Actually, the "Descent Into 1-1..." it's maybe what happened when the Player selectede Mario many times, but all the times it crashed the game. So he go with Luigi, and the ending wasn't what he expected...Man, that's real scary
Mushroom Asylum is legitimately kind of creepy. It has a biting commentary on what the ramifications of the player's choices are if they were held to a real-life standard. Fortunately it's just a game.
The first one is such an amazing idea! That's how I always imagined a broken game looked! Playable, but with everything scattered, switched assets, and moved obstacles, in a orderly, predictable way. Kinda reminds me of World -1.

The way how when you finish mushroom asylum, Luigi finds out there’s no escaping and crouches down in the corner as the course fades off *thats just creepy*

1-1.exe has encountered an error: how was this even a scary course? The glitchy effect would be a bit annoying to play through, but there isn't even a horror theme to it! The Mystery of Luster Lake: A jump-scare in a Mario game; now that's cool! Overall, however, it was more intense than scary. Great level anyway, though, what with the Boo Circles and ever-creepy Fish Bones. Call of Koop'thulhu: Nailed it! Descent into 1-1...: The fake endings are so mean (but creatively awesome)! This level definitely had all the necessary elements of be considered a scary level. It's only failing lies in the fault of SMM2 itself, as a Mario level can only be just so scary, ya know? Mushroom Asylum: Awesome opening jump-scare! Plus, it really did give the feeling of going through an insane asylum wherein the enemies were the patients. Anyway, these are just my humble opinions, not mean to persuade or dissuade anyone in either direction. Watch/Play for yourself and form your own opinions :)

The first and third one were creative in a way of making the player go through levels they though familiar only for them to change and get more unsettling with the way it shifted, randomize and broke apart not to mention repeatedly in the third one. The second and fourth one put some good atmosphere in terms of playing with our fears about the ocean and how there are things underneath the ocean depths we have yet to see which is a very scary thought and then the last one…. My gosh the last one was the scariest. It felt like how anyone would be dealing with mental health… especially so messsed up you think your getting away when in reality you are trapped forever in there with nothing but those horrible memories of your evil deeds
0:49 I once had Super Mario on the TI84+. I then was stupid enough to unlock editing so I could look at the code. After relocking, it was playable again, but there were glitches similar to this except purely graphical. Like literally every level was offset upwards a bit more than the previous one. I managed to reach 2-3 I think was my highest, but that effect was really messing with my brain.
How to make a scary course in SMM2:
1. Spam Horror and Near Miss SFX
2. Make it an Underwater Night level

Descent into 1-1 reminds me of P.T. in a way. And here I was trying to make a disturbing airship level, and Luster Lake knocks it out of the park.

In the original Mario Maker I played a level called "Block.exe" and that kinda broke the game a tiny bit somehow..ahh good memories..
