5 degrees C is rather cold, but of course since it's July, it's summer in the UK (and everything looked very green at takeoff in London), and winter in South Africa since there it's the southern hemisphere. However, I didn't think Johannesburg S.A. was far south enough for temperatures of 5 degrees even in mid winter and it being early in the morning. Even Capetown is not nearly as far south as for instance southern Argentina and Chile in South America
Wanted to fly internationals in the past but heard too many bad reviews and domestics were always OK. Plus SAA has a history of being one of the most expensive.
My experience flying long-haul with SAA has always been exemplary, the highlight for me always being the attentiveness and kindness of the crew. If you compare them to other direct service prices they can be quite competitive.
Thanks so much for your kind comments my son was a flight attendant for saa and really loved his job until the airline spiralled down passengers were his first priorities it's sad about the airline I strongly believe that saa will rise above the ashes and once again be successful
How I miss flying on SAA. I've been on that aircraft many times (to and from Brazil). Ironically, CemAir has arisen from their ashes and might just be one of the winners of SAA's demise.
I flew with CemAir for the first time back in 2018 from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit on their Dash 8 Q400, truly excellent service and a wonderful overall experience. As sad as SAA’s and SA Express’ demise is, I do agree with you that it has allowed the smaller carriers to really grow and place themselves in good stead for the future.
When they gave you your beverage, you were just starting to fly over the English channel, but by the time they gave you your meal you were over the south of France almost over the Mediterranean, lol
Geez! Just noticed! At this point in the video ( th-cam.com/video/mdaMiONmoyA/w-d-xo.html ) if you trace your mouse cursor from the tip of the outer-most canoe fairing and follow it down to the northern shore of the lake you'll be pointing more or less at where Flight BEA 548 crashed in 1972.
Thanks Derek, I remember watching an Air Crash Investigation on this incident several years ago. I think it’s still the worst UK air disaster, I believe four South Africans were killed in the incident.
@@raeltremeer6138 At the time, yes. However presently that dubious honour goes to PanAm flight 103 as operated by 'Maid of the seas'. Oh...and whilst on the topic of calamitous air crashes the first 747 ever to land at Heathrow in 1970 was the same aircraft involved in the Tenerife ground collision.
Thank you so much this video was awesome...we need more SAA content.
Thank you, do not worry, more is on the way!
SAA has such great potential. Hope the company turns around
I hope it does too, but things do not look promising at the moment.
Well, 3 years later they havent exactly done the best but definitely a big improvement.
Thank you so much ....I miss going home
I miss saa so much always flew with saa great treatment on their flights
I’d definitely say cabin crew attentiveness and charisma are relatively unmatched in the airline industry.
Loved this video! My trip to South Africa was cancelled due to Covid but this made me feel like I was on my way. Hope to get there someday!
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully you’ll be able to do sooner rather than later.
Best video ever. Love my SAA

Hi, may you tell me the name of that building you visit for plane spotting, please ?
It appears at 7:19.
Thanks !!!!!
There is an elevated platform just in front of the Heathrow Academy.
Hope this helps🙂
Queens Building
nice work man!!!!!!!
Can take photo with Cabin Crew & do they give a free plane model?
I did manage to get a photo with the crew, unfortunately no model though.
Why should someone sleep on the floor??

Corruption corruption corruption was the downfall of saa regardless of the pandemic saa could still have survived

Ah, thanks for the correction, I think the Tenerife disaster is still the worst air crash of all time no?
@@raeltremeer6138 Yep... and long may it remain so.
I’m from South Africa lol
