This is actually the reason and purpose for which Hip Hop was meant to be.
King Nas for life.
Early days of NY Hip Hop culture and Universal Zulu Nation, the first block parties with breakers battling, a healthy musical outlet as an antidote to gang violence. Some proud origins. Respect to the founders, Kool Herc and Bam, Grand Master Flash True-school hip hop. EOTO
Nasir was here
Go look at Tupac and his work.

Best generation homie never stop listening to this genre ..... We need to have the radio and TV bring back the real shit !
My name is Jack from Taiwan and this is my story. 10 years ago, I was the one who got 0 in my English exam back in junior high school. I have no idea how to improve my English since the text book is too difficult for me to understand. One day I heard this song in a burger restaurant, I liked it so much so I told myself said: one day, I will able to understand everything in this song. It took me a while to find this song because I could only type “be where I wanna be” to search (I didn’t even know wanna is want to😂 at that time). After few months of study, my English improved a lot, I got 60 in my English exam! But some how, I became a person that is brave, confident enough to speak English with foreigner on the street. Thank you Nas for making these wonderful, motivative and positive songs, I want to thank me as well, for putting efforts and making a change. 💜
Im touched by your words. Congratulations bro and big thanks to NAS for blessing the world with this timeless record
💖💖🥰
You made a story with a song that is a source of inspiration for your story
Good job man this was touching
Your story made me smile.
“If the truth is told, the youth can grow.”
-Nas.
If the truth is told, the youth can grow
GROW and HEAL
Ral had a meaning back then
This year's mid terms in 2022 the Gen Z voters outvoted old white voters for the first time
If the truth is told, the youth can grow
As I recall, Nas wrote this song at the request of his Mother, who had asked that he release an inspirational song for children before she passed away. This was him fulfilling his promise to do so.
For someone who writes such deep raps with integral stories, it shows the man's talent that he can compose something so simple yet meaningful.

Here in Jupiter planet we r 2090 , 66 yrs ahead of Earth’s planet still listening Nas
Why didn't he got a Grammy for this, this is better than so many hip hop songs
It didn't even blow up much so painful
Because it is a positive song that teaches kids from all walks of life to achieve. But if it was the opposite then it would have been nominated.
Because it's the truth and the truth hurts. They'd rather have someone like lil nas x representing black men. Smh🤦
Because he was telling the truth about Egypt. The history that was whitewashed
Songs like this dont win grammies they want to keep us dumb ignorant and violent
Just a positive message and not drugs weed or twerking girls. Hip-Hop at its finest.
oh yeah yeah man
90s hip hop also had those... yall old heads contradicting
@HAYT sounds like you have "back in my day" syndrome, people have always fucked and smoked weed, and they used their free will to do so too. amazing, isnt it
@@yeetsmith1105 My thing is artistry kinda ceases to exist in my generation. The ones who show this barely get the time of day.

Well explained
As I'm playing it for my 14 year old son glued to his xbox!
This song gave me strength when I was young and impressionable. That’s when I knew Nas was different. His outreach to the youth commendable. The real king of New York City. I’m Greek so those parts about Greeks and Roman and Alexander the Great mentions hit home
Remember when rappers used to tell stories and not just rap about how much they have
Pretty much what I said in another convo What people view and choose to consume as media will always reflect what's coming next.
If you do really appreciate rap with intelligent lyrics and you are truly tired of those with small to no content in their chants simply stop consuming their product. They will collapse of their own.
And that doesn't go only for music. It goes for all. Money is power, use your power (give power) sparingly and only to those you truly feel deserve it. Because they will use it the way THEY see fit. And when it comes to music, well Migos will produce more Migos album with more money/views people give him....

Lyrics:
I know I can
Be what I wanna be
If I work hard at it
I'll be where I wanna be
I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (Be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)
Be, b-boys and girls, listen up
You can be anything in the world, in God we trust
An architect, doctor, maybe an actress
But nothing comes easy, it takes much practice
Like, I met a woman who's becoming a star
She was very beautiful, leaving people in awe
Singing songs, Lena Horne, but the younger version
Hung with the wrong person, got her strung on that heroin
Cocaine, sniffing up drugs, all in her nose
Could've died, so young, now looks ugly and old
No fun 'cause now when she reaches for hugs, people hold their breath
'Cause she smells of corrosion and death
Watch the company you keep and the crowd you bring
'Cause they came to do drugs and you came to sing
So if you gonna be the best, I'ma tell you how
Put your hands in the air, and take the vow
I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (Be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)
I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (Be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)
Be, b-boys and girls, listen again
This is for grown-looking girls who's only 10
The ones who watch videos and do what they see
As cute as can be, up in the club with fake ID
Careful, 'fore you meet a man with HIV
You can host the TV like Oprah Winfrey
Whatever you decide, be careful, some men be
Rapists, so act your age, don't pretend to be
Older than you are, give yourself time to grow
You thinking he can give you wealth, but so
Young boys, you can use a lot of help, you know
You thinking life's all about smoking weed and ice
You don't wanna be my age and can't read and write
Begging different women for a place to sleep at night
Smart boys turn to men and do whatever they wish
If you believe you can achieve, then say it like this
I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (Be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be) (Now, go)
I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (Be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)
Be, be-fore we came to this country
We were kings and queens, never porch monkeys
There was empires in Africa called Kush
Timbuktu, where every race came to get books
To learn from black teachers who taught Greeks and Romans
Asian Arabs and gave them gold, when
Gold was converted to money it all changed
Money then became empowerment for Europeans
The Persian military invaded
They heard about the gold, the teachings, and everything sacred
Africa was almost robbed naked
Slavery was money, so they began making slave ships
Egypt was the place that Alexander the Great went
He was so shocked at the mountains with black faces
Shot up they nose to impose what basically
Still goes on today, you see?
If the truth is told, the youth can grow
They learn to survive until they gain control
Nobody says you have to be gangstas, hoes
Read more, learn more, change the globe
Ghetto children, do your thing
Hold your head up, little man, you're a king
Young princess when you get your wedding ring
Your man is saying "She's my Queen"
I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (Be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)
I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (Be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)

It seems that the the doctrine perhaps best named 'black pride' is so deep into the victim role that they allowed themselves special rights to assume history even though it is not at all proven or even deliberately altering it.

