Thing is a lot of other singers/song writers wanted Elvis to do their music and get what they called the Elvis rub. Because a lot of people have said that when Elvis wanted to do their music it meant they truly have made it or it would give their career a boost and got his fans to look at their music as well. I remember many years ago Willie Nelson had said that Elvis' version of his song "Always on my Mind" was the best version that was ever done including his own. Also Elvis never did anyone else's songs without permission from the writer and/or original artist. I even think John Lennon had said once that when Elvis did "Something" and "yesterday" two of the Beatles songs in concert ("Something" was done during the Aloha Special) that it renewed interest in the Beatles' music even though i believe they were already broken up by that time. Olivia Newton John said she considered it an Honor that Elvis wanted to do two of her songs in concert "let me Be There" and "If you love me let me know". Others have said the same thing about Elvis doing their songs either recording them for an album or in concert. Some people try to say Elvis stole other people's songs and that is not the case he always got permission to do those songs that he liked.
@@williambarnard1763 In January 1973, the Beatles split was barely 2+ years passed and all interest in their music was still going strong (as it is today). I am a huge fan of Elvis Presley. Elvis was the King (he still owns the crown today), but his 1973 performance of the great late George Harrison song, "Something", made absolutely no difference in the level of interest for The Beatles music to the world. In this case - and in my personal opinion - the original version of Something is still the BEST version. An interesting FACT about the George Harrison masterpiece is that he wrote it entirely alone with little encouragement and support from Lennon/McCartney. I read that George Harrison was a true Elvis Presley fan so it must have felt like the greatest compliment and honour to hear the King sing it live for the world.
@@darrelltucker9968 Elvis as i said not only did the Beatles song "something" during the Aloha concert but he also did during his Vegas run "yesterday" and recorded for an Album "hey Jude". NO. Good singer/ COVER artist, performer and personality. But BEST of All time? Not by a long shot. TRUE ARTISTS create their own works and set the standard for others to follow and to build upon GENERATIONS down the road. They have a vision and write, compose, perform and create a new sound that prompts others to do the same. The Beatles, Stones, Cream etc... introduced ROCK at a much more innovative and evolved level to music goers. James Brown introduced FUNK To audiences. Bob Dylan introduced Folk music to introspective audiences. Elvis Presley a basic COVER Artist did not create anything because he did not write one single song out of over 600 recordings. He simply redid the works of other artists who actually wrote, performed and composed their own works. It doesn't take extraordinary talent to do that when someone else already has put in the work. Presley was a good vocalist but in truth he was simply an acceptable Caucasian COMMERCIAL face in 1950s segregated America for a genre that was already in play well before he came along and even he himself admitted to this. Cover Artists have a short shelf life and virtually no artistic growth because they depend on others to hopefully keep them relevant by coming up with something that they can cover. Which is why Presley had short peaks.
I wish he had been to Italy too, but I think he didn't belong to any country... sometimes (not only sometimes but everytime I see him) I feel bad and sick because he passed away too soon. Many many things he could have done if you think the new music technology of the 80' and 90' and even 2000. HUGE Ron Tutt fan here! ELVIS was among the VERY best supergroups of its time and Tutt contributed greatly to their amazing sound. FUN FACT: Hoyt Axton had said that he'd wanted, like his mom, Mae, to also write a hit song for Elvis. Elvis loved "Never Been to Spain" and were going to record it but they were still on tour. They had planned to record it, however, upon their return. Then Danny Hutton dropped by to visit Axton and, at some point, asked, "Are you working on anything now?", to which Hoyt whipped out his guitar and began playing this! Well, Three Dog Night (being, like The Turtles, the song sharks that they were) managed to record the song FIRST and THEY were the ones to have a top 10 hit with it! As a group, Elvis, when covering somebody else's material, always stayed true to the arrangement but, since THEY had the song first (and before being able to record it) now continued to perform the song in concert but in the way that THEY always had! I STILL love the Elvis version best, however! James was also amazing with this on the Madison Square Garden album!

Elvis is maybe the best ever but even by his standards, there were certain songs he did live where he seemed to reach down just a little bit more. This was one of them.
Was born in 78 so I was never really exposed to elvis, only knew what i heard people say on the street so to speak. I've recently watched a couple documentaries and that sort of thing. There will never be another entertainer like Elvis. I love how in tune his band is with him. They never take their eyes off of the him. Every movement Elvis makes means something. I still love the man.
I usually don't go for covers but this is amazing - classic elvis
I have also Never Been to Spain. I can say that I appreciate women of all shapes and sizes, and from all places in this great wide world.
Absolutely captivating.
only discovered this song recently through Chris Robinson's terrific version, what a great song and Elvis sounds fantastic here
He is the finest preformer ever, he can take an average song and make it better than the original... Like Never been to Spain, Pround Mary and Polk Salad Annie.
I've heard another versions of top singers. None of them barely are comparable to Elvi's performance in singing this song. Simply unique.
Never Been to Spain is not an average song, and neither was Hoyt Axton, who wrote it
@@richwalko81 yes! Cher sang this song as well as Tina Turner. It is a terrific song in every way.
without a doubt he was born to change music and make his mark on earth he certainly did that
Life without Elvis it sertanly matters!!
