going there from the city of manila.
4 hrs now with the express way
I didn’t realize how tall some of the mountains are. Some as high as 3000 meters or 10,000 ft. It reminded me of the mountains back in California.
Interesting video enjoyed the tour.
Nice market tour, thanks for sharing. 👍
Come back on February it will be a flower festival called "Panagbenga" , lots of fun and lots to see
I just love to watch and listen to your videos. There's a couple of others doing the same but yours and Johnathan's are mostly boots on the ground and that gives us on the outside looking in a much better idea of what life in the Philippines is truly like. Good job.❤
I came from Baguio, thanks for appreciating. So many people
I hope you'll try la Trinidad only 30 minutes from Baguio
Very Informative vid! Thanks Mike!!
BAGUIO CITY, IS REALLY AN AWESOME CITY.
Thanks!
This is very generous, thank you so very much
Hi , you should have gone to Maharlika livelihood Center where all the Baguio sweater, hoodie stuffs are being sold....
Thanks buddy for your positive thoughts on The beautiful City Baguio that is....
All the best!
You find the sweaters that have Baguio in it at the Marbay area. at the basement of the center when you go down from where you're at at the hilltop/Kayang section
I'm going there on 29th this month and stay for 3 days want to have a fresh air outside in benguet area
Baguio shirts, hoodies, all such souvenir stuffs are in the market area, close by the strawberry market too.
A lovely place!
Probably the city I’d want retire to. Zamboanga, Cebu, Angeles City all too hot, too noisy. Air quality is terrible in Angeles.
You can get shirt with Baguio name on it in SM souvenirs dept.
Try SM Manila.
If you have extra time,go to atok benguet, much colder where veggies is getting frozen in the garden.
You can easily find clothing with Baguio lettering and strawberries at the tourist sites like Mines View, Wright Park and Botanical Garden.
You find them too at some bus stations maybe?
Strawberries in Baguio grow in La Trinidad.
Go to Botanical Garden, lots of sweaters there or Mines View.
Thanks for the great content as usual. I am looking at leaving Dumaguete for Baguio soon.
Great video smart guy who knows what he is doing. thank you sir
Pusong piony ako tara na biyahe tayo i wanna live in philippines so bad hopefully soon. great vlog
❤❤❤Baguio more places to see!❤
Love it there!! Definitely at night!
My beautiful Fhilipna and I went last year! Took are 125 mio on 16 hour round trip to there!
Nice content. The closed road is Session Rd. It is closed for cars on Sundays so people can have fun in that area. It started during the pandemic.
My Daughter is there taking her board review for nursing.
Try SM mall, You can find many unique things there and they tend to cater to tourists without the huge markup.
Thanks for sharing that is really a great memory
Iam happy and exciting of your new adventure. New subscriber here. Iam from iloilo but iam been here in California USA for 20 years plus. Reminiscing my childhood years. So nice looking forward to retire there too. God bless
Welcome! It is a fun channel & informative vlog & comment section🙂
I suggest that you also visit Sagada, it's cooler than Baguio, although it's not a city. It's also a tourist spot. A 150 kilometer from Baguio. Some Canadians say it's little Toronto..though it's a municipality
Cool
I was stationed there at Camp John Hay. Beautiful back then, they have cut down many of the pine trees now. I remember having a fire for heat on cold mornings! I married a Benguet lady!
You might be able to find a good deal on the hoodie your looking for at 2nd Floor Hangar Market. You were pretty near when you spoke with the locals who called you over. Also near those carrot washing vendors. There's an entrance near those carrots and near the coffee bean shop. I grew up in that market. Maharlika is also an option.
Great you visited there, much amazing if you can visit Sagada,I had a house and relatives there
You can go to the opposite side across the road after the first market you went in, All the souvenir items are there,
I’m shocked how big Baguio city has grown I was there in 1986 and it was a small place
Thanks for sharing
Will be interesting to see where you eventually settle as each place you visit becomes your most favourtie place. Keep up great vlogs.
Welcome to Baguio,I live here
