    Wonderful review. Watched your software deep-dive as well - also excellent. This little amp feels like it was made just for me! My speakers are B&W CM5s2’s and 2x REL T5i subs. For 4-5 years I ran these through an Emotiva XDA-2 DAC/Preamp connected to a XPA-200 Amplifier. The REL subs connected via Speakon high level of course. It always sounded great to me, but I knew the Emotiva stack (which I’ve had for a decade or so) was restraining the speakers somewhat. To cut a long story short, I stumbled on this little 1120 quite by accident and after a few days of research and review watching I have pulled the trigger. I did read that one MUST NOT connect subs using the high level outputs, but I’m cool with using the low level outputs now - considering the software bass management will more than make up for that! Soooo excited!! Cheers

    • @stjernholmreviews
      @stjernholmreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you for watching from down under! Using the low level LFE input is preferred on your subs, given that there is no filtering built in on that input. If there for some reason is filtering, you should use the top low level input, with the crossover filter set to the highest possible frequency. If it is possible to place them in corners of the room, you will get even more juice from them :-). Let us know how it worked, and if you find that the 1120 was an upgrade to your previous system!

    What a great review! You can immediately tell that person has pro audio background based on the overall approach to sound, specific wording etc. I've been contemplating between the active setup, to mimic my studio monitor one (alas with wireless features and all that fluff). But the room correction, 8 band eq with curve control...that's DAW territory right there. So exciting. My only question: how's the built-in phono stage on Lyngdorf? Thanks

    I’ve just moved; I’m looking to change my 10 y.o. all in one marantz melody M-CR 610 with a new streaming amplifier updated with the best in class digital source. The room is little difficult to manage(a 18 sq meters (3x6) in a L 30 sq meters sittingroom with 2 windows and a bookshelf at the opposite of the speakers (2 Elipson Planet L and a sub Focal Air).
    My pick would be in the range of Lyngdorf TDAI 1120 or Cambridge Audio Evo 150 or Nad C 700 or POWERMODE (2021). What do you suggest most? Thank you in advance. Keep on doing top notch reviews.

      The Lyngdorf is the absolutely best if you want to combine one or two subs with the Planet L`s, due to the sophisticated setup possibilities. Check out the deep dive video for more on the awesome setup features. This is where the lyngdorf is miles ahead of everybody else. In terms of raw sound / musicality its a harder choice, but for the setup you are suggesting, I am confident that the 1120 will be the much better choice. (get a extra Focal air 🙂)

      @@stjernholmreviews Nice review! What’s worst for me, is that after a few months of using the BluOS app you notice that it’s actually really buggy. The Spotify integration is very unreliable, volume reporting is sometimes incorrect (leading to big jumps when changing volume) and recently the Library connected to my NAS started mixing up files (says it plays song A but plays something completely different). BluOS support team responds to feedback but is unable to solve everything. There doesn’t seem to be much innovation going on anymore at Bluesound. That’s why I’m looking at alternatives.

      @@44Bigs I agree. Especially on the NAS integration. It is slow, but in my experience rather good at identifying tracks. No one else has the support of services like bluSound has, but the innovation and development, fine tuning of the (lets be honest) sucky userinterface lets it down. In my opinon BluSound COULD be the preferred platform for all the little niche HIFI manufactures out there, if trey figured out af way to sell it. Instead, it seems more likely that their lack of attention will lead to a slow and painfull death for the platform, and that is a really a pity. I just put on a CD... what a simple joy 🤩

    Good review, subscribed! Besides brand matching, is there an added value to use Lyngdorfs speakers and sub(s) with the TDAI1120 - couldn't you just use any speaker and sub? And is it possible to run the Lyngdorfs subs wireless?

    • @stjernholmreviews
      @stjernholmreviews  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes you can use any speaker and sub, BUT... the advantage is that when using lyngdorf speakers they know the properties, and add extra "secret sauce" extracting every inch of performance from them. They dont do wireless, but I am sure you can get a sender/receiver system that would work for a sub. Only thing to keep in mind is any latency such system would introduce. (Can be compensated for at well in the amp, but you need to know how much). Let us know what you end up with! For more advanced setup, feel free to get a half hour remote consulting. liked very much your review! I wonder if I can use Tidal, Deezer or Quboz without having a streamer. By the other hand, I read its an all digital amp, so that means it doesn't has a DAC cause it uses another technology to work. Would it be a good idea to use an external DAC to improve the sound? I will be using KEFLS50 mate speakers, and maybe adding a sub, I also wanted to make sure it has the power to manage the LS50. On the other hand I was thinking in maybe Naim Uniti Atom or a more analogue cofiguratio like Hegel or music fidelity, but just loved the TDAI...so wanted to be sure its a good match. Thank u a lot!!

