Hi Robin As we plan for a new roof and other updates to our converted bungalow I’ve been watching this series again. Such incredible insight that is helping me in the discussions with contractors. Many thanks for sharing your knowledge in this format.
Your so exited about the roof and tiling, and how it's not quite right. But give the roofer a chance to speak! I enjoy your enthusiasm cos it fires me up to get my stuff done. Thanks, keep it up.
The original builder already has "spoken" in the form of his shoddy work. No excuses. It's not isolated. Other channels like "roofing shite roofing" find this stuff is all too commonplace.
@@baldyslapnut. hi. I think you've got me wrong, I meant the roofer who was working with him. I agree it's crappy work. But sometimes Robin asks a question then answer it himself, I wanted to hear what his contractor had to say.
You summed it up in two words Robin, "Proper Job" that's what's it's all about. Sadly today, it's missing in a lot of the trades! Thanks for sharing and looking forward to the remainder of "The Big Build".
Hi Robin coming along nicely, I smiled when I saw the scaffolding I thought that’s heaven always a good call, shame about the roof and insulation, there needs to be a much tighter regulation board out there for everything done but to no avail yet, keep the great content coming all the best Tony 👍 have a awesome week
You can guarantee this roof was not built by A&E. Tony and his team are another group of skilled tradesmen like yourself, who strive for quality on there projects.
Really great to see a construction start to finish. I'm just an amateur DIY geezer and would never attempt anything like this but always been intrigued by how it all gets done. Fab. Thank you
Lovely to see a tin roof on a scaffold, as a bricklayer it means I can earn a full weeks money every week. I worked on a very similar job to this one three years ago, doubled the size of the house, so really looking forward to this build. During my apprenticeship we covered other trades breifly, they taught us about the tile overlap etc. That has all been lost now in apprenticeships, not enough time apparently. So wrong, sureley the most expensive purchase of anyones lifes should be built by the best trained men. I find it so relaxing to watch your videos because I know everything is going to be done as close to perfect as you can make it. Such a long way from most builders. As for the polystrene in the roof, break a peice off and set light to it on camera for the veiwers Rob. Just to show why we don't use it. I can remember ceilings being covered in polystrene tiles in the seventies until the fire brigade did videos showing ceilings on fire.

If you have two different roof pitches meeting forming a valley you can adjust the battens so you can fit a valley tile it is time consuming but it does work out fine, great video looking forward for more installments.
Love it, having watched all of these I am getting nervous about our current job....lack of tidiness round site compared to you makes a huge difference in confidence.
I agree with the other people too. The previous Roofer/Builders did not have a clue what they were doing. We've had a loft conversion done about 10 years ago and come winter I can't bear the coldness of the room, so I sometimes stay down stairs on the sofa to get a good nights sleep. What our builder did when he had to plaster the pitched side of the roof was to put a thin space blanket across the rafters and then used thin plaster board to cover up the so called insulation. Knowing what I now know, I would have insisted this be done correctly. At the time when I questioned it, I was told it is being built according to building regs. What utter rubbish !!! I know the building company are no longer around so there's no point in naming them...Thank god for small mercies. We would love to have this put right but money is so tight at the moment. When our son moves out in Sept for university we are moving back to what was our old room...Cant wait to sleep in a warm room again in winter. Even with our heating on 24/7 we still find the loft conversion simply to cold to bear. When you think we shelled out the best part of £38 thousand for this, I can't express how disappointed and let down we are.
Hi Robin love the plain tile but valleys are better with the valley tile if you have the same pitch looks so much neater. The roof over is so much better than struggling with Tarps.I have seen that before over the years with the use of silicone with pieces of tile in the valleys being stuck in place not good trades people who take pride would never even consider it. Looking forward to the new roof lay out. Many thanks
Having a tin hat cover to work under is a real treat, and how it it should be done if, as was mentioned, you want the job to stay on track.😁 How cool is it going to be once you get it all stripped off Robin, and then you can start putting on your lovely new, straight roof structure.😎 (slightly jealous)👍
Saw some roofers silicone fixing the last cut tiles on a hip of a bungalow before they hammered some screws though the ridge tiles ,on a new housing site , does irk me some as the nhbc chap was so pedantic about the roof construction was questioning the scarf joint on the hip 8x2s done the right way (see Robins video) he had never seen it before, I despair ,can't afford the top hat scaffold for my extension ,would be great, will muddle on,cheers Robin
