Awesome Video and super helpful. I was laid off yesterday and I made my first sale today after being online for 8 days. Super excited to see where this goes. Hopefully, I can turn this into a full time business. With videos like yours, it motivates me even more. (;-)
Wonderful video, 8 years ago I made and sold decorative wagon wheels and was very successful, but unfortunately I had to close shop because of too many orders and with that said, 100% of sales had in return a solid 5 star rating, nothing less. I did this all without paying for anything extra and I believe with a 5 star rating which helped drove in traffic. I wish you much success and keep up the good work! I plan on doing this again and have designed a new wagon wheel product that's still not out there on the market. Much success to everyone!

Thank you so much for this information! I will have a limited quantity of certain products and wasn’t sure how to put quantities in since I like to make multiple listings.
For sure! Not really the point of the video, the value is in the strategy and methods I am teaching for your own business. My numbers don’t really help your own store in any way only meant to inspire what is possible. We ran a 32% profit margin that year before employee wages and taxes. But as mentioned don’t get caught up in others peoples numbers does not benefit your own business focus on the strategies and doing the work :)
I feel like there is still a lot of that on there, we still make everything in house but have scaled out our systems but yes as market places get saturated this is going to happen in business and it forces us to build better ones. We have a choice to optimize and become more competitive or get drowned out. But I would still say it is not as bad as amazon, there are still many creators on the platform doing very well.
@@EcomHannah Its not your fault. At least your not pumping out Ai generated garbage. Im more so just depressed at the state of it all. Ahh just saw you guys are closing down on the site! SO curious if you are selling the biz or just closing. I know selling was an option mentioned in your book keeping series. Can't wait to see what's next!
Can we have a breakdown of the sales? Total money, total expenses and then profit? Seems like Etsy charges for a lot of extra things, 20c per listing, taxes, etc. Making almost a million dollars in a year sounds amazing, but how much was the profit?
Thank you so much for this video; I’ve been trying to figure out how to grow my channel and how I want to go about branding myself and stepping into more social media influencer content, and this video has been extremely helpful. Congratulations on all your accomplishments.
Just watched this video and loved it! So happy for you & all your success thus far, very inspiring! Thanks so much for making this and for your willingness to share your personal business data. It was very helpful to see how to use the competitor analysis tools and I think you shared a lot of insightful tips for people who are just starting out.
You know Another big earner on Etsy has only 65 items and 1 bundle, so only 6 listings total. She's in a very competitive niche in general but she positioned her items in a sub niche and she's doing really well. So quantity isn't the answer for everyone. You know
For sure! Totally agree and totally depending on the niche. That’s exactly why the video is “How I did… xyz” not “Hot to do …. Xyz” I can only share things from my experience and add value through what worked for me. Absolutely does not mean it will work for every niche as competition varies, search volume varies, price point etc there are many variables that exist for different niches :) which is great that you pointed out because that’s a huge thing people must understand coming into the space. because it worked for one niche does not mean it will it will 100 % work for another
It stands for cost of goods sold, which is the total cost associated with the sale of an item, basically what it cost you to produce the item, including packaging
I LOVE this video. Cannot thank you enough. I have an Etsy shop, overall I've had a positive experience. I'm about to launch a bigger shop but will test out your recommendations with my more niche shop before applying it to my larger one.
Thank you for this information. I have had some relative success with my shop but am looking to take it to a level that will allow me to do it full-time. You shared tips that I have not heard before so I am excited about incorporating these into what is already working for me. Subscribed!
Hi ya! just wanna say great video, thank you for sharing and being SO encouraging! I've told myself I need to get in control and be my own boss, I'm very creative but need work on my motivation & business minded-ness! Perfect video for my journey and research, Thank You!
Hey Amanda I actually don’t share publicly for obvious reasons as a person that dedicated their entire life to building brands on Etsy and Shopify I do try to preserve my brands as much as I can. While competition is not always a bad thing I do try to preserve my brands for the time I can. Other TH-camrs who share their product listings and their storefront will even admit that it definitely comes with a cost but I would say the real value for your own business is implementing and doing the strategies that I am teaching. I have had people go straight to my website and steal my images and my designs without even trying to be an entrepreneur I hope you can understand
@@EcomHannah Really, that makes more sense why I haven't seen people advertise their store page. It's unfortunate that people out there try to take from small businesses. Thank you for explaining that to me.
