It should be about doing your job and as long as you're not scaring people and are pleasant, that should be enough. In fact, getting all buddy buddy at work can lead to a lot of chit-chat, joking around, making plans on what to do after work, etc. My job is how I pay my bills. As long as I don't hate it or get a migraine just thinking about it before I brush my teeth, I'm good.
A job CAN be like family - for better or worse. I have people at my job who make life difficult, yet I have formed a strong relationship with my direct team and supervisor so I go in each day knowing that I only have to do my best for that day and that I’ll have people looking out for me - same as I’m looking out for them.
I don't understand why we're supposed to pretend we go to work because we love it rather than to pay our bills? Whoever is coming up with that stuff in CEO meetings is next level.
Are you happy with your job? No. But I can't say that when I need a job. I come to work, do my job and go home. I am not required to be 'happy' or 'make friends' at work. As long as I am polite and do my work, you really have no say in how I think.
