A GMP Traffic officer lived near us when I was growing up in Wigan, he used to take the liveried Capri home and it was often parked on his drive overnight, they obviously were allowed to take them home then?
No. SD1 holds that title, they looked superb- huge presence on the road, and a favourite with the police, only the Senator pips the SD1 to the top spot. I'm an avid Capri fan and have owned one for 28 years- punches out nigh on 290 Bhp and looks like a standard 2.8i :)
When they are seen, they're pretty good! We know that the force was well within guidelines and extended to other places that may have been surprising! Often it was not exactly what the designers had in mind - and after-all, the '80s were - how shall I say - well known for some particular ups and down - oh yes! They took it that one was better than the other but as far as I recall it was often a case of quite a few sudden up-swings, what with the technology and the materials... But hey you can't win 'em all!!
I Have the models of the Manchester Range Rover and Capri 2.8i. I built a 1960/70's model of a BMC Ambulance with lights working and all. Would you like a video of it. I love youre channel.😊❤
Police cars were generally crap up until the very late 1990s. My local force had the 3 litre Omega at that point, but the modern high performance traffic and armed response cars just weren't a thing back then. Politicians tried to get the Lotus Carlton banned because the crap of the day couldn't keep up with 40 RA.
So is this the actual police in an old capri because I noticed the blue light on top which if it was a normal civilian I don’t think they would be allowed that so I’m confused lol 😆
This is my ex GMP Police car that I restored after it was found stripped in a garage. I take it to shows. I was giving it a local run out in this video.

Vauxhall senator 3.0 litre 24 valve was a good police car back in the day as was the cosworth Sierra sapphire 4x4
This car was a regular sight in my rear view mirror in the late 80s in Manchester. It went well as I recall.

The blue light is covered up and the police signs partially covered with tape. Therefore not committing any offences.
