I must be psychotic because I actually save all 1965 to 1969 Washington quarters because there are several errors, double dies, etc. in many of those years. When you think of it, you actually don't see many of the 1965 to 1969 quarters anymore (compared to the 1970 and up). I usually find about a few in each ten dollar roll. They look exactly the same as the silver ones (1932-1964) except the sides.
I have 2 . one is in good shape , can clearly see the mistakes. The other is in good shape but the color looks like it was in a room full of smoke . Found a 1940 nickel the other day that didn't look old at all..
I have 4 of the '67 quarter is as you say "looks like it was smoked. I'm going to recheck them using some of his tips. I have one that looks almost new. I've had mine a long time so I'm going to sell them now.
