Furiosa: My First Mad Max Experience

- Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024) was my first exposure to the Mad Max universe, so it was quite an interesting experience...void of Mad Max, but a lot of Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa and Chris Hemsworth as Dementus.
I would love to see the perspective on Fury Road from someone who watched Furiosa first. Please, please watch and review it (or even make a reaction video).
Oh yes! I’m seeing quite a few people encouraging me to watch and review Fury Road. It sounds like it’ll be fun, so I’ll be planning to do that soon 😊
>in b4 the community makes her watch all the Mad Max movies and reacts to them lol
Mad Max appears in the movie for only a few seconds when Furiosa and Praetorian Jack are being chased by Dementus. It's quite the brief cameo of him and his "Interceptor" car.
Mad Max is one of Australia's most famous cultural exports to the world. Furiosa is the most expensive Australian film ever made, which is why it's such a shame it's bombed.
However, I do highly recommend watching Fury Road. It is possibly the greatest action film of the 2010s, borderline perfection.
Warner Bros is not an Australian company lol
@@Jeremy_the_unfallible_n-a no its not :) But george miller wrote and directed ALL the Max films which are made down here, and WB was a necessary foreign distributor.
@@Jeremy_the_unfallible_n-a Warner Bros didn't make Furiosa. They have distribution right to it, but it wasn't their production. The film was made by Kennedy Miller Mitchell, who own the Mad Max IP (Warner doesn't own Mad Max). This is also why the film was half-funded by the New South Wales state government, with additional tax-offsets by the federal Australian government.
Warner put up half the money, so they were important. But it is an Australian film. It was written, shot, edited, directed, produced and entirely made within Australia using substantial Australian funding, with a cast that is largely Australian.
It is by definition, an Australian film. A US company providing half-funding doesn't revoke that.
@K.C-2049 ive not heard any aussies say it was bad :)
Fury Road for me is the best movie of the 21st century so far.
Strange to not know Mad Max franchise. 😅
These last 2 max max movies are masterpieces
Yes, I love the new Mad Max universe movies. It's amazing how energetic these films are being made by a 70+ year old dude. George Miller directs and makes movies like a much younger, but still very wise and imaginative, younger man.
Interesting to see the perspective from someone unfamiliar with madmax. Before fury road i was not familiar either and assumed it was based on a videogame because the name mad-max reminded me of duke-nukem and mixed those up.
I really like Fury Road and Furiosa. I hope they'll make another movie exploring this interesting universe.
"I got numb to the action."
Uh oh, maybe she's not ready for Fury Road. 😅
Naw the violence is non stop, it's exhausting
I usually don't recomend machetes order viewing because most of the time prequels retcons the mistery from the originals or they don't have the same visual style.
(Thats why i don't recomend the star wars prequels first for several reasons)
But this is one of the few ocations i don't mind recomending furiosa first before fury road because it rally enrich your experience by furiosa beeing your first experience in the wasteland and fury road beeing your full own spectacle in the wasteland.
Its kinda like going from the original mad max, who was not that much of an action film and more like a revenge drama like furiosa, to the road warrior who just like fury road is the ultimate post-apocalyptic odyssey .
Love seeing young folks giving this movie a chance. Love hearing a new perspective. Keep up the great work.
I also see dementus as a grey character. I think one of the themes of these movies is that few characters are really evil but everyone has been driven mad by life in the wasteland so they choose an evil path.
mad max, mad max 2, mad max beyond Thunderdome, Fury Road, then furiosa. you've come into the franchise the 5th movie in. glad you enjoyed it though. Mad Max 2 the road warrior is the best mad max movie.
I mostly watch this movie because because im a mad max fan, but even taking that aside im with you i watch this film because i have a huge crush on anya taylor-joy ♥
Basically this movie was having both my testosterone and my hormons up to 100
Furiosa is so intriguing because it's a perfect *prequel.* It is a fantastic movie in its own right, but it also does so much to develop a character beloved by fans, showing how she turns into that wholly "good" character. It details a wonderful character arc that ends in Fury Road.
Furiosa and the other Mad Max films have a touch of fantasy to them - for a world devoid of resources, everybody LOOOOOOVES their petrol, baby! - and you're meant to kinda roll with it. It is my favorite film franchise because despite all of the violence and horrible things that happen in them, they are really hopeful about humanity's capacity for goodness. We see it in Praetorian Jack (Furiosa's mentor/boyfriend in this movie) and we see it in Furiosa in Fury Road, and we see it in Max in the other movies - somebody who is out for himself until something breaks him each time and he decides to help others.
These movies are simple, they're really, really fun, and they have such solid character writing that you rarely see these days.
I think we all are a little bit confused why it was called 'a mad max saga'... ur definitely not alone.
Its great to see a clueless person's take on this movie.. trying to make sense of it, it's very funny.
PS.. The teddybear would throw me off too...
Haha it was all very strange for me, but I had a good time 😂
I think George Miller kind of explained it as a series of stories repeated/Told over time by the history men. So literally every main character has a backstory in the wasteland. Max is sorta a legend/Folk character who pops up and helps certain groups. The story is told from different perspectives/memories over time.
@@BarrySams That's not what the audience wants is the major complaint about these movies... where they gave Fury Road sort of a pass becoz it had strong actors/action this does not apply to Furiosa.
People want a Mad Max... not a Furiosa.
@Shryce That audience may have not watched the series/Franchise in its entirety. Just fury road fans which is understandable because Fury Road is incredible! But still George Miller's Mad Max Movies are one of the most unique, action packed ,post apocalyptic glory stories in modern times. I just hope people don't boil it down to monotonous action with little purpose(Fast and Furious franchise 🙄) I trust George lol
I would honestly suggest watching Fury Road, as the two stories are closely knit together and even Fury Road, despite being called "Mad Max" first, still is more of Furiosa's story. And I think that to you, someone who doesn't know Fury Road yet, the experience will be even better than for those who saw Fury Road first, since you now have the ground work to enjoy Furiosa's journey in that film.
The thing you have to understand about Mad Max movies, is that there isn't really any good guys in the film. Everyone is either just trying to survive, and is extremely pragmatic about it. Or people want to take what others have out of pure "why not?" Dementes wasn't a great guy, but he DID have a vision of a world where people can do more than just survive. And relatively speaking, that actually makes him the good guy of the film. You can't fault Furiosa for wanting her revenge..but at the same time, many of the problems she has later in Fury Road wouldn't have been problems if she HAD sided with Dementes against Immorten Joe.
If you want a fun, entertaining, irreverent, summary of the earlier Mad Max movies (the trilogy prior to Fury Road), I'm gonna link 3 videos, each about 20 mins, from the Weekly Planet boys. You said you were interested in the world... I think this might satisfy that curiosity a bit. Plus they're just fun, so... if you're curious, here you go:
Mad Max:

