If you watched Simona when she was losing all those heartbreaking finals in extremely close matches and going and lamenting on her Facebook, you know that when she edges out her opponents to win Finals in matches like this one, she absolutely deserves it. All great matches this week. I love her to no end. She inspires me and I am extremely happy for her. Good luck to Rybakina, I'm sure she has a nice story of her own that she is continuing to build and she looks like she is going to be a super-star. The WTA tour right now is the most competitive contest in all of sports. And I love that.
2 points. First, she's not her top gear this season (yet), which is proved occasional, unexpected losses. Then, how she won?! She can't outplay her opponent by power play or big serve. You see? How tenacious Simona Halep of 1.68 cm of height! Secondly, she's stuck to her gun throughout the match. A simple strategy: to play my game. Her strength is the capacity of concentrating herself each point. She's a very strong self-believer. How could she more strongly believe in herself under extremely huge pressure in the deciding set?! The hardest thing is what she has done. Exhausted mentally!

An extraordinary match, possibly one of the matches of the year ... that I missed!! The crux is in the decider, following the stats point by point. Unusually high standard in the performance of both players. Doing her job with calm is not what was expected from a younger, less experienced player. Then, there came her extraordinary mental power to hit back. A deficit cancelled immediately. Having a look at the stats of the final set, Simona fared poorly after her second serve. Not much concern there because 70 odds first serve % followed by equally great efficiency didn't allow her opponent to do much about it. She successfully demonstrated who's a boss! Halep/Rybakina match, reminded me of Djokovic/Federer close matches. Whatever Rybakina (Federer) throws at Halep (Djokovic), she get it back into play. Finally Rybakina(Federer) gets fed up and goes for an ultra-aggressive shot, making an unforced error. Game Set Match-- Halep/Djokovic.
That's true, also Rybakina looks as calm (and cold-blooded) as Federer in most of the matches, but need to work still, I'm believe in her, I don't think she will ever stop working :P
Not really a fair comparison though. Federer can handle Djokovic's game just fine, he proved it in a ton of matches. His biggest defeats came because Djokovic edged him mentally. This match was different. Rybakina does not yet have the experience to make correct choices in order to handle Halep's game. That being said, Rybakina is one of the most matured young players I've seen for a while. She wants to play an all round game and she employs an attacking high risk game but at the same time she is pretty solid and able to adapt her ground strokes when she needs to.
@neophytosdm: It's very unfair, that people just don't give enough credit to Djokovic's actual game and attribute it all to his mentality. The reason even the best struggle with Djokovic is... his unparalleled depth, pace and consistency of both flanks (FH and BH). He just doesn't give you the odd short or loose ball to be put away. Putting you under relentless pressure. His mental strength is needed only to get through difficult situations, his talent does the rest. A peak Federer with "NEO" Backhand can match upto to peak Djokovic. But nowadays with a declining Fed, if Djokovic is playing anywhere close to his best, we know the outcome.
@@Zeus-ei1ik You misunderstood. No person that knows a bit about tennis would discredit Djokovic's game. If his game did not AT LEAST match the level of Federer the mentality alone would not make any difference. His game has unique characteristics just like Federer's and Nadal's. Still, the decisive factor in Fed's biggest defeats was mentality. "Unparalleled depth" only on his backhand. Federer and Nadal have better forehand. I agree that Djokovic has the best forehand-backhand balance from the three though. Federer's backhand falls apart way more than Novak's forehand in the last decade.
Congratulate to Halep for the final win. And I can't help to notice that Rybakina was playing quietly, comparing to most of nowadays players. It's very interesting.
You don't need to grunt to generate a lot of power. A lot of the grunting I see from other players is forced. Might be strategy to mask the sound of the ball hitting the racket or intimidation, not sure why they do it but it does get out of control sometimes.
@@animefan2215 Thanks for your explanation and it's very interesting point of view. And I agreed, the noisy grunt sometimes is out of control and does distract my focus on the games. However, I think it's a strategy as you said.
