Some fans treat wrestling like politics and I hate it (I'm not a politics fan either). They have to pick a side (a promotion). I say "No you do not." I like that we have multiple promotions like the territory days. I wish wrestlers could go between WWE, AEW, TNA, NJPW, etc - a true Forbidden door. Imagine the possibilities.

I have to sometimes watch at 1.5 speed cause time is a premium (1.75 for rampage ;-) but yes, there are people out there who will take what they can get where they can get it.

Le champion, Sting, CM Punk, MJF, Wardlow, The Acclaimed...aew had so many chances. They've blown all of them.
Miro, Ricky Starks, Kenny Omega and so many more aren't on TV right now, but even with their absences they still have so many top guys.
No they don't. They literally rushed Omega back before he was ready and then brought Mox back from Japan early because they have no real stars. I think you must have a different definition of star then I do because other than MJF, AEW hasn't had a star since Punk left.

Vince had a moment on Steve Austin's podcast a few years ago where he basically said the same thing about WWE; that none of the wrestlers want to stand up and be stars. Triple H took the same roster and turned it into gold.
Putting the belt on a guy like Swerve and then soft-burying him by not featuring him and starting drama with CM Punk is the problem. Could Swerve carry the company? I don't know, they didn't even let him try. Ricky Starks was a great babyface that had a random heel turn then disappeared. How far could he have gone? We don't know.
@@johnnysupreme5718 regardless, MJF is the closest thing to a star they've built and that includes ex WWE guys, and even he is only really a superstar by AEW standards, but not by wrestling standards. I'm a fan of AEW btw, I'm not trying to sound hateful, but it's like being a star in minor-league sports, just because you're a "star" in say AAA baseball or the XFL or CFL, doesn't mean you're a star in that sport as you still aren't a top guy of major league caliber yet.

Honestly it's not about hating, but the sad reality that there is absolutely no reason to believe anything will change given who is running the show.

Organization and an overall vision are going to be key to AEW success. Several companies had stellar talent that could deliver amazing matches, but fell through to the wayside due to lack of organization, short term vision, or by trying to plot as it goes along.
AEW could use this as a platform. Im not one of the doomsayers, but that has been an area of struggle for AEW, outside of sting’s retirement at least.
Time will tell how this is reflected on, and I felt the same way about Wrestlemania 40 on wwe’s end. It wont be a new era until it is over and done and fans name it. You cannot make an era any more or less than you can make a Mania event pop for the crowd if they don’t feel it is worth the pop.
Time will tell; not hopes and hot takes.
Hopefully both companies can give us some organized stories with focused, long term vision . Whoever does it best will “win”.
I was at their show collision last Saturday in iowa. Great wrestling and fun vibes. Crowd was only like 4000 if that but it was hot. It was fun but did not have the flow or storyline Element of WWE. Not having more of the main event stars hurt it, and three marches with jobbers. But the opening tag match and main event made it worth going for sure
It has been proven, time and again, that it's all too easy to over-egg the pudding when it comes to booking in the trade. The annoying thing for me is that these podcastard pundits seem intent on laying the blame solely at Tony Khan's door. Mind you, bearing in mind who the producers.co-hosts of this crap are, 'll get you 10 that it's not just AEW they enjoy bashing - Hello Eric!

Viewership numbers can’t be taken completely serious in 2024 simply due to the fact everyone uses vpn sites and have options to watch rather then buy a ppv or get a cable subscription.
I mean we should have know this when WBD does their quarterly reports for all their shows on all the brands they own and they said that aew dynamite, rampage, and collision get 3 or 4 million viewers weekly which shows that WBD uses different metrics to determine aew ratings and not just Neilson.

WWE and AEW have bloated rosters and need to trim them down. Aew Has some great talent but they get lost in the crowd. And Tony needs to really learn how to book.

Unlike cm punk, When MJF says he's the best in the world, it isn't his gimmick. It is the truth, and so obvious you'd have to be a dumbass not to notice. You have everything with Cody and Chad Gable, and Drew McIntyre and CM Polk. You have the rise of Braun breaker. It was a lot of good stuff to be happy with in WWE right now. There hasn’t been anything to be happy about with AEW in a very long time.

