I genuinely think this series is a masterclass in setting tone. Yes its scary, but it isnt all horror all the time. Stuff like the commercials or minigames makes for a great overall tone to contrast everything
Tone is the most important part of making horror scary. A cheap jumpscare will only scare the player for a second or two, and get less scary the more they use them. But the right tone will unsettle the player for the whole experience, and keep them on the edge of their seat.
@@BananaWasTaken additionally on that though is using jumpscares at either seemingly pivotal moments when people are on the edge of their seats or just one at the start to set the tone of "this game is a horror game btw" is a good combination with tone. 12:50 the news guy sounds like casoeh 😂
THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT
@@CAmiri-dp1pg that's because it IS him (according to IMDB and some other articles atleast)
@@Seedthebluguy2144 ahh ok👌
It can't be caseoh, the audio file would be too large to put in the game without crashing it
(Fr tho that's super cool that he's in this, it fits really well)
It's caseoh. The credits at the end confirm it.
I played this with a friend before it came out and I don’t think I’d ever been so scared in a game
This games music is what sets the mood for every setpiece perfectly. Finding out that "Rick" wasn't actually rick and was some random person because the actual rick hasn't been to the rental in weeks is already terrifying, but the music adds a whole new feeling with the fear and panic that fills you when listening to it as well.
