Thank you for pointing out God's foreshortened foot. I had never noticed this before, although I have admired this work both live and in print. Also great points about the parallels with the Strozzi chapel.
Lovely video!!! I had never made the connection between the composition of this piece and the work in the Strozzi Chapel!!! This Cathedral and it's adjoining cloister is full of amazing works that I never cease learning more about. I hope you will continue making more videos about the works there.
Gerini's Throne of Mercy is gorgeous. The memento mori makes its point well, to say the least... Looking at these different depictions of Christ on the cross, I don't see him displayed this way in churches I've attended. I wonder how that would impact services.
Question: Why do you say that linear perspective is "rediscovered" by Brunelleschi (4:55)?? How was it that he was not its discoverer?? Was he not the Florentine who used the Baptistry outside the Duomo to test his perspective? I thought that he was the original discoverer. What am I missing?
I just want to say I love this channel.
I'm tour guide in Florence. thank you very much you are the best.

Wonderful stuff! You two make a fantastic duo when analysing these pieces. Bravo!
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

There is evidence that linear perspective was understood in antiquity. An example can be seen on the Palatine in Rome.
@@smarthistory-art-history I had no idea! Thank you for a swift response!!
Saw this in Florence...then in art history class. Better to study then go! The first Renaissance painting they say.