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior

and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome

They did one on Fury Road too, but I'm guessing you're gonna check that out on your own.
Oh thanks! Will check it out 😊
By all accounts, Fury Road was an even better movie and that didn't kill it at the box office either. Like you said: people don't have money.
Honestly the only thing that saved that movie was word of mouth and the 10 Oscar Nominations. Hopefully Furiosa bounces back also. I think this movie will do really well on streaming, where the barrier of entry is much lower.
I went into this movie as a Mad Max fan expecting not to like it, but ended up liking it.
It's mid. The violence is exhausting
I dont think its because girl hero .. she wasnt a "mary sue" at all :) she was a mortal woman taking risks and being brave. I think it wasnt a GREAT Max film because there was less obvious practical stunts, which is the hallmark of the previous films .. stuntmen used to get horribly injured making these and thats not a thing you can fake easily.
If you do have time, please do check out Mad Max Fury Road, it's just so... spectacular & not plot heavy at all, i'd say you might like it more than Furiosa.
Note: My grandma said the same thing when i was a kid, with plum seed, gave me nightmare lol
Haha, plum seed sounds painful to swallow 😆 And yes, will be checking out Fury Road next!
Your in for a ride if you haven't seen Fury Road yet! Buckle up and enjoy!
Do a review of Fury Road!
Id love to see a review or reaction to fury road from you! Thanks for the insight
Thank you 😊 Glad you enjoyed the video. I am planning on watching and reviewing Fury Road next!
@@JessInDreams7 I loved your review!! Really straight to the point and I liked it was very genuine too!!
Fury Road is gonna blow your mind. Actually wished I was in your shoes and got to watch Furiosa first because Fury Road is the perfect sequel even though it came first lol
I still think the most impactful experience is Fury Road 9 years ago in the theatres, not knowing what you were getting into. Because imagine just how surprising and mind blowing would that be. NOTHING existed like that before. Because as nice as watching Furiosa first, then Fury Road is, Furiosa kind of prepares you for the madness which is Fury Road.
This is exactly why people didn't watch Furiosa. We should have had a sequel not a prequel.
Now do yourself a favour and watch Fury Road

