Siberian Khatru was filled to the brim with ear candy. It may be the one YES song that captures _everything_ I like about the YES Sound. After the beautiful, creative And You And I, Steve Howe's rocking introductory riff takes you right into that monstrous groove Chris Squire put together that drives YES' avalanche of melody + groove forward & to new heights. Once again, it was great to see Jana's attentive ears teased into eargasms by YES' amazing collection of talent...
Hi (non) Shufflers. Dave from London. Musically, it's one of their best, and I respectfully disagree with your Dad. It's different - rockier and riff-driven - but the contrast provides balance to this brilliant album, which I've loved since I bought it on release. Lyrically, I agree with you, Jana, that they sound like random words, and I still haven't a clue what a Khatru is, but I've always said that Jon's vocals are almost like another instrument.
I always find myself wanting more when that fad-out of Steve Howes jammin' just seems to be getting revved-up. That's what I love about Siberian Khatru live...he plays on. Maybe not as much as "I" would like, but "I" could listen to that all day! Great reaction you two. I am MORE than happy that you've "extended" YES month. Can't wait to see your pick next week! Keep spreadin' the love! Thanks!
Firstly Nathan I love the YES Drama sleeve pictured behind you and Jana !! Probably my favourite of all. This track though..Wow..can never tire of this ! Bruford and Squire absolutely rule here. Love your reaction...such a head-nodder. Have a great Sunday Nathan and Jana. 😍
I have been listening to this album for 52 years. I am 71. It’s my favorite album ever by anyone and Yes has been my favorite band since 1971. Have you ever tried reversing the song order? Siberian Khatru And You And I Close To The Edge It’s a completely different experience. Relayer: Sound Chaser To Be Over The Gates Of Delirium Try that order too. 😊
This is my #1 Yes song, always has been. And they played it live in Brussels around 2004 with almost this line-up (White instead of Bruford) and it was amazing. I felt the bass in my stomach. The acoustics were great as well. It's a perfect ball-shaped concert hall.
“It's got a good beat.” Yes, a really good 15/8 (alternating 8/8 and 7/8) beat that feels like a simple 4/4. I love when Yes become as straight-forward as this-rockin’ out and bringing their punchiest play. I knew Jana would love this one.
Nathan's all "Screw that shuffle -- wifey needs to hear this NOW! 😆But yeah, 'Close To The Edge' is usually cited as the pinnacle album within the progressive rock genre for a reason. And even dear old Billy B -- always quick to pithily disparage his old band -- likes "Siberian Khatru". "We had a good day that day... or a good *week*." 😄 The sequencing discussion brings up a debate amongst prog fans who argue the track order should have been reversed, opening with the upbeat rocker, then going to the pastoral track before ending with the magnum opus. Anyways, good job you two. A very classic rock album indeed. 👍
I wrote my first comment while the song was playing. It amazes me how spot on Jana's comments were. Pretty much exactly what i said. Right on Jana!! Awesome reaction to the greatest band on this or any other planet❗️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍😎
Hey guys! Happy Sunday!! YES❣️❣️❣️SK has been the perfect YES songs for over 50 years. It has opened more concerts than I can count. It's a song that the band doesn't need to think about, they just play it and they play it very well!! Musically and vocally It's just perfect especially to open a show. Not only does it get the crowd going SK gets the band jamming! CTTE's SK is a classic and still sounds great on this Sunday!!! FOREVER YES❣️❣️❣️👍🪐🪐🪐🛸🛸🛸😎
Close to the edge is my favorite off this album but I love that bit towards the end of this song when the Mellotron suddenly comes in with that "chant".
Another enjoyable Prog Sunday in the Books! Siberian Khatru has a catchy energetic groove! SK ls in my Top 5 Yes Songs. I read that Jon Anderson at times would add lyrics that he thought worked well with music instead of telling a story etc.
she loves Chris Squire....what is Not to love about his astounding magical fingers, The Fish is forever Yes❤❤🩹🎸 love the energy and vocals...those last dat dat....off ya go! i love yes...man what is she going to think of Relayer's love epic Turn of the Century (my fav)
One of the few early YES songs that I enjoy listening to in the studio version as much as in the YESSONGS version. In terms of arrangement, they are almost the same and the sound is of course much better in the studio. I'm just a little missing the transition from the "opening" to the song itself (when they "take over the scepter from Stravinsky") and a "real" ending (I usually don't like fading out that much).
For years Yes opened all their shows with Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite", directly segueing into "Siberian Khatru". Live there's no fadeout but a definitive ending, which I liked better.
I love this entire album...and it's one of my top favorites. I disagree with the arrangement of the songs on the album. I still feel that I would have had: Siberia Khatru the opener, then "And You and I " in the middle, which would be the closing song on Side 1.... then end the album on Side 2 with "Close To The Edge, " as the closer on the album. So. Because of arrangement, it is my 3rd all-time favorite album from Yes. But great reactions from you two.
Ladies and gentlemen, YES, the greatest show on earth ✨️🎶✨️
Bass....bass....bass...bass....amazing!
YES!!! Masterpiece #3 on the greatest album ever written by the greatest band there ever was or will ever be!🤩
Bruford with the groove . He was amazing
YES! 😊

And You And I
Close To The Edge
It’s a completely different experience.
Relayer:
Sound Chaser
To Be Over
The Gates Of Delirium
Try that order too. 😊

I'll definitely have to try those different song orders!

Yes deserves a double month

I always enjoy your Yes reviews!
Nice... One of my favorites!
Yes greatest prrog band..😮😢
The greatest band that has graced this planet. Just subscribed because you had Yes on. First saw them in 1973 the TFTO tour in Glasgow.
13:29 Rock N Roll Prog. I like it. That's as good a description as any.
Definition of early Saga.

Fantastic song!!!!
nice reaction Jana
There was a time where i was in total agreement with your father on this song. In recent years though it has really grown on me. Fantastic song.
They used the song as the concert opener in the 70's.
Love this song, and this album. My own opinion, I like this song opening the album, and CTTE closing. But it’s still a perfect album.
For years Yes opened all their shows with Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite", directly segueing into "Siberian Khatru". Live there's no fadeout but a definitive ending, which I liked better.
15:44 YES often opened with this song too. It's just a great song.
Check out the live version of this song from probably one of the best live albums ever- YESSONGS
Best prog album..ever. if she does not like..well...it will take some time
I wish you guys would react to "Relayer " album by Yes. 🎉🎉🎉
I love this entire album...and it's one of my top favorites. I disagree with the arrangement of the songs on the album. My ringtone on my phone!
same here
Shit..three of the album covers on your wall are Yes...what a surprise...lol
This album is always voted best prog album ever. I think Fragile is a little better. I also put Gentle Giant Acquiring the Taste up there with it.
Jesus CHRIST the bassline
Im with your dad, love yes but for some reason i never got along with SK.
I just like the live versions of that song, The studio version is overoroduced. imo.
