Sat in that car when it was in service with GMP. A friend of my grandads drove it. Traffic officer. The radio is GMP CK channel. Birch Services unit. Mostly Range Rovers then. Good video. Thanks.
@@paulcam That's an interesting comment. In what way please? As I think we sometimes forget about the bad that existed at that time. Then are nostalgic for the good that was around.
Should add I think this is the Capri I went to buy about fifteen years or so ago. Was up near Leeds/York area I think. Ended up buying the original ambulance off the Carry On Films. 437 BXA. Got the original winkworth bell in the shed.
@@paulcam sadly not. I sold it to a vehicle museum up near Lancaster somewhere. Still have photos. Sid James drive it through the glass doors of the maternity unit. Was also in The Sweeney a few times. And the new avengers. I dove it up the MI from London to Yorkshire. That was a laugh. A rare ambulance.
Hi Paul, what is the radio system in these cars. Is is a PYE unit and does it work like a normal CB? Saw the car (I think) at GS Escorts open day last year. Looks great!
Hi, thanks for the complement. The radio is a PYE Whitehall. It was a multi channel radio that was programmed with Police Frequencies. The head unit is inside the cabin and the main control box was placed in the boot of the car. It worked on a simplex and duplex system. Transmitted on one frequency and received on another. Not in the way CB's work.
Fascinating. I take it though you wouldn’t have been able to take it on the road with all the livery on display ? Would the blues have to be removed or covered up, badges and stripe removed also?
I bought my red 2.8i in August 1991 and a MK1 3 litre GT that is now an ETCC ford works touring car replica in blue and white with 16 inch 3 piece split rims and a box arch body kit with a duck tail spoiler.
Be nice to see a bit more of this iconic car , I had a few 3.0 S Capri's in the mid 80,s and a lot of people I knew ran them also, we were from Rochdale and the traffic police ran the 3.0 S cars then the 2.8 injections so we were very familiar with them lol, probably been pulled by your car back in the day , when Fords were king cheers Paul 👍
Glad you like the car. I appreciate all your comments. I love hearing about people's memories of these cars. You can see more on my TH-cam channel or Instagram @gmpolicecapri
@@paulcam thanks mate yes I've already watched those clips on your channel I was a Capri nut back in the day had 9 of them all 3 litre cars and 1 2.8 YNE 165Y black one with special wheels on and trim , happy days ,I was always loved how nice they drove .
Mk1 1600GT i used to have a white one with black vynil roof and sheep skin seat covers with mini steering wheel .............. best thing about the capri was when i had my bird in there i would just reach over and pull the seat level and whack , she when straight back ....ha ha

Nice of you to comment. I like hearing from people who have a connection to these old cars.
I loved all my capri's back in the day from a Mk1 1600GT, Mk2 2000 and the best of all 2 x 2.8i's. I do miss that era. Thanks for sharing. Like n sub.
Nice to it brought back memories. If only we could travel back in time, the world was in a better place.

3,23 pulling up onto the ``keep clear`` yellow grid outside the car park. Naughty naughty.
Pulled up just outside the markings. No yellow road markings.
Love the old police radio chatter reminds me of scanning back in the day
I remember tuning in too to the local Police and Fire. Brings back memories for me too.
Great video, hope you’re well paul 👍
Glad you like Keith 👍
