Great to see an old mag Sportster. I restored a 1963 XLCH basket case in 1989/90 after I got out of the Navy. I sold it and bought a 1974 FLH Police Special that I still have today. It still has the foot activated siren on it.
My Sportster is 25yrs old and has 400,000 miles on her on the original engine except for the stater. Runs 200degs in Florida in the summer.Very reliable, lots of day trips now I am retired.Sees a lot of rain 🌧️☔ its Florida after all.
I think Ken was having second thoughts about saying he'd ride the side hack about halfway up the hill he unassed that quick when they got back on level ground

With half the luck you've got i'll atleast be able to make the engine fire to give me that morale boost. Again, such a stellar video from Matt & the WTT folks!
One of your best videos ever. These are the best of times and are the times memories are made of. The way you 2 were having so much fun you didn't care it was the hottest day of the year. And the way you were so eager and confident to get it started you made the simplest mistakes, WE ALL been there. Heck I believe I do it on a daily basis sometimes. Love the race history, can't imagine 500-800 miles off road on 1 of these! Dudes were real tough back then! Just an awesome video and thanks for sharing with us.
Years ago a friend of ours a great and trusted mechanic told us after so many years, I forget now but the rings would be history, even if it’s turning over smoothly they are shot. I would have never thought especially after 50 years an engine would start like that without completely rebuilding it. Maybe it’s time I make some room and drag out that 283 that’s been hidden away under the stairs for the last 30 years and see if I can get it running again. Unfortunately I no longer have the 63 SS, just one to many projects. I couldn’t get rid of the 283

In 2016 I crashed my 2003 Sportster 1200 , I messed myself up pretty bad and can't feel or use my right hand.i have acquired a72 iron head 1000 and plan to build a trike with a foot clutch , jockey shift and hydrologic rear brakes on the handlebar. It won't be a bike , but it for sure won't be a car. Wish me luck 🤞.
The first time I ever heard of the Jack Pine I was in Earl Buck's shop in the Detroit area. Wish I could have seen some of them but I was a few years too late for the old format. Keep the good stuff coming buddy.
😂 tow headed 4 eyes knows his Harleys. His oiled spark plugs were his ace it the hole on getting the exercise delivered to the kid. The side goal was getting everything pre-oiled before starting up.

Having run a handful of National enduros on a modern bike I can’t imagine doing 500 miles of trail on that. Absolutely amazing. That’s a piece of American history that should be preserved as is.

My 1st harley was an '08 sporty anniversary livery. One of my 1st rides i stopped for a bite and couldn't start it back up. Turns out i left it in 1st gear unintentionally. Now i check that as often as I can. Always the little things that get ya!
The Jack Pine enduro is still going on. Was about 50 miles this year. 100 year anniversary and the 97th running. A few runs were canceled for WW2 and covid
Just take my Money!. THAT is a Pac Northwest Woods Harley Racer,, with the Rokon Trailbreaker rear and the Warn boat winch!. Not much stretch steel on the sidecar. Keeps the mud weight down. A thinking mans bike, but mind your ankles!. Be careful with the old carbs and your beard. No Jay Leno's. You can't swat that out fast enough, in some places.. Can't wait to see what you drag home next. Thanks.
Again, it would've been more epic if u showed the whole journey in the acquisition of the said bike - from the swap meet back to WTT shop then all the way to reviving/restoring it.
What a cool bike, good thing u got so It dont get restored back to being original, great thats it just like they used, I got a 59 Matchless used for dirt racing that I bought for similar reasons? Its just as it left a race
That's really a cool old scooter I have a friend who rode the Jack Pine for 8 years on a highly modified 650 Triumph he even won a few times another friend has a 62 Sportsmen but I can't get him to part with it he flat tracked it when he was a younger man

I have a 1964 xlh my great grandfather bought it new slowly rebuilding it. Sat since the 80s in a garage and in 2009 it was put in a barn covered in hay.
My first Harley Davidson was a 1960 and it started hard in cold weather, they used to say you know how close to riding a sportster the rider was to getting it started was by how many clothes they were wearing 😂. The Linkert carburetor sucked and I ditched mine.
I was also introduced in 1957. That makes a feller 65. But you know what ima do when Im 66? Get my kicks! On a 1968 XLCH. The last true HD. Your supposed to kick a Sportster. And kno how to tune it good enuf 2 fire in a few kix. Then you're a real biker. Big bertha, now that's the real deal 2. Im the real deal. Yup. CU in the funny papers. Good video! I love this channel..hey if you ever feel charitable..I need help..❤I rode my whole life..was in a bike wreck in 08. I had my leg.tore off and reattached. I can't bend it enough o shift without highway pegs..I have a Honda grom clone with a 50 cc..it would be great with a 200 rebel engine but I dnt knkw hoe to do it..any suggestions would help..I was gna buy a 100th Aniversety sportster but the guy didn't wana sell it..wjen I got the cash he said he'd feel bad if I got hurt..so he wouldn't sell..I'm on a fixed income. So I'm glad it didn't work out.. Bikes are the only thing that makes me feel alive I can't walk well and can't run or even play drums anymore because of my leg..any suggestions..or if ypu see somthing that I could use let me know..its literally what I live for...if I was rich I could buy somthing but im not .id need a cool trike or highway shifters and pegs on a light bike like a sportster or even a grom benefit with suicide shift..I'm wild or was so ..but regular scooters are fun till someone sees you on it or when ypu have to pull over to let 19 cars go by. Sad😢
Man I’m so ready to take a ride up there and visit this museum that’s crazy how they run 500 miles on ruff terrain I can tell with u just going up a driveway that’s a back breaker lol

It's about time you got a Sportster for the museum. Correct if I'm wrong. There seems to be a lack of Sportsters at the museum, especially early ones.
We actually have a whole exhibit of sporsters at the museum with some particularly great examples.

A friend of mine has an old hard tail sportster chopper with little tiny springs for rear suspention..never seen another 1 like it.
