Easily the coolest character in the TW game, best voice acting by far. With mods boosting his offensive spells, remastered lords for example that gives him a natural gleaming arrow, he becomes the strongest wizard only behind the lord of change and archaon. A really cool character, there's no other master of metal more interesting than him, even Magneto is not as cool as Gelt imo
Revisiting this awesome video, Balthasar Gelt really embodies the idea that a single, powerful spellcaster can be an asset to an entire empire. As a point of detail, his staff was crafted for Volans by Fredrick von Tarnus, the first Bright patriarch and the same artificer who crafted the emperors' silver seal. Which makes it one of the most potent battlefield weapons ever created by the Empire.

End times was GW cutting the funding to Fantasy completely, basically. So they rushed together a closing sequence to the lore. Now Total War Warhammer has proved the franchise is amazing for profit. And they are trying to resurrect it

Needed to explain the interaction between Nagash, Balthazar and Teclas in the end times, absorbing the various winds of magic. His guard (Manfred) turned on him as he was channeling several lores of magic into shutting the portal under Middenheim and the lores he was commanding snapped to the other two great wizards overwhelming and killing them both. The portal wasnt destroyed and the chaos gods could literally enter the world. So death.
Last explanation. The three wizards were working as one and as others who were channeling their respective lores of magic (even grimgor and the lore of beasts) died they took them on to shut the portal and kill off the chaos power entering the world.
I actually kinda liked this bit of end times. Manfred betrayal was shitty but not utterly out of character for him... jealous bugger that he is.
Grimgor helping is really in character since if everyone is dead he can’t fight anymore which is an orks worst nightmare

Pretty much every single op character or unit in the lore is a piece of shit stat wise in the game.

There are mods for pretty much every lord and faction to fix them all look into them I really reccomend some of the radiant mods that add units and really fleshes out the factions properly

Such a great song. Couldn't concentrate on the narrative due to the wave of great memories of the game that the song triggered.

Awesome video. I think this Magic College is the least understood as far as powers and capabilities. I wish they would do a lot more with them, and I'm actually glad that this character got the attention he did.
***** Yeah, I think I have only read 1 story with a Shadow Wizard and they barely covered anything, Death I have seen a lot more. I feel like they give Fire a lot of the attention.

Ok so Gelt can turn gold into lead, and people into gold... So the Empire should obviously be overflowing in gold by now. What about Gromnil, he can turn iron into that maybe? Wonder if he'll have economic advantages in the game, bonus gold production.
@@loremasterofsotek Even if it was only temporarily turning people into gold, I imagine the process of being turned to gold, and then backwards, is not pleasant nor cares for your bodies or organs structural integrity during and after. It could be only temporarily alright, but noone said anything about in what shape the flesh and bones would be afterwards.
@@maximiliankuhn4531 You would be absolutely correct. Unless turned back almost immediately, Final Transmutation is certain death for the target.
Also with regards to gromril, the Loremaster is correct as ever, but it's important to note that the Gold College is not content to let there be knowledge they don't know. They've been working for at least half as long as they've existed to determine the secrets of gromril (and also ithilmar), but the Dwarfs are understandably completely determined not to let one of their greatest secrets slip away from them (likewise the Elves). This has led to the Gold College doing some pretty radical things to try and get ahold of this knowledge.

This is actually my favorite character in both 1 and 2 because of this video. I wish they would hurry up and update the empire so I could play them again.

Why is this not a movie? I love the game, but a tv show or a movie would be more than awesome.
It doesn't really matter but Balthasar Gelt isn't native to Marienberg. He is native to the lands around the "The Black Gulf" (so the Border Princes most likely). Originally the ship captain using a merchant ship took Balthasar from the Black Gulf to Marienberg (where/when Balthasar first appeared in the Old World) who afterwards fled to Altdorf before the paid gold returned to its original substance.
Good job otherwise and I hope that you get more followers.

man, the narration of this reminds me so much of interdimensional TV.
I understand this is an old video and your newer videos fixed this, but the obvious cuts in this one are pretty funny and somewhat distracting.(seemingly mostly around the famous battle section for some reason) Ty for your videos eitherway.
Gold is a very soft metal, so a golden statue being dropped would not shatter.
Idk if you take video requests, but my understanding of the "end times" is in confusion because of the new age of sigmar ordeal and I was a warhammer 40k fan first ;o Possibly a series, as I know the endtimes is huge. Btw great video (first ive watched.)