@Natalie Cramer what's so funny about it?
There's school curriculum that actually tells inner city kids they can't be anything and the system holds them back.
Keeping them stuck...like plantation owners telling slaves how bad the world is and they need to stay on the farm and be safe.
How about you get then to read. .start with school work first. It's up to the teachers to see if the kids succeed.
There's always trouble sometimes...ain't always easy. But if you start out quiting. You're stuck.

Child friendly rap music, you don't get that a lot.
I wish this had more views. Maybe our society wouldn't be so fucked up if they listened to this song.
the
you can't really believe this....
+MayuriKurotsuchi you're probably white washed
Tripped me out that this doesn't have 200mil views
but has 900 + down thumbs, you do the math ..wow !
Radio spin nothing but things that trash your mind.......Rap Gods like Nas we all must pursue to expand our circumference of knowledge and wisdom. I play this along with other artists that spit that positive motivation....it really gets your day going.
Respect to nas for looking out for the youngins
I wish artist these days will make music with a lesson like this
+Jasmine Ferguson hello pretty ¡¡
+Jasmine Ferguson J. Cole!!!!
Bitch Dab
+Jasmine Ferguson They do
+Jasmine Ferguson They do
America needs music like this in 2020..
The new generation is so lost. Let's not loose the battle.
4:10 SAVE THE MUSIC YALL
2006; NAS: "Hip hop... hip hop... IS DEAD"
2020: are we where we wanna be?
They wouldnt be lost if we listened to NAS and... HIEROGLYPHICS/SOULS OF MISCHIEF ...who are the best group ever imo, wordsmiths, Lyrical geniuses, and changed the way people rapped. The multi's, thought pattern, and rhyme scheme was something special. This is proof th-cam.com/video/58a5fzh0tJo/w-d-xo.html Eminem and Andre 3000 were influenced by Hiero and says they are "RAPPERS RAPPERS"
The world needs a JUICE CREW, WUTANG, HIEROGLYPHICS reunion/celebration of hip-hop!! Real hip hop. Those 3 crews arguably defined the golden age of hip hop.
Hieroglyphics crew is best imo though. 93' Til Infinity, 3rd Eye Vision, and Trilogy.... Those 3 albums are better than any 3 and other crew can assemble. Add Full Circle and its a wrap.
Souls of Mischief/Hieroglyphics flows were sacred writings. Thats what Hieroglyphics means: sacred writings.
The world needs real MC's
93' Til Infinity - th-cam.com/video/fXJc2NYwHjw/w-d-xo.html
Make Your Mind Up - th-cam.com/video/OYGYEn3K-CA/w-d-xo.html

What A Way To Go Out - th-cam.com/video/Y_3OHvY16qo/w-d-xo.html
And that's only 5 of my fav tracks of their.... they have DOZENS of songs better than most rappers/crews BEST.
@ConkeyCrack I agree.
Nas alone has done enough to liberate the black community
FUN FACT: NO ONE CARES WHICH YEAR YOU VISITED THE SONG
2020 aNyONE
Yet.. Thry got 4k odd liked and u got 23

Radio stations should just randomly play this song twice a day, everyday, for the rest of the year. Its super necessary for not just us, but for the ones that are lost right now to hear this.
What year? For life
Don’t think they played this song in mainstream radio back in the days correct me if I’m wrong ...
@@SajidHussain-gt6ig this song was played almost every day the year came out.
@@SajidHussain-gt6ig Yep, it used to play in the stations in Houston when it came out.

@@Babybat213 Ok, where's you track? The ones with longevity and pass knowledge are the most skillful. Sales make you rich...doesn't mean you're a natural.

That first Grammy is long overdue. Congratulations Nasty Nas.👑🏆
Clearly they have the wrong people voting for a long time Nas has been 🔥 for decades.
@@jasminemonroe5784 OLD WHITE PEOPLE WHO ARE SO FOAR FROM THE CULTURE. THAT IS WHY T.I. JOINED THE COMITTEE
Nas is beyond a grammy. They should be happy to just put Nas in their list.
th-cam.com/video/ets9skozGQc/w-d-xo.html
No one is going to give him a Grammy.. he is not singing about bitches, drugs and violence
35 years old now and still listening to this. We need to bring these lyrics back. ❤️
What's up fellow old millennial. 35 y/o here. I somehow happened upon this song after probably a decade. I wish this song was blasting from people's car's.
Yess 💯
Ik that's right
Could not agree more!

"you don't wanna be my age and can't read and write , begging different women for a place to sleep at night" BRO

Despa TV An eemce not a Rapper, an eemce :)
Lyrical content, bars, no mumbling at all, telling a story, giving a positive message. What hip hop used to be.
This a statement that people can make inspirational and great music. Not promoting sex, money and murder
Sending a positive message is still happening nowadays
@@ko-rp7ge Nah
@@dabossmanjae5560 Yes the same promoting sex and violence been going on since the late 80s,but for some reason since it's in the 80s and 90s it's considered good music. When artists send messages or have meaning in a song y'all ignore it.
