Thing is a lot of other singers/song writers wanted Elvis to do their music and get what they called the Elvis rub. Because a lot of people have said that when Elvis wanted to do their music it meant they truly have made it or it would give their career a boost and got his fans to look at their music as well. I remember many years ago Willie Nelson had said that Elvis' version of his song "Always on my Mind" was the best version that was ever done including his own. Also Elvis never did anyone else's songs without permission from the writer and/or original artist. I even think John Lennon had said once that when Elvis did "Something" and "yesterday" two of the Beatles songs in concert ("Something" was done during the Aloha Special) that it renewed interest in the Beatles' music even though i believe they were already broken up by that time. Olivia Newton John said she considered it an Honor that Elvis wanted to do two of her songs in concert "let me Be There" and "If you love me let me know". Others have said the same thing about Elvis doing their songs either recording them for an album or in concert. Some people try to say Elvis stole other people's songs and that is not the case he always got permission to do those songs that he liked.
@@williambarnard1763 In January 1973, the Beatles split was barely 2+ years passed and all interest in their music was still going strong (as it is today). I am a huge fan of Elvis Presley. Elvis was the King (he still owns the crown today), but his 1973 performance of the great late George Harrison song, "Something", made absolutely no difference in the level of interest for The Beatles music to the world. In this case - and in my personal opinion - the original version of Something is still the BEST version. An interesting FACT about the George Harrison masterpiece is that he wrote it entirely alone with little encouragement and support from Lennon/McCartney. I read that George Harrison was a true Elvis Presley fan so it must have felt like the greatest compliment and honour to hear the King sing it live for the world.
@@darrelltucker9968 Elvis as i said not only did the Beatles song "something" during the Aloha concert but he also did during his Vegas run "yesterday" and recorded for an Album "hey Jude". Yes Harrison was the biggest Elvis Fan of the Beatles but they were all his fans. And as I said in my post I believe it was John Lennon who said during an interview that Elvis doing a few of their songs helped keep interest in the Beatles Music going beyond just their fans. He also said it was an Honor that Elvis wanted to do some of their songs live in concert and on album.
I wish he had been to Italy too, but I think he didn't belong to any country... sometimes (not only sometimes but everytime I see him) I feel bad and sick because he passed away too soon. Many many things he could have done if you think the new music technology of the 80' and 90' and even 2000. He was very avant-garde, current to these days; those who listen to Elvis and see him in his entirety for the first time, cannot believe that he belongs to the past, no one believes that!
Drunk? Elvis didn't drink. Maybe once in a blue moon on a special occasion. But he allowed no alcohol in Graceland. The reason: His mother died from the "bottle".

NO. Good singer/ COVER artist, performer and personality. But BEST of All time? Not by a long shot. TRUE ARTISTS create their own works and set the standard for others to follow and to build upon GENERATIONS down the road. They have a vision and write, compose, perform and create a new sound that prompts others to do the same. The Beatles, Stones, Cream etc... introduced ROCK at a much more innovative and evolved level to music goers. James Brown introduced FUNK To audiences. Bob Dylan introduced Folk music to introspective audiences. Elvis Presley a basic COVER Artist did not create anything because he did not write one single song out of over 600 recordings. He simply redid the works of other artists who actually wrote, performed and composed their own works. It doesn't take extraordinary talent to do that when someone else already has put in the work. Presley was a good vocalist but in truth he was simply an acceptable Caucasian COMMERCIAL face in 1950s segregated America for a genre that was already in play well before he came along and even he himself admitted to this. Cover Artists have a short shelf life and virtually no artistic growth because they depend on others to hopefully keep them relevant by coming up with something that they can cover. Which is why Presley had short peaks.
One thing we need to do here. We all need to remember, even if we were not alive at this time. This was a magical moment in time that will never be done again....
This video and song is amazing I never get sick of it! He truly was on another level of performance and no one can even touch him today! Truly magnificent Elvis Presley😉👍

HUGE Ron Tutt fan here! ELVIS was among the VERY best supergroups of its time and Tutt contributed greatly to their amazing sound. FUN FACT: Hoyt Axton had said that he'd wanted, like his mom, Mae, to also write a hit song for Elvis. Elvis loved "Never Been to Spain" and were going to record it but they were still on tour. They had planned to record it, however, upon their return. Then Danny Hutton dropped by to visit Axton and, at some point, asked, "Are you working on anything now?", to which Hoyt whipped out his guitar and began playing this! Well, Three Dog Night (being, like The Turtles, the song sharks that they were) managed to record the song FIRST and THEY were the ones to have a top 10 hit with it! As a group, Elvis, when covering somebody else's material, always stayed true to the arrangement but, since THEY had the song first (and before being able to record it) now continued to perform the song in concert but in the way that THEY always had! I STILL love the Elvis version best, however! James was also amazing with this on the Madison Square Garden album!
Ronnie was a “unrated” Drummer. He sense Elvis’s performance EVERY time. His Anticipation was 1 of the BEST. Also Ronnie Did not read a lot. Most of the charts were in his Mind already.
When I was in the 11th grade I got Elvis Live From Madison Square Garden for Christmas (vinyl). Ronnie's drumming floored me and still does! I've been playing for over forty years and he's still one of my favorite drummers.
