Nas said working with the Beasties was one of the highlights of his career
I instantly like him more.
Shows you how much respect NAS has for those who paved the streets before him
RIP ADAM!!!!
So true! His stuff on this is so good too!!
3rd Bass brought Nas in, and the Beasties and 3rd Bass never, ever got along long. Both of them have diss tracks about the other. Some of them subtle, some overt.
@@mlsanders4800😮
they paved the streets? didn't know they worked for the city
@@mlsanders4800 oh shit, forgot about that, good call. Serch is a grade A jerkoff nowadays so maybe Nas figured the statute of limitations expired

Ya they were actually good back then too
Eighty muthafukkin three !
Michael Bevel so funny love them.
There’s no point trying to explain how legendary these musicians are. If you know, you know. 🤷🏻♂️

Wow!
I didn't even know Nas and The Beastie Boys did a track together!

Must not be a real Beastie Boys fan then.
He didn't say he was, lol.
First song on hot sauce committee
Check out the Santigold one

Too many rappers and not enough MCs. Truer every year.
Me and my daughter spin the Beastie boys vinyls every day during lunch. She loves it. That's our moment. We love you.

Awesome!
I'm not sure how I'd react if I saw the Beastie Boys and Nas going ham in the produce department.
Lol
Just get out the way.
😂
Nas with the assist or the whole thing
Are you kidding, I would start beat boxing! In my dreams lol
This is why Nas is truly one of the greats. Putting ego aside and showing love to those who pave the way before him. Nas ain't money and nonsense. Dude is a rap historian and always pays respect to those who came first. In a genre where most just care about the next best thing he shows genuine love for hip hop in a way few rappers do now a days. Shout out to the Beasties too. They showed the world hip hop wasn't the color of your skin, where you're from, or how hardcore you are. It's a way an expression of who you are.
Money and nonsense. Seems like that's the trend now.
@@haveapotato691 Truth right there....

I don’t think people really understand and how iconic this collaboration is. And they made a video for the track? Amazing.
Hahaha i had forgot about this one !
Yes the reunion is bow amazing !!
Nas, we had lost him a little for while, but dmn this king is really breathing RAP.
The Beasties at their best.

It's kinda crazy how this song came out in 2009 but is extremely relevant right now.
Actually the album was delayed to 2011.
@@AirCanMaster Oops, my bad. Thanks for informing me. Either way my comment still stands.
@@goofyanimal I just remember when the album dropped. Had to double check because of the copyright date. It was due to the diagnosis.

I see.
Bonnaroo 2009, I was there for the final show. When they announced Nas was coming out with them my brain melted and this was truly a show for the ages. RIP MCA
Pwowwww!!!
That must have been awsome man !
Was the only time they performed together ?
Unfortunately it was the last time :/ As an old school hiphop fan we need Beastie Boys, the extra stuff their spiritual energy put into NAS (whose already a who’s who of legends); this culture of lifeless reboots and whatever else, we need them.
I was there, too! I'd been waiting 22 years- since I was nine years old- to see the Beastie Boys and finally got to see them up close and personal at what turned out to be their final show. Bitter-sweet memories!
June 12th, 2009. This was the last show they would ever play, headlining Bonnaroo. They shot all of the footage with Nas before the show that day just driving around Tennessee. Directed by Roman Coppola.
Thank you for this info. Awesome!
I was at this show. I went expecting a great show from the Beastie’s and the headliner Phish. Phish was great, as expected, but the Beastie Boys stole that show. Mixmaster Mike, that set, that energy. Literally the best live show I’ve ever been to. And then they brought out NAS. And dropped this absolute monster of a debut. I cried like a baby. They went out with a bang, man.
There was crazy weather leading up to the start of the event. We were coming up from Chattanooga just for the Sunday shows and you could see remnants of the storm.
"I been in the game, since before you was born, I might still be MC-in even after your gone..." Fuck yeah you will MCA. FOREVER AND EVER.
*you're gone
@@Hellwyck this hip hop, grammar has no place in their scene especially for us New Yorkers like Nas and the Beasties! Word!

Love how these guys and NAS can MC without talking about guns, drugs, crimes, etc. Respect!
1:21
@@theknard3202 Hes literally anti guns in that verse. He says "Im not a killer, but still compared to you Im more real, youre not a mobster or a drug dealer, a slug peeler youre not, are you a Mafioso no, you aint even got it in ya"... The whole verse is literally mocking rappers who pretend to be hard by rapping about gang violence. The whole point of the song is everyone wants to be a rapper and rap about tough shit, but they have lost the love for the actual music. "To many rappers not enough MC's".
Rappin in a grocery store's produce aisle with a fisheye lense never looked so cool.
Beastie Boys are always 1000%
Damn.. I guess the Beasties craziness brought the young parts of Nas back. You can see he is in his comfort zone having fun.
This tune is mental. It has been around for years but still feels totally fresh. Better than anything knocking around today. Beastie Boys and Nas are legendary....
I love you MCA..miss you so much.. you were the authentic one for real..never get over you..
Since ‘86 The Beastie Boys been on my turntable, in my tape deck, in my CD player and now constantly on my Spotify playlist. MCA may be gone, but they’ll always live on.
Beastie Boys certified ill..helped true hip hop evolve...even though hip hop is far from what it was no one i mean not single hip hop head called these dudes wiggers or wanna be's they were apart of the message and the culture

Beastie Boys and Nas nailed it pretty much. Too many rappers, not enough MC’s.
This is real hip-hop rap. Real Emcees. Dope.
When MCA was in his last years, he looked SO MUCH like my dad when he was his age. My god.
It's like I'm watching my dad with his friends from decades ago in this video or something.
They always had so much fun together, got super creative and stayed together like brothers. Let's be more like the Beastie Boys y'all.
RIP MCA, that voice is iconic.

This is so on point. Lyrical greatness
" too many rappers, not enough MC's"
It's pretty dope to see a different kinda energy from Nas on this track...it's like the Beastie Boys bring out that fun, party vibe in anyone they come in contact with.
"i never die cause death is the cousin of sleep" Good NY state of mind reference literally had me jump from the hype it gave me

I would've loved to be at that show where they were all on stage together doing this song! This collab is so dope 🎤🎛🎶🕶
I sadly dont think it ever got to happen, MCA passed away a year later, and I think he wass too pour health to perforn
@@RikelWirkkunen Yes, it did happen. The concert footage in this video is from Bonnaroo 2009 where they did indeed bring NAS out on stage with them. This video was shot around the same time in Nashville (an hour from where Bonnaroo is held in Manchester, Tennessee). It was supposed to be the first show on their tour that summer, but unfortunately MCA was diagnosed with cancer soon afterwards, the tour was canceled, and the Bonnaroo show with NAS turned out to be their very last. It was the only time I ever got to see them perform live.

Nas is amongst the rare few gems who stands in the line of TRUE HIP HOP KINGS!
Just in the way Nas (The Goat) adjusts and circumvents his wordplay and skill in order to never purposefully outshine but rather show reverence and homage to the great Beastie Boys shows the class of not only an MC, but a person he is. (You can also see his fanboy side come out in the scenes) Journey Well, MCA.

That's not a bar.. the word bar connotates the use of a literary device to make a punchline, like double entendres, similies or metaphors. Thats literally just a simple brag about how much money he has. If lil Yachty spit that you'd call it trash.