Yes I have just sold my main brand a few weeks ago too and it is in the contract that I have rights to the strategy of what I teach to share in my ALL IN masterclass that I am creating
Thank you for sharing this! I just want to make sure my math is mathing. If I spend $15/day for 30 days thats $450 x 50 listings = $22,500 a month. I guess as long as you have more that in sales you are good to go.
nooooo nooo sorry let me clarify, its NOT 15 per day per listing. You are going to set a $15 per day budget on ALL listings and that is only going to spend the total $15 IF people are actually clicking on the ad so a lot of times Etsy will not even spend the entire $15 per day it will only spend $8 because you did not get enough clicks. I have a max budget at $1000 per day and sometimes Etsy will only spend like $400 or something! Hopefully that helps!
@@EcomHannah Gotcha! Im just starting my research on ads and I get so confuse about what is a good amount to spend and what amount would be a waste of my time. Thank you for clarifying this for me : )
@@Sh0paHo0lic be sure to make sure you store is fully optimized, product listings, value prop, etc before spending any money all that research before hand is going to make or break your results!
Not really the point of the video and you may be missing the real value I share my numbers to inspire. Pay attention to the strategy and what i am teaching that’s what’s really important for your own business. That year we ran a 35% profit margin before taxes and employees. Focus on things that are important for you business and putting in the work and you’ll get there ;) you got this
@@EcomHannah It was your video title, stating you "did" over $945,000, along with the several mentions that this was a sales figure and not profit that prompted my comment. Why would you admonish me for trying to understand if your strategies yield financially sound results? It's important for my business that I evaluate strategies before deciding whether to adopt them. An operating profit margin would have been a more helpful figure but thank you for some disclosure.
I have a question...if my one digital product goes 500 sales , does the transaction fee of 6.5% apply on each time ..like 500 times?? And does Etsy charge before transaction or after?
The problem with ads is that if you start using them then you can't stop, it's like the algorithm notices when you stop and stops showing your listings, even ones that were showing up organically. (Not 100% sure about this but saw a couple of sellers say this 🤔)
Hi Hannah! Thanks so much for this video! Two questions! Do you do consulting? And do you have ads turned on for every listing, or top sellers? New listings as well? Cheers!
Thank you so much for watching and I actually am offering store audits right now :] please email me at hannahthemark8er@gmail.com! I run ads on all listings and turn off ones over time that do not perform or are "dead" listings
I just found your channel. Love it!!💕💕 I agree that being present in your Etsy account is helpful. Do you think having multiple variants in a listing is a good way to increase exposure?
Awesome thank you so much for this comment and sharing all the love it seriously keeps me going! and yes especially because if the main image shows a bundle, it will always auto populate the cheapest price which increases your clicks which is the hardest part about getting traffic is earning that click
I wish you would've started number 4 by giving the definition of "SKU" and explaining what it is. I googled it but I still don't quite understand and it sounds like an important part of the process. Other than that your explanations are impeccable. Very helpful. Thanks 🦋
SKU is a Stock Keeping Unit identification number you can make up and give to your product listings in the back end of your products. SKUs do a lot of things for your tracking and bookkeeping of your inventory :]
@@EcomHannah Do they have much benefit apart from tracking inventory on the seller's side? As in, does having a SKU for your product help it become more visible in Etsy searches? (I sell digital products, but have never used them before). And as for joining them up for duplicate listings, I'm guessing this means more listings = more traffic/views to your store? :)
@@muzzabear If you are selling digital goods and have no need to track inventory then no you do not need a SKU system it is really only for bookkeeping and inventory tracking purpose but if you have no money tied up in inventory than it does not matter for you :]
Hi! Thank you for the great content. I had two questions. When you say to have at least 50 listings, do you recommend listing 50 all at once, or only listing one a day until you reach 50 listings? Also, once the areas to input information are filled, and the item descriptions and branding are to your liking, how do you "stay active" every day without reviews to answer or items to ship? Would logging in suffice?
does not have to be all at once just keep launching and testing new listings as you make them. Stay active meaning, updating listings, testing new main images, answering customer service, fulfilling orders fast, testing new ways of bundling your items
@@EcomHannah Sorry for the late response! I wasn't notified for some reason, but thank you for responding! That makes sense and I appreciate the advice. Thank you very much!

I think the biggest thing for me will be finding products and ensuring the quality and shipping times are good. Looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Me too, I think we would have an edge. There is another channel and she sells keyword tags as a digital product on Etsy. Great opportunity for people with our background.

