I just turned 30 today and I’m still singing this song lol ... the part when he said “you can be anything in the world .. in God we trust .. an architect, a doctor , maybe an actress but nothing comes easy it takes much practice” ... and now I’m in school to become a doctor 👩🏽‍⚕️

As I recall, Nas wrote this song at the request of his Mother, who had asked that he release an inspirational song for children before she passed away. This was him fulfilling his promise to do so.
For someone who writes such deep raps with integral stories, it shows the man's talent that he can compose something so simple yet meaningful.

Pretty much what I said in another convo What people view and choose to consume as media will always reflect what's coming next.
If you do really appreciate rap with intelligent lyrics and you are truly tired of those with small to no content in their chants simply stop consuming their product. They will collapse of their own.
And that doesn't go only for music. It goes for all. Money is power, use your power (give power) sparingly and only to those you truly feel deserve it. Because they will use it the way THEY see fit. And when it comes to music, well Migos will produce more Migos album with more money/views people give him....

This is a timeless classic that will never die out or get old. I often play this in the morning with my kids before they get out of the car for school. I do so to plant the subliminal seed so that they will know that they can do and have what the song is saying. There are so many other songs and messages on the radio that plant poison and destruction, I make the conscious choice to do otherwise. Nas thank you for your contribution to the world. God's blessings to you and your family, be well.

I listen to this song almost daily. As a proud Haitian, belonging to the first free and independent Black nation in the world, I am reminded of the courage with which our ancestors defeated Napoleon’s army. This song deserves a place in our schools, as it unveils parts of our history that have been hidden from us for too long. It resonates deeply, serving as a powerful reminder of our rich heritage and the importance of passing it on to future generations.

Where is the evidence that Alexander the Great damaged the nose of the sphinx?
It seems that the the doctrine perhaps best named 'black pride' is so deep into the victim role that they allowed themselves special rights to assume history even though it is not at all proven or even deliberately altering it.
The 'we are the victims so we are allowed to lie' ofcourse goes at the expense of your credibility.

    Lyrics:
    I know I can
    Be what I wanna be
If I work hard at it
I'll be where I wanna be
    I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (Be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)
Be, b-boys and girls, listen up
You can be anything in the world, in God we trust
An architect, doctor, maybe an actress
But nothing comes easy, it takes much practice
    Like, I met a woman who's becoming a star
She was very beautiful, leaving people in awe
Singing songs, Lena Horne, but the younger version
Hung with the wrong person, got her strung on that heroin
Cocaine, sniffing up drugs, all in her nose
Could've died, so young, now looks ugly and old
No fun 'cause now when she reaches for hugs, people hold their breath
'Cause she smells of corrosion and death
Watch the company you keep and the crowd you bring
'Cause they came to do drugs and you came to sing
So if you gonna be the best, I'ma tell you how
Put your hands in the air, and take the vow
    I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (Be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)
    I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (Be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)
Be, b-boys and girls, listen again
This is for grown-looking girls who's only 10
The ones who watch videos and do what they see
As cute as can be, up in the club with fake ID
Careful, 'fore you meet a man with HIV
You can host the TV like Oprah Winfrey
Whatever you decide, be careful, some men be
Rapists, so act your age, don't pretend to be
Older than you are, give yourself time to grow
You thinking he can give you wealth, but so
Young boys, you can use a lot of help, you know
You thinking life's all about smoking weed and ice
You don't wanna be my age and can't read and write
Begging different women for a place to sleep at night
Smart boys turn to men and do whatever they wish
If you believe you can achieve, then say it like this
    I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (Be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be) (Now, go)
    I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (Be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)
Be, be-fore we came to this country
We were kings and queens, never porch monkeys
There was empires in Africa called Kush
Timbuktu, where every race came to get books
To learn from black teachers who taught Greeks and Romans
Asian Arabs and gave them gold, when
Gold was converted to money it all changed
Money then became empowerment for Europeans
    The Persian military invaded
They heard about the gold, the teachings, and everything sacred
    Africa was almost robbed naked
Slavery was money, so they began making slave ships
Egypt was the place that Alexander the Great went
He was so shocked at the mountains with black faces
Shot up they nose to impose what basically
Still goes on today, you see?
If the truth is told, the youth can grow
They learn to survive until they gain control
Nobody says you have to be gangstas, hoes
Read more, learn more, change the globe
    Ghetto children, do your thing
Hold your head up, little man, you're a king
Young princess when you get your wedding ring
Your man is saying "She's my Queen"
    I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (Be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)
    I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (Be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)
    Save the music, y'all
    Save the music, y'all
    Save the music, y'all

Alexander didn’t do anything to Sphinx noses, and the idea is based on a myth that Napoleon did so, which he didn’t do either, it was much more likely to be other pharaohs such as Akhenaten, who declared himself a God and dismissed his predecessors, the Persians didn’t rob Egypt and steal everything either, they only controlled Egypt for 150 years, and suggesting that Africa was empty from the Hellenistic period onwards is not correct, Nas is dismissive of Rome, Islam and the ottomans in Africa, and jumps to slavery which was in a different area of Africa, west and south instead of north where Egypt is, so it’s quite problematic as a history lesson, but I’ve always loved nas and the attempt by him to make a good song with a real pointed lesson and it’s a shame that songs such as this barely make an impact yet generic and crass songs blow up and are remembered worldwide

My name is Jack from Taiwan and this is my story. 10 years ago, I was the one who got 0 in my English exam back in junior high school. I have no idea how to improve my English since the text book is too difficult for me to understand. One day I heard this song in a burger restaurant, I liked it so much so I told myself said: one day, I will able to understand everything in this song. It took me a while to find this song because I could only type “be where I wanna be” to search (I didn’t even know wanna is want to😂 at that time). After few months of study, my English improved a lot, I got 60 in my English exam! But some how, I became a person that is brave, confident enough to speak English with foreigner on the street. Thank you Nas for making these wonderful, motivative and positive songs, I want to thank me as well, for putting efforts and making a change. 💜

There's school curriculum that actually tells inner city kids they can't be anything and the system holds them back.
Keeping them stuck...like plantation owners telling slaves how bad the world is and they need to stay on the farm and be safe.
How about you get then to read. .start with school work first. It's up to the teachers to see if the kids succeed.
There's always trouble sometimes...ain't always easy. But if you start out quiting. You're stuck.

      I used the " I know I can
be what I want to be,
When I work hard at it,
then I can be what I want to be " lines today at a primary school I was doing motivation at this morning.
The kids loved the lines because I made them sing. They may not understand what I was doing today or even the words, but in the future, they will.
When I left, they wanted to leave with me.

Nas is the GOD MC - I’m 43 this year and have studied hip hop for a very long time. This story is equal to no other. As a new father, a man who grew up beyond poor, and have climbed out of the gutter, I can say with out a doubt music like this saved my life. Blessings to all that teach not preach how to become better humans. When my baby girl is of age we will study this song, build on what it means, and strategize how to look within not out the window and become confused. May peace be upon you all!
