Remember a scene from Robot Chicken "Pizza Brutality" that sums up the race debate in the TMNT community the best... Leonardo: "Hate asians? We are asian..." Michelangelo: "Asian? We're Italian, Dude..." Splinter: "You're freaking Turtles!
I also see it when Shredder after gets crushed, there is like a shockwave of difference where the kids and Danny truly saw what is the right thing to do in their lives and realize that their real family is what matters most.
To me, there are two ways to go about being a social outcast. You either live like a Ninja and practice the Monty Python Art of How NOT to be Seen. Or you join a group and join the Dark Side being controlled by a Evil entity disguised as Good.
Imagine a universe where Raph adopts the Shredder’s views about being a reject, and joins him!!! And instead of getting beatdown on a rooftop, and the Turtles regrouping at the farm, tending to Raph… RAPH is the leader of the attack on April’s home/shop, and the Turtles must regroup on the farm, wondering how to get their bro back.
Great video once again Tat. Really excellent parallels drawn. Curious that ‘Recruitment’ and propaganda are common tactics of groups which cannot organically replenish themselves. Flawless Victory.
First of all, if people could mutate in animal hybrids, pretty sure everyone would, rightfully, be scared. Especially if any have Carnal Instincts. Second, while the human turned into monster wanting acceptance is a tale as old as time, Beauty and the Beast for example, not every mutant is cut and dry a victim. Some mutants will relinquish humanity for power and control, others as poetic justice to show their monstrous side as a punishment for their crimes. Or the rare time there are actual victims, some of them either want to be human again, or die because they cant bear their loved ones seeing them. I miss those stories.
Batman Beyond goes into this with the Splicers. Everything is hunky dory while the splicing is cute. Cat girls, bunny girls, friendly dog boys, but when it becomes more dangerous forms, suddenly everyone has a problem. Instead of making Gotham the bad guys, they show no, the Splicers are a serious threat and people are justified in their fear.
Great video and the 1990 movie will always be a classic comic based movie. I love your analysis. It's much more interesting and goes deeper than the opinions of so many people who grew up with it, such as the Angry Video Game Nerd and the Nostalgia critic. They'll always do a surface level reading about it being dark, having great fight choreography, and practical special effects, but rarely do people like them going to the themes about being an outsider and so forth. We need more people with media literacy such as yourself talking about things like this.
It’s too bad Raph didn’t pay it forward and give Danny a bit of advice. I think this is their only interaction in the whole film: Danny: Don’t shot! Raph: I don’t think it’s loaded kid.
It's same crap woke writers are doing with Xmen. They take an outsider allegory and try make it all about them like the narcissists they are. Every group of humans has been given the business end of the stick at some point in history. There's more than enough human suffering to go around. No one group has cornered the market on it no matter how much they claim it. They just cry more about it because they're professional victims. I got wronged in a serious manner as a kid, but what made me get off my cross and take a step back was when I realized I'd only seen the tip of the iceberg when it came to human suffering. I took my terrible experience and was able to use it as the wisdom to reach people who others did not understand instead of goes woes me forever. I was able to save the life of someone I love because I was able to say right words that day. I stopped them from killing themselves. For that I would endure it all over 1000 times than risk being a fiber less of a man when it matter. We all have our struggles, as no one fits perfectly into the world. Anyone can be an outsider for that reason or feel like one. But if you go through something terrible, I recommend taking whatever wisdom you can from it. If you going experience something awful, you might as well get a lesson from it if you can. Why suffer for nothing? You might never love what you experience but if you can take that event and channel it something else. This obvious takes self reflection and awareness that people like the modern writers lack.
Thanks for the video 📼 I'm glad you're explaining the important messages that are this movie 🎥 that a lot of people seem to overlook, because they think 🤔 this is a kiddy franchise.
It also makes no sense since mona lisa didn't wanted to become a mutant at all we all know and others became like that due to the mutagen bomb by old hob
Shredder also reflects the theme too, since he was unaccepted by Yoshi and Shen after the rivalry grew, Saki must've felt betrayed by the world when he lost his one love to his friend/rival.
That was a great video. I love the original movie and I think that’s it’s a great move for so many reasons. It really is too bad what they did to TMNT.
There is, I suppose, an argument to be made that there's a family out there for everyone, whether or not it's your original one - but saying you should reject your original one because it's obviously inferior to your found one is where things go a step too far.
Content Creator: "It wasn't even really about being outsiders.." 🤔 Wait, are we talking about the 1990 movie or the Mirage comics? Because I thought this was about the movie. 🤨 1990 TMNT - Scene - Enter the Shredder: "You are here because the outside world rejects you. We are your family, I am your father." 😘 1st movie = Outsider, weirdo, freak, exclusion, feeling of not belonging, not fitting in. 😢 2nd movie = Existential crisis, lack of purpose, no greater meaning, Why are we here. 😢 3rd movie = Spelunking for pork rinds. 😅
I'm clearly talking about the comics in that context. I brought up the comics because I wanted to implicitly highlight two things: 1) the movie was doing something new and good and 2) the IDW comics were doing something new and bad The source material will always be my frame of reference for how TMNT media should be adapted. It's a common theme on my channel that the source material is my baseline measurement. The 1990 movie is very different from the original comics because the movie tackled the "outsiders" theme, but it was well done. It's not often that something in TMNT deviates so far from the source material and manages to pull it off, so it's worth calling out in my opinion. Hope that clears things up.
@@Tatoruzu Yes, that definitely clears things up. 👍 I like that the source material is your base line. I just wish it was Michael Bays base line too, hehe. 😜
They were "coded" as white surfer dudes. In S03 EP40, Mikey eats anti-mutagen cookies and it's revealed that his "human form" was exactly what you'd expect: a white surfer dude.

@@Tatoruzu it is. But trans ppl can identify with it, for the same themes, and turtkes content that do have some sort of lgbtq message is okay, wouldnt you agree?
