Rae, you have painted sooooo many beautiful things here and on your Patreon channel but this is my new favorite. I was just taken in by the wonderful colors and the blending.....it is really amazing to watch. I don't really know what else to add except thank you. It's true joy to see what you create. I'm so thankful that I am able to follow along! Blessings!
Hi Helen, as I look at this, it reminds me of something I love but always found a bit intimidating and perplexing because of the complex layers -- hydrangeas. I hope to be able to watch you break down the process for this one day if it’s a topic you like too 😁 Thank you for the uplifting boost!
The technique and the way you break it down is simply phenomenal and allows me to attempt it bit by bit. You’re one of the best teachers in the internet! Thank you for sharing your beautiful talent! Howdy from Texas!
I just recently found your channel and it’s so relaxing to watch. You are extremely talented. I definitely lack confidence to paint, thank you for sharing this video. You make it look so effortless and easy ☺️
So excited! Love what you share with us its amazing! Love all mediums. Love everything art. I live in Northern Ontario. So happy to have found this site.🧡🖼🖌✏
I am a total rookie, with just a basic 12-pan wn cotman set, a size 6 brush and some cold-pressed paper. I studied color theory so i could multiply my colors but sometimes it’s natural to wish i had more varieties to work with. 😁
I really like succulents, but I already tried to paint them and it didn't work. I'm learning to paint and also practicing English whith you (I am from Portugal). Thank you so mutch! 🥰😘😘
So beautiful! I love my succulent plants and how you can think they're mostly green, but when you really look at the they have such beautiful colors. So this was super fun to watch ;) I have to work on patience and slowing down...my hands don't give me loads of time to use them before they cramp up beyond use, so I try to rush, but I know things always look SO much better when I take my time and layer color for more depth and interest. I don't have these colors, I have my itty-bitty adorable sized Daniel Smith Moonglow and a very bright opera pink, but not sure its the same. But those greens and blues and the..oh boy I already forgot the name, my brain fog is heavy today, the more grayish one...gosh those are gorgeous colors!! Especially the blues. Beautiful! I'll have to play with mixing some to see about getting something similar. So fun to watch, as always. Thanks so much for all your efforts to share your work :)
I love moonglow but don’t use it to its full potential. Thank you for taking the time to write. I’ve just sent you an email to see if I’ve the correct address. X
@@raecampbellsstudio yup, I got it :) Yea, I probably don't use it to its full potential either but it is a fun different feel for some shadows or different things. But its also expensive so I probably hold back using it some, though I should probably just use it :) Thanks a bunch :)
Hi Helen I've been watching some of your other paintings and there is some really beautiful pieces as is this one. I have drawn out my first botanical subject in my sketch book which is going to be apple blossom although it's my own drawing. Going through some of the comments I see your from the cotswolds I live in Swindon so not far away depending on which part of the cotswolds you live.
Daniel Smith equivalents? Thanks so much for all you do for us. You make watercolor painting approachable! On the issue of tracing, vs not tracing, I feel it does not make you less of an artist. It is a choice you make.
Thank you. Regarding the equivalent paints perhaps you could let me know which colours you have for the nearest the ones that I’ve chosen so that I can help you. As a general rule, viridian would replace the harbour blue and the copper blue, with a little bit Paynes grey or something added to the harbour blue, if you’ve got Moonglow that would replace the Noturrno
Hi Janice. Copper blue can be replaced with viridian. Harbour blue you could mix indigo to that but don’t add too much. Opera rose for the pink and then a little purple to the blue mix. Hope this helps. The colours won’t be the same but it should work
@@raecampbellsstudio thank you. I love your tutorials thank you so much for spending the time to give us these,as I am a pensioner and unable to afford classes, you have given me the opportunity to learn. I have learned so much about watercolour and loving them. 😊
I only wish you had an Instagram option instead of Facebook. It’s just something I’m trying to avoid. Your painting is wonderful! Do you have a link to this particular color set in the US shop? I’m having trouble finding it. The copper blue and harbor blue are such amazingly beautiful colors!
@@river4140 hi. From last week we are posting the line drawings on the community tab, right here on TH-cam so you don’t even have to leave my channel LOL x
@kathylong1900 in place of notturno use CPR with a little pink, permanent rose will be fine but make sure that they’ve watered down, harbour blue and copper blue you could mix perylene green with a tiny bit of Indigo to a very watery consistency. The important thing here is to get to know how your paints perform. I highly recommend watching that all your colours one by one in their lightest form their mid tone form and their darkest form. I have a video on this and I’ll see if I can find it to post Here for you. It’s a great way of colour matching and I highly recommend
Started on the succulent yesterday but got very frustrated trying to mix all of the colors with my Daniel Smith paints. I finally gave up but today decided to ask your advice with colors. Are there any DS colors equivalents to your colors without a lot of mixing. I never seem to mix enough and then to try and match - that is where I gave up. Thanks for any help.
Keep it simple. I recommend making a simple swatch card as I’ve done in this video. It makes matching colours a breeze. If you are still stuck let me know what colours you have and I’ll try to help th-cam.com/video/T01klbwz65Y/w-d-xo.html
it's finally here😯😯😯😯🥳I've been waiting for this one in particular 😍😍😍😍😍 Thanks Helen. it might be awhile til i give this a go, i have a lot of catching up to do 🤭
We take for granted that Renaissance artists drew their masterpieces freehand in a few strokes of genius. But the truth is they had tricks - including tracing. There is prove that some famous artists traced read the internet.
I just feel like I must respond to your comment. As a beginner.....I feel like whatever it takes to get me started is the way to go. If I feel like I need to start with a pencil drawing/tracing to get to the painting part, which is my goal in becoming an artist, I will trace. Honestly it does not make me feel like I am not an artist.
