    Fractal Design has been consistently killing it in the case department since the Define R4 days. I'm glad they've also made great moves in the airflow offerings with the Meshify series and now the Torrent. I recently picked up a Torrent myself and boy is it nice for aircooling! Initially, I added a 140mm fan in the rear as well. I saw one argument that said that without that rear fan your top-mounted PSU would be ingesting too much hot air coming off your CPU cooler and GPU. I quickly realized that was total BS. The rear fan doesn't do anything for lower temps, it just adds more noise. The open grill design of the Torrent let's out all the air your front, bottom and CPU cooler fans are moving through the case efficiently. The only cons I found with this case is that for the price, the stock fans it comes with aren't that great for a quiet build. The 140mm fans make annoying motor noise at the lowest RPM and get way too loud at high RPM. I quickly got rid of them. The 180mm front fans I kept for now because they just move so much air due to their size even capped at 50% PWM input, at which point they have very acceptable noise levels. My final config for now is 3x NF-A14s in the bottom, NH-D15 for the CPU and the stock 180mm fans in the front. I might replace the front fans down the road, since the top one has a little bit of weird noises at low RPM.

    Using the version of this exact case that only has the dual 180's, and even with just those, my temperatures are always INSANELY good.
    Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 on a 5900X... literally idle at 28C, and around 65C under a full CPU stress test.

    Hey! Just found your channel and I’m really enjoying your content. Is there any way you could put a note in the description or pinned comment in regards to the fan hub recall for this case? There is a risk of a manufacturing defect that can lead to an electrical short. Fractal recommends disconnecting the hub and are offering a replacement kit for those who already own the case. Just want to have that information available to as many folks as possible.

      IMHO, as an owner of this case who loves it, it isn't an optimal case for AIO. Sure, it can be used with one, but the whole point of this case is air cooling. And not just from a design perspective, but also from a price point. If you aren't going to use the included fans, you are losing out on a big portion of the case's value.

  • @pasencoreunautre
    @pasencoreunautre 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Awesome build and, more importantly, awesome case in many ways. I currently own a Meshify S2 but I much prefer the less boxy looks of the Torrent. My only issue with it is that there is no room for top fans. Therefore, I wouldn't be able to use my IceGiant ProSiphon Elite CPU cooler in it...

    • @zereimu
      @zereimu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I understand, top fans can actually be detrimental to conventional aircooling as it starves the aircooler from some of the air that would have otherwise made it to the fins, although not as bad as side exhaust would on an air cooler. If the ProSiphon Elite was vertical instead of horizontal it would enjoy even better cooling more than being it's default horizontal with top fans I believe, because the airflow would be more direct and cool. Then it would be the PERFECT air cooling solution, but that is more of a consequence of the standards we use for how we set our components in the motherboard. It just seems like the pro Siphon Elite is ahead of it's time while still performing amazingly despite it's drawbacks. It's also so huge that to mount it vertical it would probably take a special case.

    • @pasencoreunautre
      @pasencoreunautre 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zereimu I'm not an engineer but hot air travels upwards. The Prosiphon Elite was designed to take advantage of this principle by installing their fins for top exhaust, assisting them with 4 x Arctic P12 fans in push-pull configuration. I agree that it can't be installed any other way. In my case, to assist it, I installed 3 x 140mm Noctua fans as top exhaust, 2 x 140mm Noctua fans as bottom intake, 3 x 140mm Noctua fans as front intake and 1 x 140mm Noctua fan as rear exhaust in a Fractal Design Meshify S2. It's a bit of an overkill but my components all run very cool, Noctua is very happy that I'm such a loyal customer and I am very satisfied with my setup, which will last me a very long time.

    so funny. awesome case and I have always said it is better to have the psu at the top, psu's can handle heat and they also produce heat so it is best at the top, plus it gives your free exhaust fan. and cables are easier to manage when they are going with gravity from the psu down. If they just made the tower 2 inches taller there would be more options for power supplies and at the front they could have put a laptop sized optical drive slot for either optical drive or removable ssd .. option two.. they could have a removable thin bay on the face vertically along the side. of the grill, it would be invisible..

      If they do a torrent 2 they need give the second chamber more space to put wires, and hard drives. I don't think we need to be messing around with optical drives though. I'd rather they have a block to connect io, usb, all the fans including CPU, much less flimsy plastic, and cut the price in HAF.

