Both solos are from Toto’s live version. In Amsterdam to be exact.
I improvised the last few bars of the second solo. If you want to play more like Luke, follow the tabs.
You can play all verses as i play the fourth verse . It seems that Luke plays that way live with little touch of overdrive. Chord forms that you see mee playing on verse 1 to 3 is something Eric Clapton has been playing live.
That is one of the best live versions of the song. I have been listening to it for years and I felt every note you played. Again, you are a Monster, hands down one of the best of the best TH-cam guitarists of all time! I have seen at least 50 of your videos, multiple times.

Not enough can be said about the subtle three-note chord voicing in certain songs, and along with the harmonics, you really nailed this one. A lot of guitarists overlook this song because it doesn't have that wham-bang-thank-you-ma'am sort of vibe. Great job, Juha.

Hi all, could anybody explain a bit of music theory behind Lukather's solos? What kind of scales is he using? Is he using triads? I feel like it's mostly minor scale and minor pentatonic. Thanks in advance!

A minor/pentatonic/blues scale. To D And E chords he often plays triads or just the third to the chord D =f#, E=g#

Maybe we can talk a bit about your right hand picking technic? The faster Lukather lines are mysterious to me... Economy? Legato after two notes? One note on one string, two on the next... hard to figure out... But it looks, that you finde your way! :-)

@@fs7572I use alternative picking there...down up. Think that line as descendent four note group. Easier to figure it out that way.
Of course you can add hammer on or pull of you like. I think Luke is picking all the notes...🤔
