  • @stuartkcalvin

    I have to say, that since subscribing, I'm very impressed - a lot. I'm an old Australian Army guy, still serving, and I subscribe to to two USA corn farmers, a USA hog farmer, Ward Carroll who's a former tactical fighter pilot, Spare Parts Army and a whole lot (not many, really) of other eclectic channels.
    My point is that if you are interesting, informative and have quality content, I don't care what your job is. I just want to relax and watch interesting experts.
    I'm a 4xD person, I have those channels, but diversity is a wonderful thing.
    Still catching up :)

    Happy New Year Johnno,
    I hope you had some quality time at home over the, festive holidays.
    Another cracking video of a true professional.
    I grow up around trucks,and farming. We had our own trucks when I was a child, and I started driving as soon as I was able to touch the pedals.
    I have had a truck license since I was, 21. As much as, I loved to drive dad wanted me to have a trade.
    I have had lots of experience with heavy haulage, and rear steering, module trailers, but seeing you put that, dolly on that trailer was fantastic to see.
    I enjoyed watching you guys doing the business, and making it look easy.
    It not an easy life when you are doing it in the, extreme weather, dust, monsoons, not to mention the wild life.
    It is no wonder you guys call us winging Pom’s! 😂 some of our boys cry if they have to go to, France.
    Keep on trucking, Johnno. Stay safe good buddy, and 10-10.
    PS the Cabover, Kenworth looks nice. Do you prefer a bonneted, or the cabover?

    • @RoadTrainAdventures
      @RoadTrainAdventures  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I much prefer my big bonnet than a cabover. It's all about the comfort. A long wheel base isn't going to throw you around over the bumps.
      What's wrong with going to France? I can only dream of doing something like that.

    We top our empty flatbeds to send back to the UK on the ferry from Jersey. It saves on shipping costs because the ferry company charges by the metre so the top one goes for free.
    We don't have a ramp to top them, the trailers have twist locks and we use a flat container and the freighter forklift lifts it on top of the other trailer. Not going to lie a ramp seems a bit safer but space is limited on our tiny island 😅

    Haaa the back trailer gate... my memory goes back to mid 1970's , was driving for Flemings out of Wagga Wagga , had to load an empty trailer that was in Fleet Express Car Carrier yard in Melbourne, after I got it on could see the rear gate will go back up so so trying to get it into position I lost balance and ended up down off the loading ramp onto the ground, the bloody gate followed me and landed on my ankle, could not put any weight on the foot , still drove back home over night , the pain was terrible, Doctor said nothing was broken so took a load of bulk grain down to Melbourne the next night,,

    Damaging his ramp? If it was made properly in the first place and not made so it needs rebuilding every 10-12 trailer movements!? Anyway, some great info. I've only ever dragged around A-B and singles, truck and dog. This will be next perhaps. Slow is fast. Thinking leads to not having to "Fix" things. A lot more professional than you were making it out to be. Dropping the draw bar and ring onto the tarp to save a dint in the bosses trailer for example. Good job, "Over!" 👍👋

    Interesting video. You don't say how long the trip was but I'm surprised it's worthwhile stacking the trailers like that. I wouldn't have thought the fuel and tyre savings were worth your time unless it was a seriously long trip. Plus it doesn't look very safe to me, you would only need a accident or two causing an injured driver for the increased workers compensation premiums to discourage the boss from making you do it.

      It is worth it. As I'm an employee, the tone he pays me to stack the trailers is going to be easy less than the extra fuel they would spend dragging the trailers 1600kms on the ground.

      @RoadTrainAdventures  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes and no. It uses a lot less fuel dragging one trailer instead of two and a dolly.

    Interesting how you lot donit in oz . We use a ramp too , its a bit shallower in angle than yours , sonwe dont ground belly boxes on trailers out . We stack them with doubles , triples if headboards are low enough . Even do 5 in one with 2 upside down they are craned on mainly for export to africa . How long are your trailers . Look longer than ours in uk . Ours vary from 40 , 45 foot in length . Got a few rear steer ( rear most axle of a tri axle steers ) 50 footers for trunk runs . . Too much red tape in uk for us to have combos like u lot in oz

    • @RoadTrainAdventures
      @RoadTrainAdventures  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Every ramp is built differently. Most people just build their own. This one wasn't built for trailers as they normally just use it to load a tractor which had heaps of clearance.
      Our trailers are all 45 foot but some are 40 foot for pulling containers only.

    Hi John, thanks again for this interesting video. I have a question again: Does the trailers and dollies have ABS? At minute 9:40 you show the electric plug for the connection of the prime mover with the trailer. I have seen that the plug has 7 pins. May you explain me the pin assignment? The function of this seven pins? Is there ABS included too? Because in Europe we have two electric connections, two plugs, two cables. One is for the ilumination of the trailers, the other is for controlling the ABS. Thanks heaps and stay safe mate 😀👍

    • @RoadTrainAdventures

      No. A little of the opposite. When you're loaded there is more weight holding the tyres on the ground and less likely to skid. When you're empty then you're very likely to skid into the back of something.
