    I am a huge Jerry Goldsmith fan but TANGERINE DREAM is truly what Legend was meant to marry with. One of the most incredible soundtracks ever written IMO.

    • @octagramt
      @octagramt ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A way is to consider them as two separate movies, differentiated by their soundtracks, as absolutely does Jerry Goldsmith's transform the film from some edgy philosophical tale, to one of a more traditional Fantasy, dealing with the Elements of Good and Evil in a more pure tone.
      Typically preferences are determined by sequence of introduction.
      It's very likely you/most experienced Tangerine Dream's work first. Perhaps if you experienced Jerry Goldsmith's version first, your opinion would vary.

      A lot of songs had the same effect on me when I was homeless, about 20 years ago. I used to keep a small case of mixed cassettes and those became my soundtrack for a good year and a half of my life. Used to spend all my time in Golden Gate Park wandering around, listening to uplifting music.

    I was a toddler when this came out.. but I was blessed with an amazing memory. I remember so much from the 80s! I dont know if it was just my innocent mind or what but.. that decade seemed to be very magical. The music and movies have this distinct enchanting undertone. Like something from another world. I miss it very much. When I'm sick.. I always go back to my infant/young childhood days by listening to this song and some others. It wraps a warm hug around me. Makes me think of my mother. My dad. My brother and 2 sisters who were teens back then. I was a surprise baby lol. My family has since fallen apart. I'd give almost anything to have just 1 more day as a kid again. To hug them. To live in that moment... forever 💔🦄

    "to believe in the good in man." That part brings a tear to my eyes every time I hear it. For in the world today the good in man is all but lost and the evil that consumes them makes me wanna cry for the future of humanity. I hate to be a dark downer but it's true, I see it everywhere I go. But this song keeps me holding on to a frail hope, it may be frail but it still exists.

      Jon and Tangerine Dream had a falling out shortly after recording this song so the song is not on the official Legend soundtrack album and later recordings of it use a female vocalist. She sounds similar to Jon but his voice and accent brings a quality to the lyrics that can't be matched.

    Loved by the Sun
    Tangerine Dream, Jon Anderson
    Year: 1985
    I've seen the mystics play there
    Once or twice but I knew they had a reason
    Enchantment plays it's cards all right
    Hand in hand with the workings of the seasons
    Legends can be now and forever
    Teaching us to love for goodness sake
    Legends can be now and forever
    Loved by the sun, loved by the sun
    Loved
    Two and two go so close together
    Whether there is hope that is torn apart
    In the words of all that's singing
    Hand in hand the beginning is at the start
    Legends can be now and forever
    Teaching us to reach for goodness sake
    Legends can be now and forever
    Loved by the sun
    Loved by the sun
    Loved
    Who sings of all of love's eternity
    Whose shines so bright
    In all the songs of love's unending spells
    Only lightning strikes all that's evil
    Teaching us to love for goodness sake
    Hear the music of love eternal
    Teaching us to reach for goodness sake
    Legends can be now and forever
    Teaching us to love for goodness sake
    Sweet songs of youth, the wise, the meeting of all wisdom
    Sweet songs of youth, the wise, the meeting of all wisdom
    Sweet songs of youth, the wise, the meeting of all wisdom
    Sweet songs of youth, the wise, the meeting of all wisdom
    To believe in the good in man.
    To believe in the good in man.
    To believe in the good in man.

      I like the Jerry Goldsmith score. I always put that version back in now with the extended footage on it. Not to discount Tangerine Dream. Maybe that's because I've always been a fan of the classical scores they put in older movies. Clash of the Titans/Jason and the Argonaughts/Conan the Barbarian

    • @jamespowell7231

      Yeah, they really screwed up one that one. The theatrical release is the only acceptable version, the one where Nell doesn't mention she's the kinds daughter. The first time I saw the crappy version at home I was like this was not the version I saw in the theater, and where the hell is the legend song.

    Such an epic movie. Too bad "epic" is an overused word, because I can't really come-up with a good adjective for how awesome "Legend" really is. I was also interested to find-out the film was apparently inspiration for the video game series, "The Legend of Zelda".

    • @bveracka
      @bveracka 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stefano Pavone Yes, even without the admission of inspiration, when you watch "Legend" and then play any of the first few Zelda games, you quickly notice some BIG similarities.

    • @grayden4138
      @grayden4138 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Stefano Pavone I am the first to admit we don't need a Legend of Zelda film because we already have it with 'Legend', however, the film released in Dec of '85 in the UK, and in Apr of '86 in the US. LoZ was released in Feb of '86. Likewise, the film was not released in Japan until Aug '87, a year and a half after the release LoZ. I doubt Legend of Zelda only took a few months to fully produce even if Miyamoto had somehow seen a copy of the U.K. release of the film in theaters. Later games may have received inspiration, but not the original game.

    We need an ultimate cut of the film; with both TD's score and Goldsmith's score, but disregard Ridley Scott's ending of the movie and use the U.S version's ending.

    Good review! The different scores really do make a big difference. I remember as a kid, I had only ever seen the US version, and one time the UK version was played on TV and I was really weirded out by it, because there were scenes I didn't remember and the music was different, and I didn't understand anything about different cuts.
