Collin nailed the essence of this character. I don't care what anyone else thinks. This was a masterpiece film in many respects. As an audience, I thank Oliver Stone for making this.
I have been an avid reader of histories of Alexander - I admire this film very much . It is not a documentary and of course there are historical "inaccuracies" but I felt that it captured the spirit of Alexander. I thought that the use of Irish voices was a good way to indicate Alexander being regarded as an outsider, not quite Greek. The battle scenes were superb especially the finally one with that incredible shot of Alexander confronting the war elephant. The only performance I was not wholly happy with was Angelina Jollie as his mother who did I feel was somewhat theatrical. As others have said, no matter what critics have said, I have never wearied of this film and have enjoyed seeing three different versions.
When Colin exploded in the Hollywood scene , I think everyone caught flat footed , hence as soon as his fame gained momentum , along with his personal struggles , everyone esp the media was overly critical of him . They knew he was very talented , but they decided that his personal life is more interesting . It was almost a conspiracy to tear him down , that no matter how good he was in any movies he did , they thought otherwise . They made it seem like everything he was doing was the crappiest thing ever . But everytime i check the movies he made , but is not actually bad , i have seen movies made by other A listers far more worst . And despite of the not so great movies he made, he always manage to light up the screen with his stellar performances .There was even something in Esquire to the effect of every one wants to punch him in the face . So obviously decided to hate on him. I don't condone what he did in the past, because man , he was such a wild child , but , his talent and charisma was undeniable . 20 years after , here comes the new and improved version of Colin , and everyone in Hollywood in singing high praises. The thing is, you really can not put a good talent and a good man down . But these praises aren't enough . He deserves an apology . This movie and the people involved in it ergo Oliver Stone , Colin , etc. deserves an apology from these not so mocie expert critics . I mean , seriouslly who are these movie critics ? And what qualifications and experiences they have in movie making?!! This movie needs to be re-released, so it will gain the respect and appreciation that it truly deserves .
Also suggest "Triage"an Irish/Spanish production, which Farrell also excutive produced, it was the film he lost 44 lbs. to portray the photo-journalist suffering PTSD, during the Iraq invasion of Kurdistian.
after his death the greek culter center was in asia - syria, egypt, babelone. Many ancient scientist, philosophers, poets, geographers were born is asia. Alexantria was a science center until arabs conquered them
anyway it's considered the cradle of western civilization, as such, it is the birthplace of democracy, western philosophy, the Olympic Games, western literature and historiography, political science, major scientific and mathematical principles, and western drama including both tragedy and comedy
If you watched "Falling Skies" you saw Capt. Dale Dye in the second episode, playing a military officer in the rebel army fighting the invading aliens. Good casting by Stephen Spielburg, incedentaly his first tv series.
The fact that you've never read a gossip piece about his work ethic, after 12 years on screen, should give you an idea of that. He certinally never punched a director as Robert Mitchum once did. John Wayne took over the part. A great many of his director's are personal friends. Martin McDonagh, for one.
I know I'm not the only one who came here looking for a little Jared/Colin bonding, just a heads up before anybody watches all five videos like myself there isn't any. Jared isn't in the doc once. Not even in passing. So yeah, your welcome.
Greec culture yes..there were other cultures around this time..even in Ptolemaian-dominated Egypt....not only the greecs produced mathematicians, astronomers and other scientist..but they( the macedon greecs) probably destroyed the findings of other non-greecs and then heralded themselves as the center of civilization...

India as we know it wasnt concuered at all..Alexander, his macedon and persian help-troops just went into what today is Pakistan before facing a huge army and then retreating after a gory battle...
@winningtrolls I understand what you mean, really i do. Not cause i am an Alexandrist, but, how can anyone tell the FULL STORY OF ALEXANDER? where would you start? birth? Olympias and Philip having sex "creating" him?? The final cut version is great! The whole gay thing--he was bi---he loved Hephaestion but there isn't really no historical evidence they were lovers is all "spectulations" now,Bagoas is true...he did have kids and gave away a mistress,Campaspes,to his painter..so,it was accurate
The "known world" they mean the Persian empire....Deeper into India Alexander didn t get, neither further on to China, another huge civilization..the today greecs credit this macedon with bringing "civilization" to Asia???
I hate how they portraited him as bisexual. He had friendships but nothing of the calibur of being sexually involved many soldiers nowadays show great emotion for their comrades that what real men do and are not afraid of their emotions nor anyone else.
@winningtrolls Actually Oliver mixed that batle with one that alexander actualy get injured in the same way, but not failling of the horse, but what really ruins the movie is the gay stuff :/ the movie failed to show the real greatness of alexander, but i like aniway, the gay stuff i predent doesnt exist xD
Damn ...They should have used Michael Wood instead of that cambridge historian as a historical adviser ... The show turned out to be an extremely inaccurate portrayal..
OH, I forgot....Colin, you did a spectacular job on this film. Don't ever think otherwise.

I knew Colin trained hard for Alexander but not this hard. Behind the scenes film is as interesting as the film its self!

This movie is intensly underrated.

hot hot hot !!!!
i get it in a forum!! :)
India as we know it wasnt concuered at all..Alexander, his macedon and persian help-troops just went into what today is Pakistan before facing a huge army and then retreating after a gory battle...
He conquered more than 20(!) modern countries - from Greece to India and from Egypt to Kyrgisia
He reached what is today modern day Pakistan, not India.
The great Hidrocanoicus..
i agree this movie tried to be good and i respect that, fortunately the razzies went to catwoman a film that was by design god awful
is that liam neeson doing the narration?
@winningtrolls I understand what you mean,really i do.

This is my least favourite film, because Farrell overacts!