    • @stjernholmreviews
      @stjernholmreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tidal and Qobuz can be played in full quality via ROON to the 1120. Otherwise you will stream via googlecast or airplay from their apps. You not get much from using a external DAC, as all signal processing in the 1120 is digital from signal enters to it leaves :-) The LS50 is not very efficient, nor is it a loud playing speaker, but you should be fine. With the 1120, you will be able to add up to two subwoofers at a later date, making a very powerfull system.

You could consider adding two, smaller subwoofers instead of one big, and use the "Boundary subwoofer" concept, that will make your system very powerful, allow you to use much higher crossover frequencies, thus taking load of the amp. Thanks for this comprehensive review. I'm thinking of using the 1120 as a Preamp for active speakers, but as it only has one set of outputs how would you incorporate a subwoofer and manage the high and low pass settings? I presume that's not possible? The same question applies if the 1120 was feeding a power amp.

    • @stjernholmreviews
      @stjernholmreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tony. You are absolutely right. Thats not possible, as we only have one (yet very flexible) set of line output. So in the case of active speakers, you would need a sub that either accepts speaker input (so you can use the speaker output for sub) OR has built in filtering. You would then need to set it up as precisely as you could by ear, and then run RP for the system as a whole. Good luck, let us know what you end up doing here in the comments.

    • @stjernholmreviews
      @stjernholmreviews  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello Clanwhie. Thank you for watching the channel! Unfortunately, watts are not watts... It is measured in so many different ways that it is almost a joke. IF the two amps are measured in the same way, then you can kind of compare them. How a amp behaves with your speakers, can only your ears judge. The rega is a pretty warm sounding amp, and you might find absolute heaven using that as a power amp with the 1120 doing all its modern and convenient stuff, allowing you to also listen to the 1120 doing everything and see what you like best. Trust your ears, have fun playing with it! The 1120 CAN do wonders for a speaker/room combination and is great in daily use. PS: There is almost no difference between 60 and 75 watts (measured the same way). 120W will only give you 3 db more headroom. To get 6 dB you would need 240W and so on.. Most important thing is the efficiency of your speakers vs. the listening distance and room size. I was about to treat my room with +/ 1000,- EUR budget (some ceiling panels, bass trap, and absorbtion panels), when I came upon this little fella. Physically treating the room would be useful either way for sure, but is problematic due to the easthetics, and the wife (bummer, I know). Would this device room correction sw ability substitute for, or even outperform, some room treatment? The Lyngdorf would be obviously much less visible solution, just would need to save a bit more. Currently I use rega planar 2 + dali zensor 3 + rel t/5i + marantz pm6006 + spotify/radio from TV optical. Cheers. Joe

      @stjernholmreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Joe. Thank you for watching the channel and the good question! No room correction can outperform a great room to begin with. It it might be the next best thing. The worst things in a room is reflections that will "smear" the sound, and the physics of low frequencies that behave very different from room to room. Room correction is really good at helping to smooth out bass response, but can never remove early. annoying reflections.
      Try to fix the worst with wife friendly solutions like heavy curtains in front of windows and stuff like "fixing a wall" with a nice big picture (made from a acoustic material on a deeper frame 🙂. Ceelings can also be padded with (more or less) invisible acoustic materials like "echofon".. or how about "Honey! I just love this carpet". Without knowing your room, what you typically will be looking for is to get rid of any standing waves (being created in between hard walls opposite of each other) and the worst early reflections. With those thing under decent control, Room perfect can take you several steps further. For the purist, all room correction is extra stuff in the signal chain. You can say, the less the room correction need to do, the better! Good luck with the room! Flowers sometimes help 😜

      That totally depends on whats most important to you. If you want to add boundary woofers to your setup, its the Lyngdorf. If you want the most elegant user experience, it is the lyngdorf too. • @stjernholmreviews
      @stjernholmreviews  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Its a tough one. With the 1120, you get all the tools needed to achieve a very "correct" sound that you from there can shape to your preferences using voicings. In my experience, if your room is bad or half bad, speaker placement not optimal and so on.. it can really make your sound.
      On the other hand. SOME people, might prefer (or short term, THINK they prefer) a more "bumpy ride" response-wise. e.g if being used to something different.
      Long term, I am not that crazy about the amps in the thing. But everything else, is just great. Quality software, rock solid performance, great app & web interface TONS of possibilities.
      In my review, I suggest trying using it as a pre-amp with another power amp of choice. It works great, and it can be fun to play and compare what you like. Let us know what you learn on the journey. Thanks for watching. Consider to subscribe!