Have him loose to Osprey, then Osprey loose to MJF, and MJF loose to Swerve.
This leads to a three way fight which is where Hangman returns to cost Swerve. Spin that into its own feud while MJF and Osprey can continue

MJF came back & it was great to see him... but so far it hasn't improved ratings or ticket sales at all. Hate to say it but his talent is wasted at that company.
My guess is Max gets the Don Calis Family behind him and they betray ospreay at some point. Maybe at All In but i doubt probably not because you don't let him lose on the biggest stage in his own backyard

I think they booked him going for the World title that night while holding the international title on purpose. if Will is double booked that night, and succesfully defends his International title earlier on the night, and falls short against Swerve, it gives Swerve an INSANELY credible win that his reign needs in my opinion, all while giving Will a VERY credible way to be protected on the night and a reason he may come up short in the second match. I feel its also very in character for him to take on two matches in one night, so all around if thats the route they go with it I feel it would make a lot of sense, and not be 2+2=potato! Just my thoughts on it, you never know of course.
I think that's the thing, and truthfully going down to smaller venues has immensely helped their production. Plus all the talk about numbers really has gotten way out of hand, like people REALLY didn't like that WBD wasn't going by a two decade old way of doing things in an era where most cable/TV companies are more concerned with "how does this stack up against our own shows", and also GREATLY exaggerate things like WCW and TNA's failures. Especially the latter.

I would like to see the title get hot potato'd around a little bit. Not all the time, but enough to mix things up. Not every reign has to be months and months long. I'd also like to see title swaps on TV sometimes, not just on PPVs. Raise the stakes for TV matches. Likewise, let the champ lose an eliminator match every now and then. These things would go a long way, I think, to bring back some unpredictability and make their already great wrestling even better.

- Ospreay loses International Championship to Fenix next Wednesday due to Swerve and Nana interfering
- Brian Danielson wins Owen Cup at FD
- Ospreay defeats Swerve for the Championship at FD due to Hangman interfering
- Swerve vs Hangman at All In
- Brian Danielson vs Ospreay at All In (and Danielson wins)

If we had a legit 3rd company with solid financial backing, it would be nice to take talent WWE/AEW do not use and have them featured there. 1 1-hour show per week to get started after some PPVs for exposure. Then bump it up to two 1-hour shows if needed. Good wrestling, decent stories, easy to digest, fun to watch.
Jesus Christ, they could survive the lows once again, I guess if things go well we'll have 3 huge companies in the USA. Enough room for all the talent to shine. And they say tribalism, I say professional [silence]king wrestling.
Osprey doesn’t need to be champion. Simon always gives AEW a down for rushing stories but then asks them to do it with the biggest title they have. Smh Simon… pick a damn lane!!!
I think TK has booked himself into a corner with Ospraey vs Swerve, I think it's too soon for Ospraey and Swerve hasn't had a credible challenger yet that's made me think they could win as short as his reign has been.
The characters change week to week based on nothing. No continuity, no story, just “let’s have a 25 minute match and do everything we can think of.”
Not only is Osprey going for being a double champ so is Briscoe. This makes no sense to me at all. That’s 2 storylines you are wasting by not having challenges for those belts.
If you take the belt off swerve, it would be a bad decision. They just gave Ospreay a belt. He doesn't need them both.

AEW brought me back to wrestling after 20 years.
I am a causal wrestling fan , and I love WWE but was hyped to get into AEW , but honestly I have been finding it hard to watch lately outside of a few wrestlers i.e MJF but I find myself the past several months having AEW in the background and not watching it like I used to. I wish they would appease to more wrestling fans outside of the hardcore fanbase. Give us good stories and better booking outside of PPVs.

I'm glad you mentioned missing MJF. About a month ago the thought crossed my mind that AEW just isn't the same without Kenny, Cody and MJF. That being said I'm glad that WWE is treating Cody like he's a big deal but I can't watch WWE all the time due to work.

Problem with AEW is that they have all the talent in the ring but no stories to tell. At least their TV shows are so predictable and kinda boring.
No stories? Willow and Stat, Toni and Mariah, are two of the best stories in wrestling. You also have OC and Trent, the Elite angle, Christian with the Elite, Samoa Joe and Hook, Danielson ending his full time run, and more.

@@kimchi2780 They have stories, the problem is how they structure (or don't) their weekly TV. I watch all 3 shows every week. Far too often the shows just start with some match, instead of recapping stories, video packages, etc. to give the shows a clear sense of direction. Sometimes they do a good job of recapping stories, other times they don't. And for some reason there is this idea that the shows can't use proper time on telling stories through promos, vignettes, segments, etc. and must be like 75% of wrestling (even though they have 3 shows). Hell, they've even cut out the intros and some entrances recently just to squeeze in more matches. It's like they are just trying too hard to not be like WWE weekly TV instead of focusing what would make for actual must watch TV.