You should do a lore video on the Empire offices and what they entail as far as the position and some notable people of the Empire that held these offices. We know Gelt was the Supreme Patriarch but who where the others and what did they do in the positions?

I don't understand, isn't binding beasts to your will a beast mage thing? I know that he is a multi path mage, but I never heard of him learning lore of beasts spells before. how did he dominate the creatures of the zoo?
he like teclis a magical genius, and he knows a bit of every lore.
I kind of wish Dwarves had metal mages :( they love their alchemy too, creating GOLD? not to mention ale..

They need to put alchemy into Runesmiths! Imagine a Battlesmith with shields and axes that automatically block and strike, forming a barrier around him, such is their runic enchantment.
Mjolnir Rune! ... Could you put the dragon slaying rune on a crossbow bolt? I like to imagine Gyrocopters work in part by having a Rune of Lightness on them, so they can be strong metal but ultra light. And every dwarf is born with a rune of beard on their chin.
+Dwarfurious Putting runes on a 1-time use weapon is not a good idea. At one point it was explained that runes not only take a lot of time and effort but also the smith puts a little bit of his essence into the rune. They could have been speaking like metaphorically of course, but I always took it as the creator pouring a little bit of his soul into his work.

For slaying a dragon or demon, would be worth it no? Other than that, arnt the stones the Grudge Throwers shoot inscribed with grudges? Even this alone supposedly makes them more deadly, could just be a superstition though
Dwarfurious Superstition, belief and faith have a lot of effect in the Warhammer world, any of these could have a tremendous effect. Granted that a bolt inscribed with ruins that happened to kill a dragon would be awesome, the chances of the thing hitting vs the amount of energy & time it takes to create one might not be the greatest interest. In order to kill a daemon (we are talking about the greater ones I assume) would have to be infused with very powerful ruins, seems like a lot to place on a gamble.

It is implied that both Karl Franz and Gelt got reincarnated into Stormcast.
I think the Everqueen also is back as of late.
In age of sigmar Balthasar became a Stormcast eternal known as Balthas Arum
the fight over the staff of volans seems a bit unbalanced in favour of those lores capable of area denial or teleportation, I wonder what the ratios of different lores achieving patriarch status is.

Mannfred is such a shitbag. He's always striven to be as great as and then surpass his sire Vlad, but lacked Vlad's power, vision, and sense of honor. Even though Vampires are blood hungry monsters technically when you strip away everything, they've shown humane and human traits, especially with the eternal love Vlad had for Isabella (even when she was possessed, or just controlled possibly I've not read that part yet, by Chaos during the End Times) and with his honor, as well as the even greater sense of honor held by Abhorash (aka the single greatest warrior of the entire Warhammer world and THE Blood Dragon). Mannfred fell short in all the ways that mattered. And although Archaon began the end of the world, it was Mannfred who's literal backstab of Gelt completely doomed it. Even the Blood Dragons led by Harkon who fell to Khorne after being trapped out beyond Gelt's magical barrier, who's actions then ruined a possible alliance between Vlad and The Empire and got many killed in the ensuing rout, didn't fuck things up as bad as Vlad's unworthy "son".

He's actually powerful once you level him. He's hard to use early game because the secessionist Lords are all melee experts and will kill Balthasar 1v1 every time. So you need to use the Greatswords he starts with to counter enemy Lords, or immediately recruit another melee Lord to follow Balthasar around for a little bit until he learns Final Transmutation, or until you get a Empire Captain/Witch Hunter to throw in his army to protect him. You just gotta be careful early game is all.
It is too bad that final transmutation will probably be nerfed because people in multiplayer games are screaming bloody murder. After final transmutation gets nerfed, Gelt will probably go back to become worthless. CA is trying to have single player campaign and multiplayer work at the same time. It results in supposedly powerful character and magic being useless because all factions have to be balanced for multiplayer.
Yeah, they really need to balance character separately for the two game modes.
Upsetting that Gelt is one of the weakest lords in TW: W , he and the necromancer legendary lords really need updates and buffs
Old as fuck comment to comment on, but I just found this guy. I just came back to TW:W and it seems they redid the values on the Lore of Metal and buffed Gelt's starting buffs (+10 armor for all units (all forces)). Sounds decent. Is the Lore of Metal viable now?
Yes his spells are better and his army buffs are better and the lore of metal spells got a few buffs worth checking out.
