Flew back from Zurich to Jhb on economy flight today. Seat space is really cramped. I am average height and my knees were touching the front seat without the person in front of me reclining their seat. Maybe it was just the seat I was in, but this didn't happen on Lufthansa. Overall se4vice was to be as expected these days on economy flights
I think the SWISS Boeing 777 must have less legroom than the A340 which I flew, I know they haven’t been using the A340 recently. The Lufthansa 747 does have very good legroom in comparison though I do agree.

Their pilots actually rank among the best. I personally know cockpit crew that have rather excellent experience and qualifications. Trust South Africa to play dirty politics on smaller airlines.

I flew this route last year and the food was terrible, by far the worst I’ve had on an intercontinental flight.
Interesting to know it’s still underperforming.

As an avgeek staying on a flight path of most international flights, I watch them in awe on Flightradar24 and wish and hope to one day look at my house from above the clouds as I jet off to some amazing place in the globe. You seem to travel a lot to South Africa. If you don't mind answering, Is it for sightseeing or business purposes ? Or may be both 😅
Of course, a little bit of both, although I’m always sightseeing when travelling!
It is always a pleasure to fly the queen of the sky ✨️ 💙 Just a question, on what floor is the viewing deck located at, please ? (Ground floor, 1st floor or 2nd floor)
Unsure exactly which floor number but there are two viewing decks, one at the very top of the arrivals hall main atrium and one at the very north end of Terminal A before check-in/security, where the airline offices are based.

Lovely flight report 😊 Do you know why all Europe flights arrive in JHB in the morning but only depart at night ?
Thank you! I believe it is because the evening departures allow time for passengers arriving on connecting flights to O.R Tambo earlier in the day. Johannesburg is the major hub in Southern Africa from which Europe bound flights depart, so many short-haul and regional flights arrive here. Also because people are less inclined to want to take an 11 hour day flight. That would be my best guess.
I was also very surprised about how enjoyed that vegetarian meal. It eased my disappointment with the “no meat served” new policy I didn’t know about. I opted for KLM the next time around. I just couldn’t go without meat. I know, I’m a terrible person.
It was very odd, as long as the vegetarian options remain consistently good I don’t see it being a problem. However my preference would still be to have a meat option as well!

I'd love to visit SA but scared of being Shot mugged or car jacked then shot . A SA friend of mine says its a beautiful country but very violent and not worth the risk .
Obviously it depends where you go, with some places being riskier than others, but I would not write off visiting. With the right information and some common sense you would most likely be fine visiting, it’s a beautiful country which does well to cater towards tourists and is worth seeing if you get the chance.

You can visit, just don't go in the centre cities of jhb and pretoria. But it fine. Stunning country.

If you value your possessions, then avoid flying Airlink.. they stole all my electronics in my checked bag.. they have thieves working for Airlink
Airlink has nothing to do with stolen Electronics.. All baggage handling for all South African airlines is outsourced to ACSA.

Great trip report. I guess airlines are trying to save every dollar they can coming out of the pandemic, hence having no meal options.
My thoughts exactly, I just hope they go back to offering the service as it was before the pandemic now and don’t make this the new normal.

Not on this route so much no, when I used to fly with SAA it seemed to be more common. Hopefully if SAA starts bringing back some of its old routes I can fly with them again. I also thought that about the computer😂 I think the “ZIM” is just the manufacturer of the seats, although it did make me think too!
