That board is super clean! I haven't played that game much but I don't think I've ever made it to the top. I can never seem to time the jump correctly. You had me gripping on a few of those jumps haha!
I made my own vertical screen DK machine using a Jamma board. Simple, inexpensive build and plays perfect. You'd be impressed if you saw the layout. Totally custom 1 of a kind.
I have to give credit where credit is due. Mad props Ralph on getting the controls working on the first try, you're actually getting better at the hobby more than you think and learning something new everyday you dabble with these Nintendo cabs. We're soon going to call you the Nintendo cab master restorer. Thanks for the update and we look forward to more videos on the progress.
Tell Kim that Mandy and Nick say she rocks, and we need more Kim! Those Wago wire nuts are lifesavers. I think I’m on my way to pick up a Donkey Kong because of you. 🤪 Great video, and if we don’t talk have a great time on your honeymoon.
The board set you have is the 4 board stack which is normally found in the Cocktail version. The 2 board version has the connectors and an edge connector so you could have wired it to the edge connector if you wanted. You didn't need to wire that credit button in if the cabinet is wired correctly as there is a button on the coin door that you can use to add credits.
My cabinet is all hacked up on the original harnesses because it was a radarscope converted to a DK then converted to a vs. unisystem. Along the way parts were hacked, thrown away and god knows what else. I'm going to wire up the coin mechs and the service switch for now tapping into what's there. Later on when MikesArcade has the repro harnesses back, I will do it proper. Thanks so much for your comment and for watching, it's much appreciated!
I remember from John's Arcade the only thing you loose from the switching power supply is the coin odometer, I can confirm that is the case with my TNT DK. Not a bad trade off great work so far!
@@tntamusements oh neat thanks for the info I'll keep that in mind if mine went down but it's definitely not that big of a deal! Loving my cab just got my personal best last night!
Great Video! I own an original Donkey Kong myself. Usually the coin door has a Service button between the two coin mechs that will automatically give a credit when you push that button. Also whenever you plan on removing the Nintendo Side-art, there's a method I saw where people would use some hot air unit like a hair dryer to melt the glue for easier peeling off. Can't wait to see the finished product!
Thank you so much for the tip on the side-art! I hope I can use a heat gun to get it off without ruining the side of the cabinet. As far as the coin mech and service button, the harness was changed so I need to rewire it. That's why I wired up my hack just for testing before I clean everything up. Thanks so much for watching!!!
So glad you got a DK so now I can get some tips for mine! Never knew about a switching power supply. Thanks for the link! I appreciate your videos, live streams, and subs!
06:37 whoa-ho, we got a two barrel jumping badass over here! 😂💪🏽 Great video, Ralph, makes me want to get into the big boy arcade machines a bit! I dig the tech aspect of it all.
Hey Ralph another great video and man I wish I could work on video games like that man.. Looking forward to seeing the finished video game on the RetroRalph show.. Game On Bro 🕹🤘😎
Really nice work Ralph, it looks awesome and the cab looks sweet. By the way, thank you for the GUN4IR video, looks like Ray will hook me up next shipment, can’t wait.
Why is it every time you post an update video I pick up more cabinets Ralph!? LOL. You are a bad influence and I love it brother lol. Thanks for sharing. Always live watching you. Cab is looking incredible! ❤️
I'm currently restoring a donkey kong also. I got one that was converted to sky sharks from Craigslist for $100 + $50 for delivery ( my truck was broke down). I have gotten all parts but the pcb I need a 2 board and I keep seeing the 3 & 4 board ones. It luckily still had the ez20 monitor, they just used a converter for sky sharks. I thought I should mention this to prove the're still deals to be found. Not everyone is trying to get crazy prices for games. BTW I missed out on a donkey kong converted to the racing game that the roms are switched on the dk pcb a few months ago for $125
Awesome bud, I love working on the Nintendo cabinets! I find them the most fun to work on. Pricing for me lately has been hit and miss. Some great deals and some prices are still artificially high IMO. But prices are kinda crazy in the southwest in general. They seem to be coming down and leveling out more recently though. Anyhow, have fun with the restoration and thanks for watching!
I thought at first glance this was a Shady Jay video with him getting a DK machine restored for his barcade, but when I didnt see the stain laden cubs hat I realized it was someone elses video... LOL congrats on getting this machine back to cherry mint condition.
Heard that typical restoration of pre-JAMMA arcade games is that they replaced all the internals with everything JAMMA, and used a JAMMA adapter for the PCB board...
donkey kong is looking good.to me its ok to swap out power supplies for a switching power supply just read up on original pole positions & how they were a royal pain to keep running most of those problems were the power supply
The classic of classics. Looking really good. I couldn't care less if you use switch or LED lights to make the cabinet last longer. It may not be original-original but all that matters is that the game plays like it used to.

Hey Ralph, stupid question but is the DK board difficult to work with cause it was originally a Radar Scope arcade cab converted for the US market? www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/134790/the_secret_history_of_donkey_kong.php?print=1
Hey Ralph, I have an arcade1up outrun sit down cab, do you have any interest in it? Played it once, haven't touched it since.. might be down for some sort of trading, or something.
Hey man, I appreciate that but I actually got rid of mine pretty soon after buying it. I truly appreciate the offer though man. Oh and thank you for watching the video!
Sometimes daily, I work from home so I take breaks between calls and will play for a little bit. Everything that’s in my house has been restored. Stuff in my garage is usually a work in progress.
@@RetroRalph I'm in the same boat as you. I work from home, garage full of games but I want to let go of mine at this time. I once had a desire to have a garage arcade for friends and family but I think that time has passed me by. I used to play for the ultra high, world records, at times too but the dedication that goes into that can be a bit much anymore, time wise.
@@whompmaster I understand that, I feel a little bummed when the family doesn’t participate. Playing along is fun but it’s not the same as playing with others. @@RetroRalph Well, I've taken on Stocks for the last 2 years but it's just so dangerous. I would say I still want to build a virtual pinball even if it's just 2 monitors laying on a table. LOL It's just so much cheaper than real pinball. Not the same, I get that, but thousands cheaper. Anyway, two things for you... what kind of scores are you getting in Baby Pac and are you shooting for a possible WR? Secondly, the scores I was getting were in Mario Bros. Single & mostly doubles. It was a LOT of time spent over the years continuing to learn new things but it was fun at the time. We would do live events and set WR's live too.