Such great content!!! Thank you for being vulnerable enough to share so much of your business. It is super encouraging to me as I look at launching my own small business and products. 🙌
Thank you so much for the comment and I love you seriously it means a lot to me!
It's refreshing for someone to actually say revenue is not profit. So many of the YT videos out there only boast of revenue. Many people who are starting a business for the first time don't understand the difference or it does not yet cross their mind that revenue is not profit.
For sure I have a full revenue break down video where I explain my profit too that could be super helpful for your own books :) thanks for watching
Thank you for saying 50 was the magic listing number. I was working on getting there SLOWLY. Instead, that's how I spent yesterday. First sell in less than an hour after hitting 50. Silly algorithms.
Awesome work! Keep it up
Awesome video, do not know how I missed this one!
Thank you for tuning in!
Great Etsy tips! I feel like everyone out there keeps repeating the same tips, but you really shared some nice tips. 🥰
Awesome thank you so much for the comment
I noticed that some of these so called “entrepreneurs” either they encourage you or discourage you. I am in the process of starting so I won’t listen to anybody that wants to discourage me. I’ve waited too long to start this to listen to,people that don’t want to be positive but very negative for people like me….
You got this, it is so much more about mindset than anything else. Stay focus and imagine yourself already at the end of the finish line!
Hannah! Thank you so much for posting this type of content regarding e-commerce and building a business on an Etsy Shop! I am just getting started with my own shop: this information offers a systematic approach to the work when all these aspects and nuances of business-building feel a bit overwhelming at first.
Thank you so much for watching and all the love! starting is always the hardest so congrats! also it is a bit of a learning curve so take your time and know that in the beginning learning is the biggest win.

I needed clarification on the SKU so I researched your channel and am happy to see you've made videos on the topic. I'll sure check it out. As a beginner, I can't run ads just yet, but everything else is implementable. Thanks for your time.

Revenue means nothing . Profit is the only number that matters

Hi Hannah. So happy I came across your channel. Love this information. Thanks for sharing!

I remember when Etsy was a fun place where artists sold art work. What a sad dystopian world we live in.
Its all just so inflated and full of low quality crap so people can have side hussles. Its not your fault, its just the world we live in thanks to coorperate greed. Sorry your video was like the third I watched and now Im just airing out my sadness with the state of Etsy and the online market place.
But I disagree that theres a lot of sucsessful artists on Etsy, while they are still there, sadly they are now the minority.

Can we have a breakdown of the sales? Total money, total expenses and then profit?
Seems like Etsy charges for a lot of extra things, 20c per listing, taxes, etc.
Making almost a million dollars in a year sounds amazing, but how much was the profit?

Hey that is awesome keep it up :]
You know
Another big earner on Etsy has only 65 items and 1 bundle, so only 6 listings total.
Absolutely does not mean it will work for every niche as competition varies, search volume varies, price point etc there are many variables that exist for different niches :) which is great that you pointed out because that’s a huge thing people must understand coming into the space. because it worked for one niche does not mean it will it will 100 % work for another
My typo above should read she has 5 items and 1 bundle, 6 listings in total.
@@DesignCutters thank you for clarifying :)
Great video! Thanks and congrats! Have learned a lot about Etsy from your channel.
What was COGS?
It stands for cost of goods sold, which is the total cost associated with the sale of an item, basically what it cost you to produce the item, including packaging

Where’s your Etsy store link?
No worries at all, once I sell my brands I will be more than happy too :]
Mmm not necessarily since I have sold smaller ones in the past it is all contingent on the buyer you have and the deal you set up with them.
Although you acknowledge that these are your sales figures and not profits - you could conceivably be making very little (if any) profit ...
@@nicn9776 Totally understand your point, thanks for clarifying.
This is excellent. Thank you. The testing is so similar to FB ads. I love it. ❤
Glad it was helpful!
I have a question...if my one digital product goes 500 sales , does the transaction fee of 6.5% apply on each time ..like 500 times??
And does Etsy charge before transaction or after?
It gets deducted from your payout and yes it applies to every sale
Technically it comes out to about 9.5 percent because that includes the merchant fee of 3%
@@EcomHannah thank you so much for replying Hannah😊
The problem with ads is that if you start using them then you can't stop, it's like the algorithm notices when you stop and stops showing your listings, even ones that were showing up organically. (Not 100% sure about this but saw a couple of sellers say this 🤔)
I agree but unfortunately if you don’t use them at all you won’t be able to compete with your competition and won’t make nearly what you could

Love it!!💕💕
I agree that being present in your Etsy account is helpful.
@@EcomHannah Great tip! Thank you Hannah!💕