My two most recent cases are a h500M and a evolve x both great cases but the h500M has the best airflow if you use the mesh front. And its crazy some companies wanting 200+ for a case and including 0 to 1 fan glad this comes with 5. I’ve been wanting to try the arctic freezer 2 420mm aio they seem to work good with ryzen had a kracken x72 on the 5950x and it did ok but i had to run pump and fans almost maxed if i ran pbo.

    Love this case design, was going to ask if the Noctua NH-D15 would fit then you did it :) best of all it comes with a non RGB solid side panel model.

    I know it's 4.5 months later but I am going to let you know what I think. My son and I built me a computer with this case and it went pretty well considering we are fairly new to this hobby. I used the Noctura D-15 as well. The 5900X and a EVGA RTX 3070, the ASUS ProArt Creator MoBo with 64 MB of ram and 2 1TB M.2's. I am using a Seasonic 850 Watt Power Supply. The system works very well so far. I did add a 140 fan in the back because I had a gift card to use up. Here's the thing that makes me a fanboy of this case even more evident. I doubled down on the whole Torrent thing and ordered another one. This time with the RGB fans. Here's my plan: The boys (two guys in their 20s) both have older computers with "hot box" type cases and will be upgrading at some point. I am going to take the RGB fans out of the new one and swap them out of my case (Note the RGB cases were out of stock when we built my computer). Then I am going to sit on that case until they decide to build and just donate it to the first kid that requires it. Once I tell them I have a free case like this to build in then it might get things going faster. It may not be fair to the other one so I might just buy a third one when the time comes. The other reason I went this direction is because if I just ordered RGB fans then I would end up with extra fans to store or sell. Obviously if I didn't have someone to give the other case to then I wouldn't have done it this way. In fact I would probably just accept it as it is. But those lit up fans look pretty cool on these TH-cam videos and I just want to make it a feature of my desk/office/studio decor. I am concerned about getting them all daisy chained together though. I am sure I will learn something from trying to get the RGB fans set up. I have looked for extension cables but not sure what to look for. I barely made the back fan cable reach that fan multi plug unit. I don't have the defective one BTW. Thanks!

      I'm just about to make a build almost exactly the same spec as you (even down to the extra fan on the back), went with the 3070ti and more storage and the RGB case. I think it represents a good choice for a capable system without going nuts on the spending. The 3080Ti was £500 more here in the UK, more than I wanted to spend and the extra for the 5950X not worth the slim gains I'd see for my uses - photoshop and Davinci Resolve mainly. Looking forward to getting the build done and ripping through my editing!
      Hope you enjoy the cooling lighting. I saw a vid where the guy set his lights to a gold colour and had black and gold coloured extension cables, it did look really good. This one th-cam.com/video/vAIzTq9t_a8/w-d-xo.html he has links to the cable extenders he bought and they might have the ones you are looking for, I think they do a complete kit for about $50

      We are building an AiO version now. But TBH it's not going to be better it will be slightly worse I would expect unless you just used REALLY nice fans. Then you could get it on par.

    Shame about the PSU placement, I use a top mounted AIO/exhaust, and much as I like this case's design, that's a deal breaker for me.

  • @cemsengul16

    I would build with this case utilizing an AIO with an LCD and a hybrid GPU that has an AIO radiator mounted to the bottom. I would have the GPU exhaust out the bottom and the CPU exhaust out of the top.

    "In fact AMD said you shouldn't air cool the 5950X" lmao what a joke go tell them that the NH-D15 trashed every cringe high-end "RGB" water cooler on the market.

    • @ilovehotdogs125790
      @ilovehotdogs125790 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it didnt. The nh-d15 is great, but a good aio is better. I personally tested it when overclocking my 10900k. I had to get rid of the nh-d15. For non-overclocking though.. its a great option if you dont want to deal with a pump potentially dying

  • @ForsakenFn
    @ForsakenFn ปีที่แล้ว

    imagine if they did a smart move on this case, having a 240 or even 280 aio support in the back, with them massive front fans infront. To me it not only sounds smart but logical.

    • @gorkskoal9315
      @gorkskoal9315 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      that to. How about: the pultry space for putting cables in, not having single block for front io. better quality parts. more space for hard drives, those things that are still king for price and space. fixing the anemic space for a PSU. But sure also use the second chamber for AIO.