Max was in the movie. He was in one shot which was fan service lol
I think someone watching Fury Road for the first time after Furiosa would be an interesting video perspective. For me, Furiosa just makes Fury Road even better which I didn’t think was possible.
Haha, that part was actually confusing to me because I had no idea what it was showing me and it went by super fast
Yeah, but it also didn't help that you only see him from the back. If you had seem Tom Hardy in either ads or the movie, you MIGHT know who that was suppose to be. But if not, you'd have no clue. As it is, I think they used a stand in, and that means it was even harder to be sure it was Max Max in that scene.
Great video
Uh, jEsS! PU-UH-LEASE go watch Fury Road!! 😂 & make a review when you’re done pls lol. When you said you were gonna catch furiosa I ASSUMED you must’ve seen it. It’s honestly among the list of best movies ever imho. Even if you’re not an action person, I Really. Don’t. Think. that you’ll regret watching it. Like seriously! I will literally buy you a watermelon if you end up not liking it! (Of course don’t let this raise your expectations too much either everyone’s different, it’s entirely possible that you find it mid) But it’s like poetry to me, as a literature guy there’re only a few movies that after watching I feel like I’ve devoured a timeless classic, this is one of them. (Also watermelon seeds have indeed haunted too many childhoods. They need to be STOPPED)
Hahaha omg, I guess you’ve convinced me to watch Fury Road 🤣 I am hearing a lot of people say it’s better, so it’ll be interesting to see. Plus I’ll get to experience Furious as the prequel it was intended to be 😌 And LOL, glad you resonated with that bit about the watermelon. It’s good that the seedless ones are more prevalent nowadays.
You should go watch the Original, if you liked this one. Maybe all of them?
It should have been titled a Wasteland Saga.
I would agree that this film was different than expected. I actually have seen most of the Mad Max movies especially Fury Road since I LOVE action movies. Fury Road is kinda the pinnacle of a pure action movie. After watching Furiosa, I was kinda disappointed since it just felt like a worse Fury Road. The pacing in Fury Road is so clean since it’s just one big car chase. Furiosa was meant to be an origin story which could work but we don’t really get to see Anya Taylor Joy talk and do much outside of action. I like Anya Taylor Joy and think she’s a good actress so I think it’s kinda a waste to put her in this kinda role. It also doesn’t make sense in universe since in universe either since Furiosa in Fury Road does most of the talking while Max is most mute. It just felt like they wanted to make another Fury Road Mad Max but with a women and I just don’t think that works with Anya Taylor Joy. Tom Hardy can play a purely physical action star and be fine especially when he has someone to bounce off of (Furiosa), but in this film there really isn’t anyone. This is a long rant so I’m basically saying that the movie was bad in comparison to Fury Road, on its own I probably would’ve liked it better.
Yea, I think that’s the general consensus from fans of Fury Road that I’ve been seeing too. It’s was definitely nice for me since I had nothing to compare it to and the whole universe was new so to me I was like a kid in a candy shop ☺️ I also wasn’t expecting Furiosa to be mute for most of the movie, and it does make it harder to develop her as a character because we really don’t see her grow or change all that much throughout the movie that spanned quite a number of years in her life. I guess I really just liked her because she was played by Anya Taylor Joy, and she did a decent job speaking with her eyes haha.
Dementus was that person to bounce off of. And I think it was wonderful.
just don't think it was advertised very well, i didn't even realize it existed until like... yesterday? when i started seeing videos appear in my suggestions?
surprised though you'd never heard of mad max 😆
the old mel gibson movies get referenced so much in modern tv shows etc-- esp thunder dome.
this one, sounds a lot like my opinion of the last modern one: for a world where resources are scarce, they sure seem to go out of their way to waste resources 🤔
Oh those references probably all flew over my head 🤣 But yea, the promotional material for this movie was kind of lacking, and that first trailer indicating it was story about a girl trying to get home didn't sound all that exciting + the movie title is just her name, and I was like ???
Performances were great & action is always great from George Miller. Fury Road is definitely the better of the two, Furiosa should have been made/released first. Plot needed work to maximize the lore of the mad max/furiosa world. Should have doubled down on Furiosa, and not mention Mad Max since it is not in slightest about him anymore.
Yea, I’m glad I got to watch it as an actual prequel, so I didn’t really have anything to compare it to and I didn’t know what happened in the later movies. More lore would’ve been welcomed, and removing Mad Max in the title would make more sense.
@@JessInDreams7 The thing about "Mad Max" is that the stories are kind of myth, so there's no real timeline for them. Furiosa is maybe the main character in Fury Road, but so is Maddeus Maxthew, but he's played by Tom Hardy (in the other... 3? Mad Max movies it was Mel Gibson). And there's some debate about whether or not it's even the same Max. So... the Mad Max Saga thing works because it's all just supposed to be kind of mythologized, and so Max not being in Furiosa isn't really all that important, it's just about a certain post-apocalyptic, automobile focused vibe.
@@SchulzEricT Ah, so I guess that's why at the end of Furiosa we don't really conclusively know what actually happened because all we get is a narrator telling a story of what may have happened.
react to fury road!!!!
you're so pretty.
Aw thank you ☺️
If you're not familiar with the franchise just don't say nothing it's the waste land
Timothy Chalemet .. fighting big bad aussie punk bikers? Im not seein it :) hes what 55 kg? :) honestly Anya was more convincing because she DIDNT try to out muscle the big boys .. Tim would just seem a wimp :)
It literally says 'A Mad Max Saga' in the titles, immediately you should realize that it's part of a series.
You really don't understand the simple mistake she made? Says more about you dude
She explained her train of thought, which were both valid.
Fast and furious meets madmax over the top crap
An action film with a woman boss. A film women don't want to see. Men don't wish to see that kind of film either. Yes, now you know why it failed. Men would have enjoyed another Mad Max film. But Hollywood knows better. So, another woke film fails. How long can Hollywood afford to keep pushing these nonsense films on the public, while losing hundereds of millions of dollars?
Have you ever watched the other 3 mad max films? Also did you watch Furiousa? Pretoria Jack, Dementus, The parachut me bikers are all awesome, you missing out assuming. Furiousa is a great callback to the likes of weaver in Alien, Sara conner in T2, Gena Davis in Long kiss goodnight, Michelle Yeoh in Crouching Tiger. She written very well.