He didn't "steal" music. Elvis just had a way of making other people's songs better.
Only low IQ racist cockroaches say he stole.
Definitely my all time favorite song...just something about it & I'm a Dj that loves music so too me its a big deal
Chad Clark - same here. This song melts me aaall the way down every single time.!! ☺
No one can replace Elvis he is and always be the best
The king, the best in live performances.
Thee greatest for thee next zillion years
Ronny Tutt might be the most underrated drummer ever.
Elvis is maybe the best ever but even by his standards, there were certain songs he did live where he seemed to reach down just a little bit more. This was one of them.
This is a perfect example of older heavier Elvis having a better voice and stage presence.
Wtf
Elvis had one hell a band backing him. Sweet sound.
He really rocked this song!
And underage girls … he was a pedo and a song thief
he rocked all songs!
Was born in 78 so I was never really exposed to elvis, only knew what i heard people say on the street so to speak. I've recently watched a couple documentaries and that sort of thing. I'm shocked that I have waited until my 40s to discover elvis. I've heard his songs all my life but i never really listened. But watching the docs and seeing his personality i now understand that he was the king. TCM has a couple of really good documentaries on him right now and I'm going to recommend everyone watch.
Truly powerful song sung by simply the greatest, love you my King.
Elvis was and always will be the best entertainer with that big voice there ever was no matter what songs he did no one will ever match it not even the elvis want to be's
So much SOUL!!!….Come back Elvis, we miss you :(
Yes we do miss him so much! And no one had as much soul as Elvis did singing! He put his everything into it! Just magnificent!
Please come back, Latvia, Riga
1:09 incredible range. the man was amazing...we miss u E 2022
I never really liked this song, but I love it when E sings it.He makes everything better. Thanks for sharing enjoyed it immensely. What a voice, what a man!
My goodness he could charm the leaves off a tree. Have Mercy! Love him always, he will always be the best!
Early 70's Rock and Soul mixture Elvis should have been more of a soul singer he had the voice for it songs like this if you talk in your sleep if you don't come back I got a feeling in my body it shows he was a great soul singer should have done more Never Been to Spain Elvis knocked it out the park what a powerful voice in the song in between Opera and hard rock and roll what a performance should have won award for this
If you Talk in your Sleep is a little known gem.
No, there is no more giant than Elvis
I am not a big Elvis fan, he was before my time, but his cover of this song kicks ass!
Great music is timeless.
A pesar de que nunca estuvo en España, conocía muy bien nuestra musica de aquellos años.1972.¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
maria jose cercido 💫 👍 España. 🌷
Great performance.
he gives me shivers he is a true legend this is where the word came from elvis
Elvis was a gift from god 🙏
Greatest voice of all time 👑👑👑
Phenomenal, absolutely unique 🙏
There is No ONE that EVER LIVED that can make a song his own like ELVIS PRESLEY!
My granny and aunt were at his last concert in Indianapolis. My grandma died the same day as Lisa Marie and you can’t tell me they didn’t ride up to heaven together and were both greeted by elvis❤❤❤
Elvis will always be the one and only king of music.
A lot of people on forums such as Quora say Michael Jackson is bigger than Elvis. They have no idea what they're talking about. Elvis will still be big in 100 years. MJ will be long forgotten.
wow no matter what elvis sings i love without a doubt elvis was born to be what he is a LEGEND
Simply the greatest ever. There has been some wonderful talents over the years, but ELVIS is THE KING.
2023 and Elvis still stands the test of time
I never really listened or watched Elvis but I heard a story about him and Jerry Reed cutting Guitar Man and then discovered this Hoyt Axton cover. Man, imagine being alive while there was a KING of rock n roll and seeing him perform. Thanks for the video
2020 and my jaw dropped!
I was 16 years old in 1977 when Elvis died I will never forget the moment I got the news it was a big deal I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing I'm an old man now in 2022
I love this song and I love how Elvis sings it......better than the original artists.
Thanks for this awesome upload and thanks to IIC77 for the share.
I JUST HEARD THIS SONG FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE!!! The radio was playing this song in a more country version. Out of excitement, I immediately searched the lyrics before I could forget them. Listened to Hoyt version which made me very happy and then saw an Elvis version of the song. HOLY COW I AM IN AWE. What a fantastic song and rendition!!!!! How could I not know about this song or that Elvis covered it?! Putting this on repeat this morning. What else could I be missing?! 😂
Элвиса - это что - то невероятное !!! Давайте вместе восхищаться!!!!!!!
No one, no one could capture and interpret a song like Elvis 'King' Presley!
If you don't have chills at the 1:09 minute mark of this song, then check yourself into the morgue, because your dead.
Thetripletman60 I absolutely agree!
Thetripletman60 oh yeah!!!!
+Thetripletman60 I was going to write the same thing! Man, when he opens up those golden pipes, it is truly something to marvel at. And I LOVE the way he smiles at the band, as if to say, "Yeah, I still got it!" RIP, Elvis; you are still held in awe!
most of his songs gives me chills
+Thetripletman60 Gets me everytime, and the build up before it is even more intoxicating.
