I would imagine, especially singing musical theatre style, that the focus was on a more neutral sound on words for clarity of the lyrics so a wide global audience could understand. Musical theatre songs tend to be a bit more brash on vowels especially when many lyrics are fit into the phrase, overall this score is lyric heavy.

Me too! I have 4 mary poppins umbrella's, the script for the stage version and even the entire orchestra parts for the stage version. Very jealous of your chat with the lovely zizi strallen too the stage version is my favourite, dare I say. Have you seen the guy that recreated the stage set with working projections and everything very accurately.