      Thank you for your answer. I listened to the TDAI at the dealer's shop, no corrections applied, though the listening room is acoustically treated. The first speakers pair were Q acoustics (not know which model exactly, but floor standers), socond B&Ws S603. B&Ws had more balanced highs and bass compared to Q's in which bass was a bit dominant. Both speakers had in common accurate presentation, I'd say a bit clinical. Input was TIDAL.
      I live in an apartment, living room 20m2+ with large windows on two walls (no drapes). Speakers DALI Oberon 5. So, I believe room correction could be a game changer in my case.

      Its not a drawback if you dont need the power. Also, it is actually pretty powerful, as it delivers 120 watts per channel in 4 ohms. Daren, are you referring to a loudness curve, where you want to lift both bass and treble for lower level listening? You would simply goto the web UI, enter setup / voicing setup name a new voicing and click "add" and create it there. There is several ways to archive the result. One way, could be to set filter 1 to "parametric", select say, 1000 hz at the target frequency, and set a wide Q, try 0.5 and gain to -3. Then save the filter. You test it by loading the voicing like you normally would. If you want more, try with higher negative gain settings. You can also experiment with the center frequency (try 1500 hz) and the with by changing the Q value. The filter simply will dampen the mid frequencies in order to achieve what you are looking for. It can also be done by using low shelf and high shelf filters, but the way i just described is probably the easiest way. Let us know what you learned on your system. Thanks for watching the channel.

      @@clemleg123 I know it sounds like it is the same, but it is not. Far from it. The C399 is a great unit, no doubt. Here is the things to consider: 1) Subwoofer integration. The Lyngdorf does boundary subwoofer setups using two subs IN STEREO, allowing you to use very high crossovers. It offers many filter types as well as dedicated speaker EQ for each speaker, INCLUDING the subs. You can adjust the timing of each speaker, and ROOMPERFECT is very different from dirac in the way it approaches room correction (everything is covered in the lyngdorf videos). On top of it all, you have the 8 band voicing DSP available and the slickest remote app ever. I like Blusound as well, its very flexible but can be a little "flakey". Last, the price.. You get the nice Hypex amps with the NAD. If you need the extra 6 dBs of headroom they offer? The dirac and blusound is an option module on top of the price of the c399, so it will end up being at least 25% more expensive than the 1120. Main takeaway should be, that the C399 is way less sophisticated in the DSP features and cant match the daily user experience. So you need to weigh the other things in order to know what is right for you. Do you need / Use subs? Do you need the extra power with your speakers? How do you listen to music? Is blusound the right for you? Do your room need a lot of correction? ... and so on. Good luck.

      I use it as DAC and connect it to my Naim supernait 3 via RCA cables. I am Roon user. So all the fancy screens of Rose are less interesting to me.
      I ask about sound quality. Will it be an upgrade to move to HIFI ROSE RS150b?

      You are spot on with your observation. Danes have adapted english technical words, where the sweden and norway invented their own technical words. The danes were lazy that way! 😁. Just look up the word for "computer" in all three languages. 🤪. When the scandinavians meet, we danes often switch to english (even though its embarrasing) if the conversation gets to technical. Norwegian television made a really funny sketch about the phenomenon in english: th-cam.com/video/s-mOy8VUEBk/w-d-xo.html. enjoy!

      Totally depends on what is most important to you. The Lyngdorf is on another planet when looking at the possibilities for sound tailoring and subwoofer integration.

    If tone control and EQ can’t be controlled on the app then it’s of no use to me.

      That is just keeping the app limited to what you need in daily life. If you want to dig in, you just open the webinterface and you can nerd away like no other. That you can also do just using the browser on your device.

      @@stjernholmreviews Yes I learned from a Lyngdorf video that you don’t need to use a computer you can simply open the browser site on your iPad.

    Wordy and unclear analysis. Review Contains some good points, but they are sporadic. Hard to get a good picture of reviewed gear.

      Please expand on the statement to highten the IQ level of the conversation. Anything else out there, that can do what it does in a easy to use package, since you make that statement?
